Kavu Predator Discussion

roboticizer on Robert Smith's Revenge

Basic combo is as follows.

Play cards with alternative costs of opponents gain life, then convert that to damage through either False Cure and/or Kavu Predator and Berserk

Elvish Spirit Guide and Lotus Petal allow for first turn drops of Putrid Leech and Kavu Predator.

Quirion Ranger serves as a way to help with low land count, acts as a beater if need be and helps keep other beaters untapped after combat for defense.

Saw the update, i'll make a few more comments. As you request I won't hold back and put out everything that comes to mind. Do know though that I think it's a decent start, especially if you are making this with what cards you already have. I'll point out all the POTENTIAL shortcomings, these might not always be relevant or something easy to fix. I am not tying to be harsh, again good job.

Deck strikes me as having the possibility of being inconsistent as most of the cards are either 1 ofs or 2 ofs. The more of any given card you have, the more likely you are to draw that card. Having one ugin means you won't see it that often. It's also important to have multiple copies of manadorks as you want to have them in play as soon as possible.

Decimator Web: cool card, but way too slow unless you want to build around it.

Druid of the Cowl/Wirewood Elf: 1 mana cost accelerants are good. After that unless they can produce multiple mana i'm not a huge fan. I would replace these with other mana accelerants when you can.

20 land strikes me as a bit low. Generally speaking in a 20 land deck you would have significantly more mana accelerants than you have currently or have your highest spell cost 4ish mana. I'd add some more lands

Lost Legacy is more of a sideboard card. Even then you have better options to deal with 1 particular card.

From Under the Floorboards without ways to madness it, this is questionable

Without instans or flash cards Seedborn Muse loses value

Mire Boa you already have enough cheap blockers this can be cut.

Kavu Predator without your opponents gaining life this is ok but not great.

I think you need some card draw to round this deck out

any thoughts on Lorescale Coatl?thinking of creatures to add to your early game, possibly Steel Wall? 4 toughness could evolve some guys and hold off some early attackers.

other options include:Aquastrand Spider, Bond Beetle, Chronomaton, Clockwork Beetle, Cosi's Trickster, Experiment One, Kavu Predator (SB), Mistcutter Hydra (SB), Mold Adder (SB), Nurturer Initiate, Primordial Hydra, Protean Hydra, Quirion Dryad, Scavenging Ooze (SB or Main), Shape Stealer (super goofy with +1/+1 counters), Slitherhead, Vastwood Hydra, Vinelasher Kudzu

if you decide to go down the "hydra" road, i would recommend Gyre Sage for added mana production/sink value.

Angry_Potatoes. Yeah Vorapede and Sakura-Tribe Elder all need to go home!...

Like this suggestions. Particularly Kavu Predator (there's a lot of lifegain in my meta) and the Stromkirk Occultist.

carpecanum like the dragon throne.

Feels like we may need a bit more ramp etc. May need to make some tweaks

Kavu Predator can REALLY punish decks revolving around life gain like Oloro, Karlov, Ayli etc.

Stromkirk Occultist and/or Prophetic Flamespeaker can do well as card advantage engines.

Grove Rumbler, surprisingly, could really smash some faces in as a 7/7 trampler after landfall.

DaringApprentice on Vorel commander

Nice deck, Vorel is pretty sweet! If you want, feel free to check out my Vorel deck, The Thirteenth Year.

Some suggestions for mana ramping would be Rushwood Grove, Saprazzan Cove, Saprazzan Skerry, Fertilid, and Realm Seekers.

Eternity Vessel, Triskelion, Thopter Squadron, and Simic Manipulator let you use counters for interesting effects.

To increase the number of counters you place on things, check out Illusionist's Bracers, Hardened Scales, Solidarity of Heroes, Forgotten Ancient, Bloodspore Thrinax, and Death's Presence.

I also would recommend Nature's Will over the Pygmy Hippo you currently have in the deck, since Nature's Will triggers if any of your creatures deal combat damage to a player.

I would recommend taking out Sturdy Hatchling, since you don't want to double the -1/-1 counters on it. Also, Private Research isn't useful, since the counters are put on the Aura, not on the creature, so Vorel can't double them.

I might also recommend omitting Simic Guildmage unless you have a lot more Auras in your deck, and you don't need Kavu Predator unless your play group has a lot of lifegain. Yisan Chord is a tricky card to use with Vorel, since you want to make sure you don't double his verse counters beyond the CMC of creatures in your deck. Since your highest CMC is 6, I'd recommend cutting him.

I also don't think Vigean Hydropon, Shambleshark, and Cloudfin Raptor are that useful for this deck.

Epochalyptik on Does Ezuri get the experiance ...

@DJSeras: Looking at the phrasing of the question, it seems as though OP is asking whether he/she would get an experience counter if he/she controlled Ezuri, Claw of Progress (whose ability triggers on power 2 or less ETB) and Kavu Predator (a creature that, in a vacuum, meets that requirement) enters the battlefield under various circumstances.

I don't think the question is asking if the number of experience counters that might be gained can be increased beyond normal.

Also, proliferate effects can modify the number of counters players have.

Link all cards in your question.
Ezuri, Claw of Progress

First, note that Ezuri, Claw of Progress does not get experience counters. The player, not the creature, gets the counters.

In this case, it doesn't matter. Ezuri's ability only triggers if the creature enters the battlefield with 2 or less power. Static abilities, such as that of Gaea's Anthem, apply as the creature enters, so Kavu Predator will enter as a 3/3. Replacement effects, such as that of Master Biomancer, apply before the creature enters, so Kavu Predator will enter as a whatever/whatever (still being larger than a 2/2).
