Sometimes you find inspiration in the strangest places, and thanks to a random episode of The Big Bang Theory and the first song by Footsteps on the Moon - Hammer and Whip (Thor & Dr. Jones), a Boros Archaeologist Voltron deck was born - but this is no one-trick pony. The newly minted Archaeologist Ardenn, Intrepid Archaeologist is a great start for a new take on an equipment-based deck, but trying to maximize efficiency and create some game-winning combos outside of a Voltron-specific plan in what has generally been an underpowered commander guild in Boros remains challenging. While Commander Legends certainly gave us several new options beyond Akiri as a logical Boros partner, Kediss, Emberclaw Familiar was the latest option that truly stood out. The deck can then look and feel like a speedy Boros Voltron concept capable of hitting all of our opponents at once, even if commander damage is only relevant to the opponent being attacked directly. That said, our initial Voltron plan of trying to drop an early Colossus Hammer, hopefully with double strike, can also play the spoiler for our opponents, drawing out removal responses early-game to clear the path for Aurelia, the Warleader, Godo, Bandit Warlord or Port Razer to generate infinite attacks with Helm of the Host.
