Treasure Trove Discussion

Herbysmoke on Need advice on card draw ...

Here's my deck

I need advice on what card draw options I should add/replace to streamline my Raff Capashen deck. Bonus points if they can fit the theme to be flashed in with Raff as well. Currently ordering a Rhystic Study to add to the deck, and it already has Nezahal, Primal Tide as well, as well as Treasure Trove and Kefnet the Mindful, though I'm sure there may be better draw options than these. All advice welcome!

Two sets of cards for you. This first set is exactly what you asked for:

Azure Mage, Diviner's Wand, Prophet of Distortion, Sphinx of Magosi, Treasure Trove

This set is almost what you asked for and can work depending on what exactly you are doing:

Book of Rass, Carnage Altar, Compulsion, Mesmeric Trance, Mental Discipline, Skyscribing

Some of the cards here feel very underwhelming:

  • Arcane Adaptation only affects four of your creatures: the fish, the elemental, the king, and the spellskite. Doesn't seem worth it. Also, except for spellskite, those cards aren't outstanding. I'd try to replace them with good pirates, like Kari Zev, Skyship Raider or Adaptive Automaton, then replace the arcane adaptation with Revel in Riches.

  • Navigator's Ruin is only a good card if you plan to kill someone by milling them. If you don't kill them, then it didn't do much. Even if you mill like 50 cards with it, that's not enough for a win, and you might be filling their graveyard with good stuff they can re-use or re-animate. Milling their good cards is exactly as likely as milling their bad cards so that they draw right into their good cards. It's just not good. I'd swap it out for Walk the Plank

  • Trail of Evidence seems good 'cause clues are pretty solid, but you only have 12 instants/sorceries. It won't trigger often enough to justify it's spot in the deck. Try Treasure Trove instead.

Treasure Trove is all about what you want but also costs 4. This must be a sign that this is about the 'going rate' for the effect, and half price if you're discarding too.

You could use something clue related like Ongoing Investigation.

Excavation is cheap but has an annoying downside, but maybe not so bad if you're banking loads of mana and ramping into lands.

I'm doing something similar. Some cards I've added are War Tax for pirate flavor, and War Cadence to push pirates through. Curse of Opulence for flavor and mana ramp. Mass Mutiny (if only there was a piratey art) and Treasure Trove are some more flavor wins.

@BackalleyBard I rather use "just draw without consequences" cards like Treasure Trove and Coastal Piracy. :)

Love the deck +1. Got some flavor based ideas... Skysovereign, Consul Flagship, Gild, Treasure Trove, Treasure Cruise, Treasure Hunt, Treasure Keeper, Ghost Ship...not sure about that last one even though its a sweet looking ship...its not very good, lol. Happy gathering!
