Kavu Predator Discussion

Power-towershell on I thought people liked gaining life

Wow! Thank you cdkime for playtesting the deck for me! Where did you test it out? And I thought about Kavu Predator when throwing the deck together but decided against it because I usually would only want them to gain life if I had Tainted Remedy out. Since Obzedat, Ghost Council isn't performing well I might swap him out with Luminarch Ascension or maybe another token generating card, and when making the deck originally I put Drana's Emissary in as a place holder because I couldn't really think of anything else that could be a good fit in this spot.

This was an incredibly fun deck to playtest--always nice to see something new.

I was a tad underwhelmed with Obzedat, Ghost Council--it found its mana cost a bit high for what you got. It generally sat around in my hand as I happily played other cards for the same cost. Drana's Emissary was also relatively low-impact in terms of its drain ability, but the cost was more manageable, and its evasive body proved helpful.

As for card suggestions: Kavu Predator might prove interesting. You never know when your Tainted Remedy might be removed (or, as it was in one of my playtests, hit with Meddling Mage). Always a good idea to have a backup plan.

I made the same mistake when I played the deck. My opponents didn't catch it either, so I basically just cheated everyone, including myself, until I figured it out.

Needless to say, I was pretty imbarressed.

But If you want to keep it relatively fast Kavu Predator can work as a replacement for Rain of Gore.

There is no way for you to get these two cards to work together, because they counter each other. Kavu Predator only works when you opponents gain life, and Tainted Remedy stops that from happening. This combo is impossible and never will work.

I tried Kavu Predator years ago. I tried to make use of the splice cost of Roar of Jukai to force the opponent to gain life. It gives him +7/+7 if the opponent blocked, and with his Trample, that can sting. But, it never worked too well because the cards were dead without the Kavu.

With Tainted Remedy, the Arcane plan might be worth revisiting. The arcane is especially powerful, since it's part of the cost of the spell; they couldn't even Disenchant in response to prevent the loss of life.

Sansblue Kavu Remedy is a deck I was inspired to build after watching SaffronOlive talk about the potential of Kavu Predator.

Modern players, how can I make Kavu Predator and Tainted Remedy good together?

Question: how does Kavu Predator buff? I mean, you can't control when your opponent gains life (Nature's Claim notwithstanding), and you probably don't want them to either.
