Treasure Trove

Enchantment

(2)(Blue)(Blue): Draw a card.

So, Damping Sphere for six mana?

I like the idea, but this is way too expensive. Maybe make it ? Nothing on this really screams . If you want it to stay and more expensive, maybe give it an activated ability so its controller can do stuff without casting spells.

My first idea was to add Treasure Trove's ability, but this seems off. But how about some looting instead:

: Draw X cards, then discard X cards.

This way, you can abuse the slow-down the damping effect provides to shape a hand that's worth casting through the damping. And that seems like it would actually be worth five or six mana, as it a pretty cool control card.

GrammarYahtzee, many players have told me that, but creatures are also easier to cheat onto the battlefield and reanimate, and they can also attack and block, which gives them far greater flexibility and versatility than what non-creature permanents have. Also, both Azure Mage and Triskaidekaphile have more lenient costs for their activated abilities than what Treasure Trove has, which may not be a major issue in a mono-blue deck, but will definitely be useful in any multicolored deck.

Azure Mage does not in any way make Treasure Trove obsolete. an enchantment is much harder to remove than a 1 toughness creature.

The new card Triskaidekaphile from Innistrad: Midnight Hunt is very awesome, and I predict that it will be very popular when the set is released, as it provides three excellent abilities for only two mana, and I cannot help but wonder if that is simply too much for such a low cost. However, I do not think that that card shall be banned, because it is good, but not overpowered, at least not in my mind.

Therefore, I wonder if it shall become a new staple of the EDH format, because each of its abilities is potentially very useful for it. Research has shown that having no maximum hand size, despite not appearing to be an ability that is particularly valuable, is actually very much so, as seen by Reliquary Tower and Thought Vessel being among the most popular lands and artifacts for this format. Both mana sinks and methods for drawing cards are popular in any format, so a card that provides a mana sink that draws cards should see no shortage of play. Finally, while alternate win conditions are usually a niche in any format, the alternate win condition provided by this creature is very easy to achieve, almost too easy, in my mind, which should again make it popular. Even if Triskaidekaphile does not become a new staple in EDH, it certainly has rendered Azure Mage obsolete, which itself rendered Treasure Trove obsolete.

What does everyone else say about this? Will Triskaidekaphile become a new staple in EDH?

The way I see it this deck is mid-range control, does not have an explicit win-condition, and has 2 Plans.

Plan A: Kadena sticks, you get a flash enabler out like Vedalken Orrery , a bounce-to-hand effect like Temur Sabertooth , and keep most of your mana open for flipping, bouncing, and free-casting. In this way you control as you see fit, build your board state, but 2/2s will not be intimidating anyone.

Helpful cards: Erratic Portal , Cyclonic Rift , Crystal Shard , AEtherize , Displacement Wave , Capsize , Beast Whisperer , Soul of the Harvest , and Curse of the Swine .

Plan B: Kadena does not stick, you still have your flash enabler and bounce-to-hand effect, but now mana is tight and you need to keep controlling the board.

Helpful cards: Wilderness Reclamation , Unwind , Rewind , Awakening , Curse of Bounty , Dramatic Reversal , and Peregrine Drake .

In both Plans you will have extra mana, either for flipping morphs or casting and flipping morphs. But what if you do not need to do those things? Now you have potentially a lot of mana "going to waste." I would suggest adding in a few outlets where you can turn extra mana in card advantage, tokens, or something else you deem needed/relevant.

Helpfull cards: Treasure Trove , Tower of Fortunes , Erebos, God of the Dead , Book of Rass , Well of Knowledge , Customs Depot , Freyalise's Charm , Greed , Mind's Eye , Ant Queen , Spawnsire of Ulamog , and Deadeye Plunderers .

In all of these instances there has been an emphasis on drawing cards because without finding more morphs the game-plan gets derailed quickly either because opponent's know which you have or wipe the board before you can bounce them back to hand. As an alternate win-condition that complements drawing cards I would say to either try to mill yourself or opponent's out.

Helpful cards: Jace's Erasure , Psychic Corrosion , Sphinx's Tutelage , Jace's Erasure , Mesmeric Orb , Altar of the Brood , Jace, Wielder of Mysteries , Laboratory Maniac , Minds Aglow , Prosperity , Blue Sun's Zenith and Fascination .

Adding in a mini voltron package is not a bad idea too, where even just one of these could be fine.

Helpful cards: Diviner's Wand , Blackblade Reforged , Nightmare Lash , Lashwrithe , and even Buried Alive + Filth , Brawn , and Wonder .

Hello, I am also trying to make a deck with Raff Capashen, Ship's Mage Raff. So far I have been looking into some drawing options. I think instants that draw you cards are usually best suited to the playstile of the deck, kind of like Pull from Tomorrow , Sphinx's Revelation , Frantic Search and Catalog . You can cast them before your turn if your opponents did not make you cast anything or you can play them earlier in the game to improve your options.

I think that Urza’s Tome could be a better substitute than Treasure Trove since you can flash it in with Raff and it costs less to activate the effect. The only drawback is you have to tap it. Arcane Encyclopedia works pretty much the same way but costs more to play

Suns_Champion, You mean Fblthp? He’s in quite a few cards, the others being Statute of Denial and Unquestioned Authority.

Also, in the card Treasure Trove’s art, you can see Hanna, Ship's Navigator, Karn, Silver Golem, Touchstone, Null Rod, Thran Tome, and Skyshaper.
