My Ingenuity. My Obsession. My Guild.

Wild experiments. Random explosions. Narcissistic vanity. You are in the presence of the master of the Izzet League, Niv-Mizzet. Be in awe, or be on fire; those are your options. He establishes his plans early in any encounter with a Planeswalker, but they can take a long time to play out. In the meantime, he ignites whatever displeases him, interferes with others who would disrupt his plans, and searches for the solution to a puzzle only he perceives.

Let's Talk Magic Show

I've taken to calling this my "I'm done losing" deck. After a rough day with bad luck in other decks or in the presence of decks superior to my others, I want this to be the deck I drop to give myself a better chance of redeeming myself before I go home. This deck has three overall objectives: pull off silly combos, draw lots of cards, and stay alive long enough to find its combos. Its combos are:

• Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind + Curiosity (also works with Ophidian Eye instead of Curiosity): Draw the deck
• Conjurer's Closet + Archaeomancer + Time Warp (also works with Izzet Chronarch instead of Archaeomancer): Infinite extra turns
• Isochron Scepter + Mystical Tutor + Beacon of Tomorrows: Infinite extra turns
• Turnabout + Reiterate + Fireball: Infinite damage
• Omniscience + Enter the Infinite: Draw the deck and cast anything
• Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind + Enter the Infinite: Draw the deck with burn equal to the number of cards in deck

Laboratory Maniac and a small draw spell like Brainstorm can finish the game when any of the "Draw the deck" combos happen successfully. The way to win through most of the infinite extra turn combos is by pulling off a win through Laboratory Maniac.

When this deck isn't pulling off a combo, it's trying to live long enough to pull off a combo or otherwise maximize the potential that Niv-Mizzet brings to the game. This deck is happiest with a huge hand, preferably with no maximum hand size as Niv-Mizzet's genius has no limits. Mess up your opponents' day now and then by casting counterspells and instants like Summary Dismissal and Cyclonic Rift, throw huge numbers of cards into your hand with Invoke the Firemind, Blue Sun's Zenith, and Arcanis the Omnipotent, and never forget to occasionally blow everything up with Blasphemous Act or Mizzium Mortars.

This deck also has a few cards that enhance the effects of its favorite tools. Goblin Electromancer and Seal of the Guildpact help reduce the cost of spells in this deck, and in the case of spells with in their cost, it just adds to the silliness. If Rhystic Study, Thought Reflection, Ring of Three Wishes, or Archmage Ascension hit board and they aren't answered, the deck will almost automatically go off. I've had a lot of experience with Keranos, and I can vouch for how well He complements Niv-Mizzet and how much more efficiently this deck runs with Him around; you get 2 damage to split along with some nice card advantage, or you'll get 4 damage to split 3-1. Since this deck is always trying to find the pieces of its wincons, Thassa and Saheeli Rai provide consistent access to scry. Since there's a perfectly reasonable possibility that Laboratory Maniac will wind up in the graveyard, hand refreshers like Time Reversal and Day's Undoing are also here (plus, they trigger Niv-Mizzet for 7 damage that can be split up). Lastly, Basilisk Collar seems like a weird inclusion at a glance, but giving Niv-Mizzet lifelink and deathtouch gives him unbelievable power because his little 1-damage pings now kill creatures. Dismiss into Dream seems similarly odd, but when Niv-Mizzet targets a creature with his pings while Dismiss into Dream is on the board, they commit suicide. It's a hilarious way for Gods to go away.

I would welcome suggestions for this deck. I'm looking for ideas for how to make the deck better at pulling off the types of combos it already has and even jankier ways to exploit Niv-Mizzet's triggered ability. Any other ideas you have that can help the deck run better in general are welcome as well, of course.
