Temple Altisaur

Creature — Dinosaur

If a source would deal damage to another Dinosaur you control, prevent all but 1 of that damage.

I think Temple Altisaur is useful to mitigate damage especially from Marauding Raptor and from combat, but I agree 4 copies might be too much. I don't see much point in using Fury for removal trading 2 cards for one, when I can just slap a Lightning Bolt for that role. I'll maybe replace 2 copies of Altisaur for 2 Raging Swordtooth to enable more enrage and offensive presence, but other than that I think the deck is good as it is overall

Right off the bat I want to say how cool this deck is! I really enjoy how the Dinos all synergize into a pretty solid strategy.

With that said, I have to agree with seshiro_of_the_orochi to remove Temple Altisaur. It really doesn't do much to alter the game state and doesn't do well in a fast format like Modern. I would cut all 4 of those and cut 2 of either Tremor or Seismic Shudder to replace with 2 Raging Swordtooth and 4 Fury. They both help to further your game plan and can act as removal, which this deck wouldn't mind having. All in all, cool idea.

Temple Altisaur is pretty defensive, and I think it isn't all that great in that field. Maybe consider Raging Swordtooth instead?

Hey five supporting budget cards I like a lot with Dinos are Shielded by Faith, Lightmine Field, Domri, Anarch of Bolas, Court of Bounty and Duelist's Heritage. All these cards have repeatable effects for no additional mana which I feel is important when you're playing and wanting to cast many high mana cost creatures especially 8 mana Gishath.

Shielded by Faith is protection from a lot of opponent's removal, combat damage, but also from damaging your own creature to trigger enrage. It can change creatures which is helpful to enchant a creature before Gishath and then attach to Gishath when he enters. Get Shielded on Temple Altisaur or Forerunner of the Empire.

Lightmine Field is to trigger enrage each time you attack. It also deter opponents from attacking you or each other with a lot of creatures. It's excellent with Temple Altisaur.

Domri, Anarch of Bolas does a lot, it's ramp, protection for Gishath/other Dinos from being countered and it can be creature removal/enrage enabler.

Court of Bounty can be repeatable draw with the monarch as well as repeatable cheat a Dino or land from your hand. It helps to get high mana cost Dinos out of your hand onto the battlefield to use your mana to cast ramp, other support or leave it open for instant interaction.

Duelist's Heritage is less mana for repeatable double strike effect for Gishath the turn it enters the battlefield. If you want to you can also give an opponent's creature when it attacks double strike.

lhetrick13 I have made a few more tweaks after playing some matches at my LGS! Bringing Star of Extinction to the table is just so fun. especially when my Temple Altisaur protects my creatures from extinction... Watching the rest of the board go up in flames, oh man it feels good!

Radiant_Draconis - Ya, I have only been doing MTGO for a few months but Ixalan is one of my favorite sets aswell. I just enjoy a lot of the cards and mechanics introduced in that set.

I will have to try out Temple Altisaur. Seems like there is potential there as that essentially makes the dinos indestructible. Given their bulk I would prefer hexproof but I will take it...thinking of running something like Shapers' Sanctuary to accommodate for the removal I expect to see via MTGO.

I will totally hit you up once I procure the last few pieces of the deck I have posted here. Would be fun to playtest it against another dino deck!

Glad some of my comments/suggestions have merit! When you start a game with Kinjalli's Caller in hand, things just go so much smoother I have found. I think you will enjoy that change but losing Savage Stomp is rough as that is such a good card for this deck!

lhetrick13 - it's a double flavour win for me, for the reason you've noted but also because the theme around Ixalan and the sun! It's just a really cool thematic win for me.

An interesting wincon with this deck is a swarm of tokens all being protected by Temple Altisaur, I had that win last night and was honestly surprised by how effectively it locked down my opponent. They were playing a nasty mono-green stompy deck and just couldn't get past my temple worshipping tokens!

I'm glad that you've taken inspiration from my deck, and I'm really grateful for all the feedback you've given me! If you ever want to 1v1 with dinosaurs, hit me up and we can shuffle up for a game on spelltable or MTGO.

lhetrick13 I've never had an issue with the raptors, Temple Altisaur is a great way to mitigate it. As for Heaven / Earth, I honestly just like the card... I wanted a sweeper and I liked the flavour it brings to the deck, it helps tell part of the story when I'm playing.
