Kruphix, God of Horizons EDH

"The horizon is tantalizing in both its uncertainty and its potential."

Overview

A

This is my favorite EDH deck I own and have ever owned. G/U is my favorite color combination, ramp is one of my favorite things to do, I love drawing cards, and Kruphix is my favorite of the gods. I had been wanting to build this deck for awhile, and I've held onto it longer than I do to most of my EDH decks. This deck is pretty good at winning, but as someone who is primarily a Timmy, I try to close out games in ways that most decks typically don't, whether it be by milling all of my opponents out, or getting a million copies of Stormtide Leviathan, or gaining too much life off of Horizon Chimera. I normally don't make this big of a deal of my decklists on this website, but I love this deck so much that I enjoy being able to talk about and explain it so much. I hope you enjoy reading about it just as much as I enjoy it. :)

Card Selection Breakdown

A

I'm not going to go over every single card in the deck here, but I will be explaining some of the all-stars in the deck as well as some of the stranger cards I run.

  • Prophet of Kruphix - Nothing but value, especially when you have access to Kruphix, God of Horizons at basically all times. I try my best to make sure this guy shows up every game.

  • Stormtide Leviathan - Big beefy unblockable dude that often makes it so that he's the only attacker on board.

  • Steel Hellkite - Decent beater that doubles as both removal and often times a wincon if you have enough mana saved up.

  • Momir Vig, Simic Visionary - Tutor for days. When you have enough mana saved up, the value you can get off of this guy is insane.

  • Meletis Charlatan - Copying is always good. Helps kill someone if I'm dropping something like a Braingeyser, or can help me progress farther than everyone else if I'm casting Temporal Tresspass.

  • Horizon Chimera - This deck likes to draw lots of cards at once, so this guy adds some delicious life gain to that.

  • Progenitor Mimic - Clones are always great, especially when you keep getting more and more.

  • Mirari - Read Meletis Charlatan.

  • Dictate of Kruphix - A good political card due to its symmetry, and Kruphix helps me keep the extra draws. Also, added flavor bonus.

  • Future Sight - Underappreciated value machine, in my opinion. Sometimes my entire turn will just be me ripping things off the top for a few minutes.

  • Curse of the Swine - Excellent removal, especially with the mana this deck has at its disposal.

  • Genesis Wave - Easily one of my favorite cards of all time. The alternative "wincon" of this deck is to empty your deck with this card. Sure, you may lose the game afterwards, but it's the moral victory.

  • Recurring Insight - Another underrated card. In a multiplayer format, you can easily get 10 cards with this thing.

  • Magosi, the Waterveil - An awful card that I run as a pet card. The story behind it is one day I was trading with some other guys, saw this, though it was Minamo, School at Water's Edge, so I asked the card's owner how much it was. When he said it was under a dollar, I immediately traded for it without even reading it. I didn't realize that I had duped myself until later that night. This card hasn't really worked any wonders for me (in fact, more often than not I just screw myself over with it), but I still run it to this day because it's just a land slot and it has a silly story behind it.

Plans for the Future

A

I don't have a very large budget for building MTG decks, so I have to construct them very slowly and I don't get new pieces very often, especially since I have multiple EDH decks that I manage at a time. Here are cards that I plan on getting, as well as the cards that they will replace.
