Jeska, Thrice Reborn

Legendary Planeswalker — Jeska

Jeska, Thrice Reborn enters the battlefield with a loyalty counter on it for each time you've cast a commander from the command zone this game.

0: Choose target creature. Until your next turn, if that creature would deal combat damage to one of your opponents, it deals triple that damage to that player instead.

-X: Jeska, Thrice Reborn deals X damage to each of up to three targets.

Jeska, Thrice Reborn can be your commander.

Partner (You can have two commanders if both have partner.)

you could run Jeska, Thrice Reborn to one-shot unprotected people with Inferno of the Star Mounts via commander damage as well as Umezawa's Jitte to both buff inferno fast and allow for repeatable use

Phyrexian Vindicator: Very color-heavy, but I think white deserves a Stuffy Doll variant more than red with its Brash Taunter

Ichormoon Gauntlet: Lets uncommons from WAR like Narset, Parter of Veils beef themselves up, as well as Jeska, Thrice Reborn with a blue-inclsive partner. Teferi, Master of Time can give your collective PWs four counters a turn! Maybe there's a planeswalker that can easily get high loyalty but don't have much to spend it on, synergizing with the "extra ultimate"? Obviously, since proliferate lets you put a counter on each of your PWs, this becomes much better in superfriends, but more general counters decks can probably use that triggered ability as well.

Tur on Challenging Maarika

I believe that you're committing too much to your theme. There are too many cards which do the same thing. You should cut down on the instant/sorcery fight cards to maybe 5-6 cards (that is ~10% of the deck):

I suggest choosing some from these cards: Bite Down, Bushwhack, Cartouche of Strength, Chandra's Ignition, Fall of the Hammer, Go for Blood, Master's Rebuke, Nature's Way, Prey Upon, Prizefight, Tail Swipe, Ulvenwald Tracker

In my opinion, the best ones are: Bushwhack, Cartouche of Strength, Chandra's Ignition, Nature's Way, Prey Upon, Prizefight, Tail Swipe

Fight on a stick should be considered: Gruul Ragebeast or Kogla, the Titan Ape

Deathtouch to this theme is nice, but you're going to be doing 7 damage upon each fight. It's unlikely a creature will survive that fight. Therefore, you can cut back on deathtouch, that is Archetype of Finality, Bow of Nylea, Vorpal Sword, and Falthis, Shadowcat Familiar. Basilisk Collar is still good because of the lifelink. Saryth, the Viper's Fang is still good because of hexproof.

Furthermore, I would cut cards which deal damage based on how much Maarika receives. It will mostly be 3-5 damage. Such as, Fiendlash.

Because the commander is Voltron it needs many keyword abilities: haste, trample, and hexproof should be your bread and butter (no shroud for this deck). Enchantments or equipment which yield those keyword abilities are great.

There are a few Voltron related cards which I would suggest: Fiery Emancipation, Jeska, Thrice Reborn, and Hatred can one shot an opponent.

I hope this helps!

I've been wanting to add Planeswalkers, but unfortunately with just 2 creatures at my disposal, these are not easy to protect. That being said, I did find two that are perfect for this deck. Three, actually.

As an honorary mention, Angrath, Captain of Chaos works for the deck. His text mentions the word "creature", he gives my Commanders menace which is hugely helpful, and yes there is a sword in the artwork. If you look at the Eternal in the background to the left, you see it wielding what appears to be the Khopesh. We can see the full sized artwork here. However, there is room for argument that his is not a stylized or angled Khopesh, and instead another weapon - the Mace-Axe, which can be seen depicted here, in two versions: #5 and #8. Because this leaves room for argument, Angrath won't be making the deck.

Someone who can make the cut and dramatically act as a wincon for the deck is Jeska, Thrice Reborn. Her 0 can cause an TKO. Suppose for example I am up against an opponent who is playing Golgari, and my Commander happens to have protection from black and green with either Sword of Feast and Famine as well as some other buffs. To land 21 damage, he or she needs a minimum power of 7. That is very easily done with this deck. So Jeska immediately becomes a wincon. (Also, her initial loyalty is equal to the number of times I've cast my Commander this game, and I happen to have two of them ;3)

Lastly, Ob Nixilis of the Black Oath fulfills the requirement of padding my boardstate with his 5/5 Demons with flying. Likewise, he also regains me approximately 3 life each turn, helping off-set the life I lose whenever I cast my spells. His full artwork can be seen here, showing that he is in fact holding a sword.

Lastly, there is powerful synergy between Nixilis and Jeska, because I can target his 5/5 Demon with flying and beat face for a respectable 15 damage if all else fails.

dlombart on Sengir and Kediss - Dark Privilege (v1.5)

What are your thoughts on The Ozolith, in combination with cards like Carrion Feeder and Juri, Master of the Revue? If Sengir would die, his counters would be stored on The Ozolith. Carrion Feeder is a free sac outlet, that gives himself counters, and Juri gains counter from sacrificing other cards. They both could boost counters a lot.

Also, Jeska, Thrice Reborn in the 99 would be a house for triple Sengir damage :-) And I believe that any card that gives him infect would probably one-shot the table, when Kediss is on the battlefield. But maybe that's a bit mean.

Anyway, I enjoyed reading your primer! Trying to make a comparable Sengir/Kediss deck myself, and was looking for some inspiration/help. And definitely found it here! Thank you.

Slayroth, I added Smuggler's Share on a whim as I saw a lot of potential in it. It can hit off of many EDH and High Powered EDH meta staples such as Sylvan Library, Rhystic Study, Fetchlands, and Esper Sentinel. However after some thinking on it I decided to swap in Smothering Tithe as it's strictly better.

I didn't have any games with Smuggler's Share yet as i've been piloting other decks primarily. What made me go ahead and cut Smuggler's Share was just playing a game where one player had Smothering Tithe on the field. Everyone paying the tax reminded me of good ol' Rhystic Study - that unique interaction between players where everyone pays the 2 because no one wants the already oppressive Tymna the Weaver + Jeska, Thrice Reborn deck to get even more gas. I'll run Smuggler's Share though, but only in my decks meant for less competitive metas.
