Maybeboard

This is my take on a mono-black reanimator deck with Kokusho, the Evening Star as the commander. I've had this deck put together for a while, but I'm finally putting it on paper to brainstorm and see about making some changes. Let me know what you think!

After recommendations, I'm going to make the following changes (pending gameplay testing):

  • Dusk Legion Zealot, + Phyrexian Arena: Rather straightforward, since Phyrexian Arena is just an enchantment version of DLZ; the goal here is to get repeated card draw with minimal resources, and Arena does just that.

  • Greed, + Ayara, First of Locthwain: Greed is a pretty simple but powerful card, and I actually quite like it in the deck, however, Ayara just does a ridiculous number of things. She synergizes with the rest of the deck quite well, especially another card I'll be putting in later; Bitterblossom becomes very useful with her in the deck, as I both gain the life back for making the token, and can use it to draw further cards. All-in-all, very happy with this choice on paper.

  • Bolas's Citadel, + K'rrik, son of Yawgmoth: Big haymakers. The deck has plenty of card advantage, so I'm looking to leverage my larger CMC slots for heavy hitters, and K'rrik is just that. He makes casting things like Ayara totally free since I'll gain that 6 life spent back quite easily. He counts as a rather large piece of ramp, and since he can gain me back life with Lifelink, I'm looking forward to how it will play out.

  • Beacon of Unrest, + Victimize: Quality, quality, quality. While there's a lot that can go wrong with Victimize, when it goes right, it immediately impacts the game - bringing back 2 creatures from the grave, for 2 mana less, is pretty great efficiency. I should always have sacrifice fodder available for the additional cost, so I'm interested to see how this plays out.

  • Thief of Blood, + Vindictive Lich: Speaking of sacrifice fodder, Vindictive Lich is perfect for the job, and happens to synergize quite well with some of the deck's outlets, such as Disciple of Bolas. Thief of Blood is very niche, but may make its way back into the deck if Superfriends become an issue again.

  • Sorin Markov, + Liliana, Dreadhorde General: This one is a little tough, but the fact that I hardly ever use Markov's "-" ability makes it easier. I don't really like to use it because of all of the salt it creates, so instead I'll use Liliana as a sort of Swiss Army Knife - I get card draw, tokens, and a sac outlet all in one package. If I ever get to ultimate her, the game is over too. A very good swap in my opinion, and hopefully my opponents agree.

  • Steel Hellkite, + Darksteel Ingot: While I'm a huge fan of Steel Hellkite, the deck desperately needs a lower mana curve, and SH is the thematic miss in that department. While great for clearing boards, it's mana-intensive, and so I think switching out for a bit of extra ramp is probably better in the long run.

With that, I've made 7 changes to the deck; I probably won't make any more until I get to do some testing. Cards I'm looking to add: Fleshbag Marauder, Massacre Wurm, and likely Necropotence once I'm able to pick one up. Further recommendations are always appreciated!
