You sit next to a campfire, the crackle of the bright flames mingle with the chirping of crickets and the howls of the wolves. You stare at the grizzled old man in front of you as the clouds shield the moonlight from the both of you. You feel a pulse in your body, a inner call. A howl within your soul. The old man stares you in the eye.

"So, you wish to learn the ways of lycanthorpy?" He asked, you nod nervously at the sound of his intimidating voice.

"I first heard the howl of the wolves not long ago. I was cast out of Hanweir because they feared I was a lycanthorpe." You say but then you finish your sentence in a hushed whisper, "A werewolf."

The old man laughed loudly a few times acting as though he were Santa Claus. Or whatever version of him existed on Innistrad. "Werewolves? You, young lad, must embrace the ways of the wild. Forget these shackles of civilization. Look at what they did to you: They banish you, forcing you to starve in the wild, and then what? They will hunt you."

A cold shiver ran down your spine at the last few words. You restrain the urge to gulp. The old man extended his hand. "The name's Ulrich, and I am here to teach you our ways."

PRIMER Show

"I was shunned by others as well. They saw me as weak. My powers useless in an ever-changing world. But, I still have hope. We werewolves will tear the nonbelievers and have them feel our primal wrath."

"Why you feel graced by my presence:" Show

-"You love wolves, dogs, werewolves (You get the idea)."

-"You want to have a lot of these checklists. I'm sure there are those clear sleeves that exist."

-"You want to attack and love it."

-"You can cope with all those triggers."

"Why you will be devoured in my presence:" Show

-"You are one of these so-called 'blue mages' who are just lazy and want to win their battles the idle way."

-"You want to win, eh? Sometimes, you got to lose."

-"You don't have fun being a werewolf. Don't mind if I Prey Upon you."

"Our army of lycanthorpes are from all different backgrounds: the poor, the criminals and the rich. Yet, we are united under one purpose: We are all kinfolk. One of our members, Arlinn Kord  , can bring a few allies from far off worlds to aid us in battle. She is the only one with a perfect transformation. Perhaps one day, you too will have such mastery over our blessing."

"Blessing?" You ask as you give Ulrich a confused look.

"Indeed, humans view lycanthropy as a curse. We see it as a blessing and we embrace it openly." Ulrich countered with glee as he continued.

"One thing to bear in mind, though, as that we must have the power to control our transformation. We are more powerful as werewolves but as humans, we suffer. I'm sure you will find a way to keep us tied in our lupine forms. Our plans are straightforward but that is also inherent in us werewolves. We also share such a strong bond with wolves that we follow each other as brothers and sisters."

After Ulrich finished his lengthy speech, he paused to catch his breath. You felt inspired. You recall what the humans did to you: You were bullied, you were beaten by your father and even shouted at by your mother. You felt a primal rage bubble within you. The anger seething like the crackling orange flame in front of you. Then, you see a new light from above. Moonlight. Ulrich was the first to feel his transformation. You begin to feel it as well.

"Don't hesitate! Embrace it! Join me and my pack, and together we will achieve great things!" Ulrich roared as his transformation was complete. You decide to embrace your blessing and howl up at the moon. The echo surged through the forest with your first transformation. Ulrich darted off into the nearby trees and you follow suit, eager for your first kill.

I hope you enjoyed this unique take on a primer as much as I did writing it. Also feel free to critique the story. I am a Creative-Writer-in-learning, so I welcome the feedback.
