Edric, Spymaster of Trest with Dwayne Johnson

Commander / EDH* Budget Casual GU (Simic) Weenie

Ecep

A budget version of Edric, Spymaster of Trest designed to be used for casual kitchen play with just the mainboard. However, if you need the deck to be slightly more competitive, the sideboard can be swapped in without breaking the bank. The cards below are the cards I recommend replacing.

The following cards have been dispatched of and the space left behind is being put to good use. Most the cuts were made to make the deck faster and more efficient without spiking the price of the deck an unreasonable amount.

Creatures

All cuts to the creature department were made to make the deck faster. Cards like Wood Elves, Trygon, and even Dwayne Johnson simply cost too much for what they do in this style of deck.

Artifacts

As fun as the idea of Bident was, for both politics and the additional card draw, I can not remember a game where it had the significant impact on the game I thought it might. Furthermore, it's high CMC is fairly restrictive when we'd rather be casting creatures or storing counterspell mana.

Instants

The counters are where the changes to deck truly shine in my opinion. Cutting back the mana cost of our counter spells will allow us to play more aggresively on the board while needing less mana to react to board wipes. Of note is the removal of one of the major wincons in the deck, being Biomass Mutation. The main reason for removal was the lack of some form of evasion or trample attachment on the card and to clear the space in the deck for more board control.

Enchantments

I'm currently testing the waters on taking out this card.

Land

With the addition of Sol ring, I felt comfortable removing a land.
