Sliver Overlord, EDH - Manasurge

Commander / EDH

Ashrubel

The deck is designed towards the green color, and is based around mana-fixing, Mana-ramp, and Speed.

You may notice that there are only a small number of slivers in the deck overall. This is no accident. Drawing slivers in an opening hand is detrimental to Sliver Overlord, as they take up slots that could be filled with mana. Sliver Overlord is one of the few generals that allow you to tutor. He is the ONLY General that can allow you to tutor as an activated ability on the turn he is played. Others require some other effect such as damaging an opponent or ETB/CIP like effects.

The basic idea is to just set up a strong presence so quick, your opponent has no reply for it.

Basically, once you have sufficient mana (usually turn 5-7, drop overlord and pass. Next turn, leave your mana open, and pass to your opponent. they may try to kill your Overlord, Bounce him, Vindicate hime, etc... with 10 mana (which is easy to get with this deck by turn 7) you can, at instant speed, tutor Quick Sliver , tutor Crystalline Sliver , and cast both in response to a spell.

Then you can continue to drop slivers at instant speed. Gemhide Sliver makes this much easier.

Don't forget the stuff that lets you reduce activated ability cost: Heartstone, Training Grounds, etc.

Eventually you want instant speed sliver production and the ability to be immune to sac effects (with sliver tokens via Sliver Queen ) and immune to attacks in general via having superior forces.

Combo out at E.o.T. with Quick Sliver , Sliver Queen , Heart Sliver , and Gemhide Sliver. Price reductions need not apply, as you can just tap slivers to make more slivers. Just 10 slivers can make an addition 9 (10 tap to make 5, tap to make 2, tap to make 1, with 1 untapped to make one more, totaling 19 with one untapped.)

Since the deck revolves around singleton combo pieces, It uses a large amount of recursion to protect your ability to get your combo. There are numerous draw effects, and some answers for occasional threats. The deck's primary concept is not drawing threats or answers, but mana, so you can tutor up your threat.

Remember, Overlord says "Sliver Card" not "sliver creature" thus you can tutor up changeling spells as well. Crib Swap = instant speed, creature RFG cast from your deck. Beat that! For 7 or 8 mana you can mind-control at instant speed from your deck using Shields of Velis Vel , Blades of Velis Vel , and Wings of Velis Vel . Blades lets you grab two if mana allows, and Shields can ninja an entire opponent's battlefield.

The deck is designed to tutor an answer and cast it at instant speed, allowing you to shape your game and strategy around the board-state.

The deck basically plays itself as long as you know when to save mana, and when to tutor for answers.
