Ransack the Lab

Sorcery

Look at the top three cards of your library. Put one of them into your hand and the rest into your graveyard.

But what if I want to talk about Bruno, huh? What then?!

(Also, try Ransack the Lab.)

jakethewhale007 on Chainer, Dementia Master Big Mana and Reanimator

Looks like a fun list! I have a Chainer deck on my profile if you wanna check it out. I've been playing him for a few years now, but I'm still working out some of the pending changes to my list.

Card draw to consider: Night's Whisper is a second sign in blood, and worth running as efficient card draw. Ransack the Lab has also felt really good. Treacherous Blessing has been worth the life loss (almost) every time I play it. Syphon Mind is decent, too. I also am not a fan of Reliquary Tower because usually you want to be discarding down to hand size to drop reanimation targets in the GY. I'd look at Castle Locthwain or basic swamp in its place.

Removal: Defile , Dismember , Feed the Swarm , and Force of Despair are all great to think about. I'd run any of these over Murder and probably Doom Blade.

Sac Outlets: I'd cut Nantuko Husk and Phyrexian Ghoul, as their effects aren't that great while costing 3 cmc. At 3 cmc, I'd prefer Woe Strider and Yahenni, Undying Partisan .

Ramp: Dark Ritual is a classic and probably worth running. Myriad Landscape is slow, but generally has pleased me when I see it. Nirkana Revenant is another source of big B mana. Expensive to cast, but cheap if you are reanimating it. Expedition Map gets you Cabal Coffers or Urborg.

Finally, I'm not sure that Liliana, Untouched by Death is pulling her weight here. Hope that is helpful :)

hungry000 on Help wanted - Budget modern ball lightning

I think you could use some more ways to fill the graveyard. Magmatic Channeler is a great repeatable discard outlet that can dig for reanimation spells and also become a threat itself. Four Channelers and four removal spells like Bloodchief's Thirst or Burst Lightning would be a good way to fill out the last 8 cards of the deck.

I also recommend playing Merchant of the Vale over Cathartic Reunion . Cathartic is a powerful draw spell, but you only really need one Ball Lightning in the graveyard for Thunderkin Awakener , and being able to Haggle away a Lightning Skelemental on turn 1 into Thunderkin on turn 2 is really good.

Finally, four Fling and four Village Rites feels like too many. I'd cut two of each to play four Ransack the Lab , which is a really good enabler since it finds reanimation spells and pitches Ball Lightnings into the graveyard at the same time without needing to have a Ball in hand.

If you want, check out this budget 8-Ball deck I made: 8-Ball Elementals | Budget Battle Box. It features all of those cards I mentioned above and has a budget sideboard that you could use for reference in the future.

Noire_Samhain on Trans Rights (Alesha)

One thing I can recommend with Alesha- She wants things in the grave to bring back with her ability. For now, I'll keep things budget. Try Faithless Looting , Ransack the Lab , Cathartic Reunion , Thrill of Possibility , or Magus of the Wheel to get stuff there, possibly. Or even cards like Viscera Seer or Carrion Feeder to kill off creatures for a benefit to bring back later with some benefits for doing so. Plus, card draw is good. Even the most casual of decks that don't play a lot of cards each turn can end up having to rely on top-decking cards. And since she wants to attack, why not use a Rogue's Passage to let her get in unblocked?

Choosing a theme or two and sticking with it is always best, so you've got that going. One of the best things to do is play the deck, look at its shortcomings, and learn from there. +A plus choice of a Commander btw. One of my favorite characters in Magic.

TheVectornaut on Mono black sacrifice control deck

The biggest potential weakness I see in this deck is that there's a sort of "cost void" between your 1-drops and your big demons, and the biggest threats in the deck may not be the most mana efficient. For instance, I'd probably run Desecration Demon or Demon of Catastrophes in a sacrifice deck instead of Goremand . I imagine he's a pet card for you though, so maybe you could lean more into the reanimator angle to cheat him in quickly. Most modern versions seem to be running Goryo's Vengeance into Griselbrand and praetors still, but I tend to prefer the budget alternatives. Some additions to Blood for Bones and Gravewaker are repeated activation creatures like Hell's Caretaker and Whisper, Blood Liturgist . Unburial Rites is also fairly popular if you don't mind splashing white. For the discard, staples include Thoughtseize , Collective Brutality , Ransack the Lab , and Mind Rake . For sacrifice synergy, I think Smallpox and Sinister Concoction could be options too. I'm also a big fan of creatures that mill for this role such as Stitcher's Supplier (which helps to play the very useful Gravecrawler ) or the green Satyr Wayfinder and all its Mulch brethren. Reanimator lets you play other big threats too, some of which could be Razaketh, the Foulblooded , Eater of Hope , or Xathrid Demon to stick with the demon theme. Another card I see as being pretty expensive here is Soul Foundry . The aforementioned Hell's Caretaker can usually produce a similar result without the 1 mana tax every turn. Furthermore, the tokens it creates could interfere with Grim Haruspex , a card draw engine I usually prefer to Dark Prophecy (or maybe Harvester of Souls if I'm feeling spicy.) There is some downside in cutting noncreature permanents for their creature counterparts, so choose the option that is being hit by removal the least in your meta. If creature hate is a problem, maybe a Grave Pact or Dictate of Erebos could dissuade your opponents.

awesome idea - since pauper has become my favourite format i am always looking for some new and non-meta decks. i have to say this idea/combo is very nice and i will 100% make a deck with this one, thanks very much! Ransack the Lab fits perfect.

i think i personally will go more for a dimir or esper control deck, we'll see, that will focus to fetch and resolve this combo as soon as possible, but that is absolut gusto.
