Simple concept: self-mill, and use Kess to use whatever is milled to your advantage. the thing is, through milling yourself, not only do you uncover big spells that can turn the game around, but you also put in juicy targets for reanimation effects. of which there are 5 or so just in sorceries.early game is passed by playing cantrips and ramping a bit, not casting Kess until a plan starts to form in the graveyard. with cards like tome scour and memory sluice, cast them on yourself the first time to get some ammunition into your graveyard. Faithless looting and burning inquiry (although random) are fun. whenever you find yourself hold creature cards and are forced to discard something by choice, ditch the creature, since you'll end up spending less mana to cast it from the grave anyway.the main point of the creatures is to be as much of a Swiss-army knife as possible, to create advantage for yourself as well as to give opponents targets to kill that aren't kess so you can continue to reanimate them. when using riptide shapeshifter or a buried alive, search for creatures that you think will be most helpful to keep your opponents at bay based on either how well you know your opponents, or on the commander of the deck when playing against strangers. for example: is someone playing a Ghave deck that is going to sneeze out token creatures all day? then riptide for "dragon" to get Scourge of Kher Ridges out to burn the hoards down to cinders. drawing into all your mill factors? then get out consuming Aberration by naming "horror" to help the cause!landfall deck? Sire of stagnation is an "Eldrazi"! The list goes on, and even now, I am refining the creature base to be ever more efficient.as for spells, I included a variety of effects with redundancy to put a quick stop to whatever my opponents do to get around my creatures. anti artifact, discard, exile effects rather than destroy (we ARE going for efficiency here, and indestructible just does so much to stop destroy effects. minor mill effects to be cast from the grave for more ammunition or to get those last few cards off the top of a deck, larger mill effects such as mind grind and,my personal favorite, tunnel vision.the lone enchantment of metallurgic summonings speaks for itself in a deck that casts and re-casts spells all day long.artifacts ramp me out, but the MVP of this category is mesmeric orb. in a game against an Angry Omnath, Mesmeric orb milled out the library single-handedly. and of course, crucible of worlds is in here to make use out of the lands that are going into your own grave, and one or two artifact recursion abilities to get either of those back OR to steal your opponent's stuff from theirs!your opponents will get frustrated very quickly from all the minor mill, discard, creature destruction, and recursion from their own grave, and so Kess in this form quickly becomes the table's punching bag. but fear not, for will all your recasting abilities and general flexibility, you can play the political game too by getting rid of win-cons or by pretty much shutting down certain decks from erasing the other players. lots of love to spread around here! The way this deck is set up, there are hundreds of ways to mould it to your personal play style.I have a lot of fun with this deck, and have even adapted it to 1v1 by only replacing 14 cards (currently).I haven't seen other Kess decks quite like this yet, and hope that this one will help someone out.comments and critiques welcome!
