beatyface (Xenagos EDH)

Commander / EDH Aggro Ramp RG (Gruul)

iammute

Xenagos beaters with focus on extra combat steps. I play in a blue heavy meta with a lot of targeted removal. This affects my card choices in the following ways -

  • I want to keep Xenagos as an enchantment so need to keep my devotion low (an indestructible enchantment is a lot harder than an indestructible creature). This means I run an artifacts and spells ramp package saving mana symbols for creatures. Somberwald Sage and Selvala, Heart of the Wilds are exceptions here for their ability to produce so much mana in the early and late game respectively. Frontier Siege is a pet card of mine and an all star in the deck. Adding GG EACH main phase is an incredible return on investment, especially when you start taking extra combat steps (which come with additional main phases)

  • I want my creatures to be hard to deal with. Xenagos is an all in strategy and nothing is worse than investing in a creature then having it removed. I run three hexproof creatures, Carnage Tyrant , Plated Crusher and Siege Behemoth , one indestructible creature Stonehoof Chieftain and one with protection from Swords to Plowshares and bounce, Akroma, Angel of Fury . On top of this I run a package of artifacts and enchantments that make it hard to interact with me on my turn. Dense Foliage protects my creatures from removal, City of Solitude protects my spells from other spells and Defense Grid and Price of Glory punish players that try. These effects are symmetrical but should help me more than me opponents.

  • I want my creatures to be big. COMING SOON

  • I want my creatures to connect. COMING SOON
