First rule is...

Using Thantis, as well as other forced combat pieces for redundancy. Uphill Battle and Urabrask ensure opponent's creatures enter tapped, and the lack of blockers allows Virtus to take chunks of life, or for just good old-fashioned aggro. Thantis is a huge removal target, but the deck has enough Jund removal and aggro to run just fine without her. And when she does stick, it's a great time just eating people's commanders.
