Pharika, God of Affliction

Legendary Enchantment Creature — God

Indestructible

As long as your devotion to black and green is less than seven, Pharika isn't a creature.

BG: Exile target creature card from a graveyard. Its owner puts a 1/1 black and green snake enchantment creature token with deathtouch onto the battlefield.

Pharika, God of Affliction Discussion

Hey! I don't play EDH too much, used to have a Pharika, God of Affliction deck, but I do know a thing or two about old cards. Though you already have Alchemist's Refuge another option could be Winding Canyons , though the only change is the cost to activate and price tag, it will come in handy when you don't have the UG to pay for Refuge, or when you want to hold up some blue mana. Also being a stax deck, your opponents may have a weird urge to punch your face, so make it a bit more fun for them, enter Reality Twist , and Naked Singularity . Oh your playing blue? Try out green for a second.

Anyways good luck brewing, really awesome deck!

  • dbpunk; Ertai, the Corrupted looks wildly fun. I have a Sen Triplets deck on here that's all about resource denial, so I think I could build an Ertai deck and enjoy it.

  • griffstick; Queen Marchesa looks fun, but I have no idea how I would build around her. Mardu isn't really a strong color pattern for me. I'd have to see how other decks on here run her, but I think it could be fun with Mathas, Fiend Seeker . Then, while their creatures are getting bounty counters, I'm creating 1-shot kill creatures. That just sounds horrific, lol.

  • ZendikariWol; Of all the Commanders you have listed here, the only one's I've attempted were Grand Warlord Radha and Ruric Thar, the Unbowed . I have a finished Ruric Thar deck on here that is private, but I'm not sure if I enjoy it enough to buy. It's also pretty expensive. One thing I sort of struggle with in regards to Radha is figuring out what to dump the mana into. I feel like it should be the kind of deck you'd see a player like me use - Tokens + big stupid spells, but I can't for the life of me get an appropriate balance between giant finishers like Crater's Claws or Rolling Thunder and bases that produce enough tokens to make it matter. I say tokens because it gives you more mana if you swing with a bunch of 1/1s then if you swing with a few 4/4s. I'll have to look into the rest of your suggestions and check out builds.

  • smackjack; Marath, Will of the Wild kind of confuses me. It seems to me that this is a Commander you want to constantly die, so that you can bring it out bigger and bigger? Or alternatively, dedicate a huge portion of your deck to putting +1/+1 counters on it? Seems like it'd basically be just two things: Ramp & Counters. I think I could make that work, but I don't know how solid of a build it would be. I am a bit worried that there would run into the conflict of resource management. If I dedicate resources to ramp and counters, I lose defense. If I begin to add defense, ramp and counters drop and Marath becomes less effective. I'll have to see how other users better than myself build it, because right now I haven't the slightest clue.

  • Woiteck; I've attempted The Scorpion God before now I think twice. Thanks for your deck link. Your deck looks like it's really well streamlined, and I can see the mistakes I was making. I'll definitely look into it a bit more :)

  • Mj3913; Isperia the Inscrutable is pretty gross, lol. Looks fun though. :)

  • Boza; Hahaha I actually DO have a Shattergang Brothers deck :D It produces 19 different types of tokens, including the super rare Enchantment Creature tokens such as from Pharika, God of Affliction and Hammer of Purphoros . Right now my deck is priced at $1,130 - $1,177 on Card Kingdom :c lmao but once the new Theros set comes out, we should be getting more cards that can make Enchantment Tokens.

Fun fact: I made an EDH deck with Shattergang Brothers , and there is nearly zero Enchantment Tokens.

There may be one or two more, but these were the best options for the deck. So if we get more Enchantment Tokens, I'm 100% on board for this.

If you are wondering, the deck basically makes vast amounts of Artifact / Creature / Enchantment tokens and then I ramp into the activated abilities to blow up the boardstate.

It's slow, clunky, a huge mana sink, and it doesn't give me control over what they choose to sacrifice. It's been collecting dust on here for the past 11 months. If TED gives us Enchantment Tokens, or when we finally go back to Theros, I'll brush the cobwebs off and continue to work on it. Lol.

Deathtouch works wonderfully together with trample (you only need to asign 1 point of damage to the defender and trample the rest), so cards like Overrun would be a nice finisher in the deck. Revenge of the Hunted is a nice alternative/redundancy to Destined / Lead

Frist strike and deathtouch is also a broken combination: Glissa, the Traitor is absolutely badass because he already has the combo on herself and her triggered will help you retrieve some of your important artifacts. Equipments that give you first strike are also a good choice Chariot of Victory , Bladed Pinions , Sword of Vengeance ...

Hapatra, Vizier of Poisons and Pharika, God of Affliction create more deathtouchers. Hapatra may need some help to get through, but Pharika is pretty good on her own, your deck already has a lot of creatures, and it can be used also as graveyard hate if needed.

Acidic Slime , Liliana's Reaver , Gifted Aetherborn , Gonti, Lord of Luxury , Skullwinder , Vengeful Pharaoh and The Gitrog Monster are some other of my favourite deathtouchers.

My immediate thought with utilizing the Bros efficiently was to emphasize artifact creatures (ex. Goblin Replica ) and enchantment creatures (ex. Courser of Kruphix ) so you could always have options on what to sacrifice to answer a problem. You have the creature portion covered completely but I honestly cannot see you wanting to sacrifice any of your enchantments without also hurting yourself.

Most options to make expendable enchantment tokens are not great, like Pharika, God of Affliction , but some like Renowned Weaver could be viable because, again, it gives you options on what you want to sacrifice.

Bros' cost is also kind of expensive so ways to reduce it or generate more mana (you are in ) will allow multiple activations if need be. Heartstone and Thran Turbine come to mind to reduce their cost and Burnished Hart , Wild-Field Scarecrow , Solemn Simulacrum , Skittering Surveyor and Pilgrim's Eye are great early game to fix your mana while late-game you can sacrifice them to either ability.

You mentioned reanimation in the description so some more options are Animate Dead , Dance of the Dead , Phyrexian Delver , Oath of Ghouls , Palace Siege , Entreat the Dead , Feldon of the Third Path , Victimize , and Whisper, Blood Liturgist .

I would also consider other sacrifice options so in case you do not need to activate Bros you can still generate value via sacrificing your tokens or creatures. Altar's Reap and Costly Plunder for card advantage, Sidisi, Undead Vizier to tutor, Priest of Forgotten Gods for multi-value, etc.

You have the protective-footwear covered but I would consider adding Spider Umbra and Kaya's Ghostform so you can protect or sacrifice them if need be. Other personal favorites of mine are Undying Evil and Supernatural Stamina .

Looks nefariously "fun!"

The effect your replicating is Xathrid Slyblade , but unlike the Slyblade your creatures don't have any protection. Glissa, the Traitor also has both deathtouch and first strike, it even has a degree of synergy with your equipment. Ambush Viper has flash, so it can essentially function as a kill spell. Arena is a repeatable fight effect stapled to a land. The gods, Rhonas the Indomitable and Pharika, God of Affliction could be made for this deck, given it's themes...

Majestic Myriarch, isn't a new idea Cairn Wanderer , Soulflayer and Odric, Lunarch Marshal , but since none of your creatures have trample (sure they could Chariot of Victory but it costs 3 to cast and you only have 2) it can still be chump blocked by Lingering Souls in most cases. You could run Skinshifter , to provide trample or flying, alternatively use a cheap trampler like Charging Badger . Hope this helps, good luck brewing your deck.
