This deck focuses on getting significant value out of permanents with ETB effects and recurring them over and over again. Blinking, bouncing and pulling stuff from the graveyard and recasting.

Important concepts to understand:

  • This deck does NOT want phasing effects. Phasing out does not count as leaving and returning the battlefield so ETB effects will not trigger. Don't play that fancy new Guardian of Faith or Spectral Adversary as they really don't fit.
  • Some effects "blink" cards immediately (for example, Restoration Angel). This means there is a single trigger that exiles and then has the card enter again. This is the fastest way to get value and does cause other targeted spells on the stack to fizzle BUT it does not dodge wraths. Don't use this to save from a wrath effect!
  • Some effects "blink" cards in a delayed fashion where they don't come back until the next endstep (for example, Semester's End). This type of blink DOES dodge wraths. In some cases this type of blink actually makes sense to use on creatures you don't control if possible, as it removes them from being able to take part in combat for the turn.
  • Some effects "bounce" cards back to your hand (for example, Unsummon). This is the least efficient method of gaining ETB value as you then have to pay full price to recast. I generally avoid most of these effects as they aren't as valuable as the true blink effects.
  • A majority of cards that blink or bounce can only target creatures. Those that can target artifacts or even any permanent (like Teleportation Circle and Flickerwisp) are extra valuable as they let you reset and reuse things like Mana Vault or Detention Sphere.
  • This deck runs three cards that give a free blink at the beginning of your endstep and all are extremely valuable. You are hoping to draw and cast at least one per game of Soulherder, Teleportation Circle or Conjurer's Closet.
  • Panharmonicon is the real linchpin of the entire deck. It runs well without it but it gets ridiculous once you're doubling all triggers.
  • If making your own version of this deck, try to lean into effects on a stick. Many of the staple ramp, removal and card draw spells are replaced with creatures that have the same effect built in so you can recur them with blinks. This is one deck where you'll actually be casting Mulldrifter and not evoking!
  • Kor Cartographer, Oreskos Explorer and Endless Horizons were chosen specifically for the fact they can target PLAINS. Not basic lands or basic plains but any plains. This makes them able to grab things like Hallowed Fountain, Temple Garden or Radiant Grove.

Combos:

This deck is intended to have synergy and gain value through ETB but is not oriented around doing this indefinitely or combo'ing. With that in mind, there are a few combos that exist thanks to Deadeye Navigator. They are:

  • Deadeye Navigator + Peregrine Drake - You can bounce the drake to untap five lands, soulbond it with the navigator again when it enters, bounce for two and repeat. Every time you do this, you net three and can create infinite mana. This deck doesn't have much to do with infinite mana other than play out everything in hand but it's still powerful.
  • Deadeye Navigator + Lumbering Battlement + Restoration Angel OR Wispweaver Angel - As long as one of the angels are exiled under battlement, you can soulbond it with navigator and then start an infinite loop of exiling battlement and angel over and over. This in itself doesn't do much but if there are any additional cards that get exiled over and over by battlement as part of this process, their ETB/LTB triggers will go off as many times as you want. With something like Thragtusk you can gain infinite life and create infinite 3/3 beasts.
