In:
- Phyrexian Tower - This always belonged here now that we are all in on hulk.
- Wake the Dead - This is similar to another Necromancy, how was I not running this before is beyond me.
Out:
- Swamp
- Life / Death - We don't run razakats so it was the worst reanimation spell
More Changes from TO Playtesting
YawgsAgenda510, 7 years ago
Since updating the deck on tappedout.net to what the deck is in paper, I've been using the playtest feature to draw hands and play out games. These are the first set of changes I have in mind for the deck after playtesting a bunch (over 30) hands. Reminder that I generally stay away from tutors and standard legal cards in my Commander decks (with always a few exceptions). Ins:+1 Cabal Stronghold
+1 Fellwar Stone
+1 Everflowing Chalice
Not yet added but looking to come in...
(+1 Epicure of Blood
+1 Twilight Prophet
+1 Sanguine Sacrament
+1 Reverse the Sands)
-1 Westvale Abbey
-1 ... TBC ...

after some recommendations, I changed the path for the win condition. I cut out some fat and worked to make the deck more efficient. The path is now enter the infinite + omniscience and eventually get to approach of the second sun

Swapped Grisly Survivor for Horror of the Broken Lands. I have enough smaller creatures to play and need something a little more threatening in the late game and that can answer Gurmag Angler if I want to save some removal.
Added Read the Bones in place of Sign in Blood since it's a little easier on the mana requirements (not need two black) and allows me to filter a little bit with scry. I've also considered running Rhystic Study as my card draw instead of or in combination with Thorn of the Black Rose.
Still debating replacing my sideboard Dispel with Hydroblast to really lock down those red matchups and interact with cards like Curse of the Pierced Heart. Thinking about replacing my Duress and Divest with Psychotic Episode. It's a little more expensive but lets me target anything, prevent Delver flips if necessary, doesn't feed into cards that benefit from the graveyard by filling it, and had madness so it plays into the deck's synergies.
Love it

After playtesting this deck I really enjoy it. it starts out pretty slow. one game was a 1v1 against a yidris cascade deck. I was going to lose but in one turn I created 40 tokens and sac'ed them all for a victory with blood artist and phyrexian altar. the deck starts slow but can get out of hand really quickly.
Minor Updates v1.0.2

I have decided to cut the more niche cards that were proving to be dead weight in favor of more card advantage and consistency. With my recent paper additions of fast mana cards, I have decided to cut two lands from my manabase as well. ===accordion ===panel:Overview Bob and Arm Sore have made their way into the deck to expand my creature package while condensing my instant and sorcery packages as well. Dimir Charm and Shadow of Doubt were too narrow of a focus for my meta, so they had to be chopped.
I have opted to bring in Mystical Tutor because I don't know why it wasn't in the deck before. Carpet of Flowers has moved back in due to the recent increase in blue decks in my meta. I may be getting greedy with my manabase now, but I have decided to reduce my land count to 30 in order to slot these cards in now that I have played on paper with Mana Crypt and Mox Diamond.
Scroll Rack will be tested in the slot of Crucible of Worlds now that I have an expanded card advantage package. This decision is not finalized so I will not alter the changelog until I see how it plays.
Similar to Scroll Rack, Torpor Orb will also be moved in for testing and fill the slot of Scavenging Ooze. Scooze hasn't been putting in enough work from what I've seen so far. In the presence of commanders that abuse ETB triggers such as Brago and Marath, Torpor Orb may warrant a mainboard slot to hate on their combo pieces. This transition is not finalized as of right now. ===endpanel ===panel:Changelog ===code -1 Barren Moor, -1 Dimir Charm, -1 Island, -1 Shadow of Doubt
+1 Carpet of Flowers, +1 Dark Confidant, +1 Mystical Tutor, +1 Runic Armasaur ===endcode ===endpanel ===endaccordion

I haven't played in a long time, came back to a new LGS and played my deck here, didn't do terribly...Went 1-2, lost the 2nd match only because of poor playing and decisions on my own end or I could've won against bant spirits- I should have gone 2-1. The deck has an issue getting green mana for my Birds of Paradise

Ok, so I thought "What the heck" and purchased two packs of Iconic Masters on clearance at my local games store. Cos, you know, one isn't enough, what if you miss our on that one card that would instantly improve your deck right? I should've stopped at one! Upon opening, I find the second card is Doorkeeper, next is Search for Tomorrow, then a Star Compass. I get to the uncommons, and here is a Sultai Flayer. Hmm, working well so far. Then a Mana Drain... As I said, should've stopped at one pack... So I've made some changes to the deck, as well as adding more lands, I was getting stuck way too often on two or three by turn 8

Ended up going 2-1-1 at a tournament tonight. Lost to Inside Out first round. Went to time against Sultai Delver. Was able to do well against Tortured Existence and Familiars. Not easy wins, but I had enough interaction to make them work for it. With how long a lot of these games went, it really felt like Daze wasn't actually useful to protect my combo, especially since I have to untap with the creatures already in play, so I feel like something without an 'unless you pay' option would work better (Dispel?). I felt like I may be playing slightly too many lands, and I may not need as many Unsummon/Vapor Snag as I'm currently playing main board (I would rather include the full 8 Banishing Knack/Retraction Helix), and I may stick with Unsummon over Snag since I had to use the spell on my own creatures several times to remove Kirtar's Desire and the damage doesn't matter if I combo out. I'm not sure how I feel about my suite of cantrips. I accidentally put Serum Visions instead of Preordain in the deck, and while it worked, I feel like Preordain is likely better... but I may try and sneak a few Gush or Gitaxian Probe in.
