The Big Re-Work

QuietSkillzz, 7 years ago

I've re-worked a good portion of the deck trying to make it more competitive. It's focusing more on control and combo than it does board presence. I've tweaked in some better counter spells and ways to win giant counter wars, I.E. flusterstorm, put in some more mana doublers and replaced some old ramp with some better ones. Put in Fascination as a good draw card as well as another way to win, milling someone's library with infinite mana. I'm still not sure whether the deck has a sufficient amount of mana ramp, but I'll have to play test it to found out. If it doesn't I included several good and cheap land search cards in the sideboard along with other cards that can be swapped in and out for small tweaking, such as whether or not the better counters is all it'll need for control or if it'll need more spot removal as well. Look forward to play-testing it's new power level and I'll make sure to update the deck on any small tweaks or card swaps it might need in the future. Enjoy!

Removed:

Hive Mind

Emeria, the Sky Ruin

Commit / Memory

Failure / Comply

Forced Fruition

Solemn Simulacrum

Unsubstantiate

Added:

Brainstorm

Mistveil Plains

Lavinia, Azorius Renegade

Rest in Peace

Mystic Remora

Ponder

Preordain

Note: With only Blue Sun's Zenith and Pull from Tomorrow as the only single target draw spell, Hive Mind no longer had a place in the deck, specially with it's high cmc cost, and the possible risk of the other players copying my counterspells meant to protect the combo.

Emeria was cut due to how slow it was, the deck is not pillowfort nor battle cruiser, there was never a time with 7+ plains to ever use it, switched out to Mistveil to see if it's better at protecting pieces in the GY, as this deck doesn't run a lot of permanents this card may also get cut.

Lavinia and rest in peace were both added due to a meta call, lots of GY decks currently, and couple Narset, Enlightened Master and Saheeli, the Giftedfoil decks trying to cheat out too many spells.

Other then that, a bit more early game, card advantage/selection with Brainstorm, Mystic Remora, Preordain and Ponder.

Might reconsider Promise of Power, was a tossup between that and Snuff Out.

Removed almost all the cards that were "draw X, keep X discard the rest". Too often I ended up discarding wincons.

Deck update

Ripwater, 7 years ago

The never ending tweaking of the deck. The last few weeks I found myself too often flooded in swamps and not enough plains to cast my things. So today I finally sad down with a good friend of mine for a second opinion on my mana base. Quickly we came to the conclusion that I play a lot of double white spells and not enough white mana to support it. Also the amount of black I use is far less than I thought. Therefor the following changes have been made.

-1 Cabal Coffers

-2 Swamp

+1 Mana Confluence

+2 Plains

The Swamp to Plains swap is quite easily explained. I need more white. But why cut Cabal Coffers? Often it was more in the way then it actually did something for me. I need Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth to make it work and now with even more Swamps being cut there is no reason for me to keep playing it. Urborg is still there just for the fixing of my mana.

Mana Confluence is something I doubted long, but City of Brass does a lot of work for me, so why not Mana Confluence as well. Since life is a resource in our deck, we might as well use it for mana fixing.

For now well see how the deck performs with mana, if it is good enough, then Chromatic Lantern might be cut again as well

Deck Direction Change

YawgsAgenda510, 7 years ago

At some point in 2018 and early 2019 I changed the direction of this deck to focus more on the lifegain/bleeder aspect as a win condition and move away from the tokens aspect. After the printing of the new Teysa in Ravnica Allegiance, this approach was validated as there really are (at least) 2 separate decks here - the tokens deck should be led by Teysa Orzhov Scion or Teysa Karlov - and that's now a separate deck from what this Teysa, Envoy of Ghosts deck is trying to do - which is nullify the attack step and then win with a big coffers-powered drain spell. The changes to the deck I will post in March 2019 reflect this refocus of the deck from a tokens approach to a Coffers/LifeDrain approach. Thoughts and comments welcome and thanks for your interest.

Started reupdating the description to be more complete and keep up with the decks current list. Also replaced mortuary mire with Memorial to Foly (objectively more playable) and Avatar of Woe with Nirkana Revenant.

Sifting Through the Maybes

Nemesis, 7 years ago

This will be the first real update the deck has gotten. The cuts:

the additions:

Now the suspect list:

Sapphire Medallion: reduces the cost of most of my deck, but doesn't fit into any combos.

Docent of Perfection: fun wizard generation, not sure if it fits the deck's combo theme.

Information Dealer: I don't know how often I'll have a board big enough to make him worth it and not just already be winning. win-more?

Ponder: amazing card. it's a sorcery though and that kind of sucks.

Swiftfoot Boots/Lightning Greaves: both are great at protecting azami, though the haste factor isn't very important with her. Most of the time she lands, I win on the spot.

The power of trading with friends

GarrettTheGreat, 7 years ago

I upgraded the deck with a couple of goyf, and added in the cheapest fetchland that still works reasonably well. I've noticed the deck can definitely run out of steam quickly if I can't stick a tireless tracker. Other than that I have been loving this deck.
