Isn't Wander in Death strictly better than Morbid Plunder ?

I see you added athreos, but with only a few other creatures to recur I feel like he might be under utilized. I mean he costs 3 mana so you want a good 3 manas worth of ability out of him. So over the course of the game if you have two creatures die and the opponent just pays life. You essentially used lightning bolt twice. That's not terrible but I don't think you're looking to bolt people twice. You're looking to control them a bit more and cause some suffering. Let's imagine the opposite. You have 2 creatures die and they let you bring both back to hand. That's basically Morbid Plunder which is not played because most people don't seem to find that effect worth 3 mana. Add in that your opponent gets to choose which ever option works best for them. Not great if you only proc him twice or even three times. You want to be abusing him when you play. You want things dying left and right on your field so that the opponent constantly has to make tough choices.

It's definitely time to update this deck. Once the opponent gets a few decent creatures out, this gets shut out too easily. It needs more ability to compete once the bigger stuff gets to the table. It's not fast enough to win before then. My thoughts:

Things to Remove:
- Vampire Lacerator - Most of the time, I just don't want this card.
- Some of my cards that bring stuff back:
----- Disentomb - Can bring any creature back, so maybe I'd add it back in if I had more stuff worth recovering.
----- Morbid Plunder - More expensive. Gets 2 back, but I'd rather have the slot for a mid-range creature, I think.
----- Unearth - This one is faster. Might be worth keeping, just to get a Vampire Nighthawk back.
----- Gravepurge - I see this as more useful as a sideboard card against sweepers or milling.
----- Animate Dead - Might keep for now. I played this in a recent game to get my Archfiend of Depravity back. Chose it over the Sengir Vampire in my son's graveyard. (They had killed each other in battle.) Situational but kind of fun.
- Guul Draz Vampire and Mogis's Marauder. I like them both, but one has to make room for additions somehow.

Things to Add:
- Removal. I need some removal to help open the path for my vampires, especially the smaller non-evasive ones. Some of the candidate cards I'd have to go acquire; some I have already.
----- I like taylors4's suggestion of Urge to Feed. It can kill a good range of things and can help buff my army.
----- Drain Life and Tragic Slip are also good.
- Blood Seeker and Pulse Tracker have proven to be good in play, so I think ektoe253's suggestion of 4 of each is spot on.
- Midnight Covenant has helped with the bigger-creature problem, but 2-of is too few at present. Larger creatures might be a better help there, though. Not sure. Combined with Gruesome Deformity against the right deck, it can be good. Against removal, that can get you three-for-oned, though.
- Good creatures, as have been suggested here, such as Gatekeeper of Malakir and Vampire Nocturnus.
- Splash Red for some vampires that can grow.
- Some sort of tutoring, when it's time to fetch out something nasty.

Clearly, that's more Adds than Removes, so I have some thinking to do. LOL.

Well that was helpful....

I was thinking of getting some tips similar to Recover, Morbid Plunder and the like.

I was not asking for an alternative multi use, part time affinity hate card.

Good suggestions all. My initial concept was to keep it mono-black, but I have been considering a splash of red as a possibility. I have a few cards I've been thinking of removing, so I could make room. In some cases, I'd have to aquire the new cards.

Some things I've considered removing:
Vampire Lacerator - Don't like the life loss. Silly, since it has 2 power, but still . . .
Disentomb - Bringing stuff back never seems to be a priority.
Morbid Plunder - Ditto.
Unearth - Ditto. This one is faster, but if I did want to bring something back, it would probably be one of the > 3 CMC creatures (or possibly Guul Draz Vampire, I guess).
Gravepurge - Ditto. See what I mean? Too many of this type of card included, even as one-ofs.
Animate Dead - Ditto, though this one can steal an opponent's dead creature.
The expensive creatures, Archfiend of Depravity and Sengir Vampire - This is supposed to be aggro, so I want to be wrapping up by the time these guys become castable. On the other hand though, if things bog down, these can help break through. Still, the suggested instants might be more effective by keeping things from bogging down in the first place.

Lands: Vault of the Archangel may be good here, as it can gain you life while also killing your opponent's creatures with deathtouch.

Instants: Dismember could be good for removal if needed. Tribute to Hunger is also good, and it's similar to Vault of the Archangel in that it gets rid of an opposing creature while also gaining you life.

Enchantments: Even in a Human deck like this one, other creature types are important, too. To get past most of your opponent's defenses, I would suggest Angelic Destiny. It gives any creature the subtype Angel, +4/+4, flying, and first strike all for the price of just 4 mana. Exquisite Blood + Sanguine Blood are very similar but sort of counteract each other.

Sorcery: Increasing Ambition could work if you don't find what you need, and Morbid Plunder could also work if some of your creatures are dying a little earlier than you'd like. :)

Planeswalkers: Elspeth Tirel could work in this deck. It has 4 loyalty for 5 mana, but it's abilities still pack a powerful punch.

Creatures: Blade Splicer is decent, I think, for this deck. A 1/1 for 3 that then also produces a 3/3 which gains first strike packs a pretty good punch with this deck. Mentor of the Meek works here as another Human and also lets you draw lots of cards for less powerful creatures you play. As long as you play lots of Humans each turn so you can trigger his flipped ability, Ravenous Demon  Flip seems like a good fit for this deck. Ravenous Demon  Flip also works well with Thraben Doomsayer, which can easily tap to produce a Human, which you can then sac to Ravenous Demon  Flip. Ajani's Pridemate works well as a sideboard card if you're somehow gaining lots of life. Royal Assassin is something I like to use, which gets rid of lots of opposing creatures so yours can swing in. Village Cannibals can gain counters through its fuel of your other Humans (and possibly your opponent's Humans) dying.

If I am rambling on in this comment, I apologize in advance. If you would like to take me up on my suggestions, I appreciate it. :)

Hmmmm.... Ok.

Well, for starters, 42 is a really high land count. EDH decks generally run between 32 and 40 lands. I'd suggest going 36 to 38 when in doubt. You should basically never run Temple of the False God. Howltooth Hollow will never activate in EDH. Ever. Run a basic plains over New Benalia.

Of your artifacts, the only ones I'd keep would be Orzhov Signet, Sol Ring, and Thought Vessel. Good rocks include Mind Stone, Everflowing Chalice, and Darksteel Ingot. Those are all super budget.

Aurora Eidolon is terrible. Faithful Squire requires you to jump though hoops for it to be decent. Nantuko Husk is super limited. Never run defenders in EDH. You want to be more proactive. That means Souls of the Faultless is a no no. Baleful Eidolon, Celestial Archon, Dreadbringer Lampads, Ghostblade Eidolon, Crawling Filth, He Who Hungers, and Moonlit Strider are not really good enough for EDH. Daxos's Torment and Genju of the Fens require you to jump through hoops. Quarantine Field, Seance, Beckon Apparition, Dawn to Dusk, Planar Outburst, Seize the Soul, Dark Dabbling, Gravepurge, Macabre Waltz, March of the Returned, Midnight Recovery, Morbid Plunder, Belfry Spirit, Doomed Traveler, Elgaud Inquisitor, Mausoleum Guard, and Sandsteppe Outcast all deserve to be cut.

Good cards that fit with your theme and your general:
