Kumano, Master Yamabushi Burn Control

Commander / EDH Mono-Red

TheLupuss

This is my attempt at rebuilding a deck that I had disassembled for parts in the past. The purpose of the deck was to see if I could get a mono-red ping tribal deck to work in a fairly casual setting, and if a relatively obscure commander like Kumano could become a threat within a more reasonable budget. The previous iteration of this deck focussed almost entirely on pinger locks using deathtouch equipment but I found it lacked kill power and would sit around stopping anyone from casting creatures but not actually winning the game.

This iteration's primary wincon is stacking damage doublers and increasers Fiery Emancipation , Jaya, Venerated Firemage , Embermaw Hellion , Dictate of the Twin Gods , Gratuitous Violence , Torbran, Thane of Red Fell and Furnace of Rath to push Kumano ping damage to life total threatening levels and burn our opponents out. There are also pseudo-Doublers like Neko-Te , as well as Heartstone and Caged Sun to allow us double the activations and Grafted Exoskeleton to reduce the damage we need to do even further.

Alternative wincons include:

Creature locks with Goblin Sharpshooter + deathtouch equipment or Neko-Te , this can also work to a lesser extent with kumano or the other pingers included, Endbringer is my favourite alternative for this.

Sacrifice locks with Silverclad Ferocidons and pingers. Being able to ping this repeated at instant speed to sacrifice either a significant amount of or all my opponents boards. While this technically doesn't kill its pretty hard for opponents to come back from this when they have nothing on board (including lands).

Heartless Hidetsugu is one of the most threatening cards in the deck, and With Basilisk Collar we can gain ridiculous sums of life and completely offset Hidetsugu's damage to ourselves.

Godo, Bandit Warlord + Helm of the Host . Our main aim with Godo is to fetch up a deathtouch equipment or Equivalent and attach it to Kumano or our other pingers. But as uninspired as it is we can also win with Helm combo if we have the mana.

Fires of Invention is possibly the best card in the deck, allowing us to keep advancing our boardstate and keep all our mana up for Kumano activations.

Technically we can go infinite in another way, but the hoops to jump through make it highly unlikely. But Treasonous Ogre + Basilisk Collar + Kumano and enough damage increasers to make Kumano deal 6 per activation kills our opponents.

Overall this is definitely a more casual deck, but even in its previous iteration I found that It could be more of a threat than people often gave it credit for, and can punch above its weight if it has access to its core pieces.

I would be happy for any critique and advice on how to improve this list, there are obviously some cards I would include if budget wasn't a consideration. One of my main concerns is the amount of creatures I'm currently running seems a bit high, although I do like having some redundancy if Kumano is removed and have been struggling to find a lot of non-creature spells that advance my gameplan, apart from what I am already running, so any suggestions would be much appreciated.
