My LGS has started doing Five-Oh EDH: build a deck with a budget of fifty dollars. Basic lands don't count as anything; final price is calculated using TCGplayer mid or market, but all must be the same. If cards in your deck spike in price, you are allowed to leave the deck as-is, as long as you do not change anything.

I'll be honest: I was thinking about a mono-black sacrifice deck for a while, but it didn't click until I pulled a Bontu masterpiece. She's not the most powerful sacrifice commander, but she is versatile and non-committal. She is not as obligated to punch people as Yahenni, is harder to remove than Ob Nixilis of the Black Oath, and more budget-friendly than Liliana, Heretical Healer. She's a master of none when it comes to mono-black, but that works to her advantage in a budget deck.

This deck is designed to grind out value over time, using sacrifice effects and slow drain (don't forget to sacrifice those myriad tokens!). There is an infinite combo in it (free sac outlet + Oathsworn Vampire + Bontu's Monument + Pitiless Plunderer), as well as various drain effects. You might also be able to mill an opponent with the Altar of Dementia and Undercity Informer; or you can mill yourself and try to get off a big Living Death. And don't forget to just plain old punch people with all your tokens and your menacing commander.

The deck has lots of avenues to victory, but in testing I may change things around to make it more focused: we'll see.
