Jarad is countin' cards!

This is a classic Golgari graveyard deck with some interesting deck building choices. My commander is Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord, who wants to see creatures in the graveyard and see some real power on the board. This deck needs some help in certain departments, such as land choice, removal choice and overall balance. If you have a suggestion for a card or you see a card in the maybeboard that I definitely need to run, please let me know! Also tell me what you think of my deck and my choices, I would love to hear all input or how you run your golgari graveyard decks with Jarad.

Main strategy:

Alternative strategies:

Deckbuilding choices:

  • Creature cards > non-creature cards. I would rather run Viconia, Drow Apostate than Oversold Cemetery, not for strength but for synergy and flavor.
  • Have a maximum of 5 nonland noncreature cards with effects that are too good to pass up, such as Ripples of Undeath and Cemetery Tampering
  • Cards with multiple uses > cards with 1 use. This just makes for more interesting lines of play and makes the deck more synergistic.
  • Budget cards that get the job done > expensive cards that might be more efficient. I just don't want to spend 30 bucks on an Overlord of the Balemurk.
  • Avoid cards that care little about the graveyard, such as Wall of Blood and Daemogoth Titan.
  • Avoid tutors, if I can help it. I think tutors make decks a lot less interesting to play, as you can follow the same gameplan time and time again. Land tutors like Wight of the Reliquary are fine.

Example of a few cards that align with these deckbuilding choices:

Gameplan: Kagha, Shadow Archdruid, Seedship Broodtender and Nyx Weaver are creatures, puts creature cards in the graveyard, retrieve creature cards from graveyard, cost a few cents.

Ramp: Dawntreader Elk, Sakura-Tribe Elder and Diligent Farmhand are creatures, put themselves in the graveyard, give me permanent ramp, cost a few cents.

Removal: Shriekmaw, Foundation Breaker and Bone Shredder are creatures, deal with single target threats, put themselves in the graveyard, cost a few cents.

Known weaknesses:

  • Exile effects like Farewell or Bojuka Bog.
  • Opponents with aggro decks, as this deck takes some time to get going.
  • Card advantage is highly dependent on retrieving cards from the graveyard using cards like Six to cast them from the graveyard, Whisper, Blood Liturgist to put them straight onto the battlefield or Undertaker to return cards to my hand.
  • Milling myself out with cards like Mesmeric Orb or Out of the Tombs.

Please feel free to let me know what you think about this deck, how I could improve on it and what you think the weaknesses are that I missed. I would love to read your thoughts and opinions!
