Playing around with the madness mechanic and discard. The idea is to get value from the discard using the madness mechanic to cheat mana costs on spells or the pump up creatures.

The Discard Engine

Use Olivia's Dragoon to get the engine up and running. Oblivion Crown is an alternative way to get the discard engine online and also pumps up a creature.

How does this deck win?

Use the discard engine to pump up creatures like Cunning Survivor and Grisly Survivor . Put an Oblivion Crown on either of those or Olivia's Dragoon . Pump those creatures up and swing for a lot. Olivia's Dragoon and Cunning Survivor have some kind of evasion which means we shouldn't get stumped by chump blockers. Thorn of the Black Rose should ensure that we always have cards to discard to get those buffs.

Removal and counters

Removal takes the form of Murderous Compulsion which is a two drop removal to let us destroy a tapped creature. It's a Sorcery but madness allows us to play it at instant speed. With the engine working Dark Withering is a better Doom Blade snd Psychotic Haze is a two drop sweeper for X/1 creatures. We have death touch in Thorn of the Black Rose and can use the madness mechanic to cast a Gorgon Recluse at instant speed to block and destroy a non-black creature. We also run 2x Chainer's Edict for dealing with Anglers or hex proof creatures.

In terms of counters (with the discard engine online), Circular Logic is a one drop soft counter, Just the Wind is a one drop creature bounce, Spell Pierce helps counter removal or win counter battles.

Sideboard

The sideboard has Brain Gorgers for when we need to be more aggro or when the opponent doesn't have many creatures and we want them to make tough choices. Another copy of Chainer's Edict for dealing with Bogles or other tough to remove threats. Choking Sands is for dealing with Tron and Affinity or putting pressure on multi-coloured decks. Dispel for dealing with counter heavy matchups. Divest for dealing with Affinity. Duress for getting rid of threats that we don't otherwise have good answers for (like enchantments).

Suggestions

Updates Add

Swapped Grisly Survivor for Horror of the Broken Lands. I have enough smaller creatures to play and need something a little more threatening in the late game and that can answer Gurmag Angler if I want to save some removal.

Added Read the Bones in place of Sign in Blood since it's a little easier on the mana requirements (not need two black) and allows me to filter a little bit with scry. I've also considered running Rhystic Study as my card draw instead of or in combination with Thorn of the Black Rose.

Still debating replacing my sideboard Dispel with Hydroblast to really lock down those red matchups and interact with cards like Curse of the Pierced Heart. Thinking about replacing my Duress and Divest with Psychotic Episode. It's a little more expensive but lets me target anything, prevent Delver flips if necessary, doesn't feed into cards that benefit from the graveyard by filling it, and had madness so it plays into the deck's synergies.
