AVERAGE CMC

This deck is clearly a mid-to-late game build. I say this because the Average CMC for this deck is nearly 5 with most of the dinosaurs costing more than 4 to cast (and much higher). There is as much Mana Ramp as we could possibly have. With that, the best Dinosaur to tutor for would be Hunting Velociraptor, allowing you to cast all of your dinosaurs and Commander for only 3 after dealing damage in a single turn. Once your Dinosaurs start doing what they do, it is going to be hard for even your competitive opponents to keep up.

With the "Prowl Effect" you can cast the Commander along with all of your other Dinosaurs for just if Urza's Incubator is on the table. Only paying One Mana per Dinosaur is a pretty strong position to be in.

THE COMMANDER

I chose Gishath, Sun's Avatar as my Commander… and here’s why!

As a result of dinosaur tribal being super limited with less than 200 creatures to choose form, whereas something like zombies have well over 600, picking out a tribal Commander was difficult. Because of this limitation you need to go with a multi-colored Commander to increase your tribal potential. Sadly, the highest number of colors you can go with on a Legendary Dinosaur is 3. Because of that, you are even more limited, having only 8 Commanders to consider. Blue and Black have almost no dinosaurs at all. Therefore, the only color combo worth considering is . There are only 3 Commanders to pick from because of this.

It came down to Gishath, Sun's Avatar, Zacama, Primal Calamity, and Pantlaza, Sun-Favored. I think that Pantlaza, Sun-Favored would have been cool, but sadly it says you can only use his ability once per turn. So, that is why I chose Gishath, Sun's Avatar. He can do way more simply by buffing up his power in a variety of ways while keeping the build 100% Dinosaur Tribal to maximize his potential. There is no point in having him as the Commander if you aren’t fully making the tribal commitment (in my opinion).

All the way or not at all. - Yes, there are great combos and synergies you could have here with other non-Dinosaurs. But, themes are more fun than winning while still winning.

This is definitely my most casual EDH deck. But I think you can understand why considering the high average CMC and card limitations. But hey, I gave it a shot and I'm super happy with the results. I've been wanting to do a dinosaur tribal build for a long time and this deck is great.

CONSIDERATIONS

I really like Decimate, but I am trying to find something just as effective with a lower CMC that doesn't give my opponents a leg up (free creatures, card draw, etc.). I am definitely open to suggestions. Better dinosaurs? Better anything?

COMPETITIVE METER

Personally, I don't think that the Competitive Meter really matters that much in a Multi-Player deck build on this site. It does for sure matter in a 1v1 build because pacing is much more important. This is true simply because Multi-Player allows for you to not be the target early game in many cases, allowing you to build a strong Mana Base while 1v1 does not. Don't get me wrong, I could totally have no idea what I'm talking about and be wrong. I didn't create how the Competitive Meter works on the site. I only say this for three reasons.

: I have several highly Competitive decks on Tapped-Out that are at 100% on the Meter, so I feel like I understand the Meter.

: This deck in multi-player, despite what the meter says, tends to smash hard regularly mid-to-late game.

: I have actually had the Competitive Meter drop significantly simply for custom sorting the cards and not based on what cards are displayed.

FINAL NOTE

  • Archived #1 Position: EDH Bracket 4 - 2025

  • Archived #1 Position: EDH Competitive - 2025

  • Archived #1 Position: EDH Creature Cheat - 2025

  • Archived #2 Position: On Site Overall - 2025

I am really excited about achieving these ranks with this build considering the High CMC and Card Limitations associated with this tribe. This deck is a little slow the first few turns, but once it hits, it hits hard.

THE END.
