Does Ezuri get the experiance counters?

Asked by TheMountainLion 7 years ago

If I play a Kavu Predator for example and I have Gaea's Anthem or a Master Biomancer out, do I still get the experience counters?

Link all cards in your question.
Ezuri, Claw of Progress

First, note that Ezuri, Claw of Progress does not get experience counters. The player, not the creature, gets the counters.

In this case, it doesn't matter. Ezuri's ability only triggers if the creature enters the battlefield with 2 or less power. Static abilities, such as that of Gaea's Anthem, apply as the creature enters, so Kavu Predator will enter as a 3/3. Replacement effects, such as that of Master Biomancer, apply before the creature enters, so Kavu Predator will enter as a whatever/whatever (still being larger than a 2/2).

+1/+1 counters and experience counters are not the same thing. So effects such as the ones you described would have no influence.

Experience Counters are placed on the player and not on the game board or any cards/tokens. Most players I presume, along with myself, just use a 20-sided die to keep track of experience counters.

From what I understand no cards in the game would interact with how many experience counters a player gets, however, you could copy the triggers or effects that produce them with a card such as Strionic Resonator

I didn't mean it literally, I meant would Ezuri's ability trigger giving ME the experiance counters, or would the creatures already have a power greater then 2 by then?

@DJSeras: Looking at the phrasing of the question, it seems as though OP is asking whether he/she would get an experience counter if he/she controlled Ezuri, Claw of Progress (whose ability triggers on power 2 or less ETB) and Kavu Predator (a creature that, in a vacuum, meets that requirement) enters the battlefield under various circumstances.

I don't think the question is asking if the number of experience counters that might be gained can be increased beyond normal.

Also, proliferate effects can modify the number of counters players have.

@DJSeras - you said that you don't think anything can affect experience counters.

You are right in the sense that they, along with emblems and commanders, reside in the command zone. However, cards with the proliferate ability can manipulate the amount of experience counters one has. In fact, that is a very powerful engine, especially for Ezuri, Claw of Progress
