Use self mill spells like Grisly Salvage or dredgers like Golgari Grave-Troll to fill the graveyard over the course of the early game. As the game progresses, Izoni provides an army in a can along with life gain and card advantage. This deck gets a lot worse when your graveyard is unavailable, but smart play and knowing when not to overextend and mill too much helps to alleviate this reliance. Just be wary of cards like Rest in Peace, learn to sniff out when someone is holding GY hate, and you should be fine.

Win the game in a number of ways. Beastmaster Ascension turns your 1/1s into 6/6s; Zulaport Cutthroat lets you win without the combat step; Carrion Feeder , Golgari Raiders , and Golgari Grave-Troll get big quickly; combine the aforementioned creatures with Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord to take huge chunks off opponents life totals.

This deck also can grind with the best of them in the late game. Whisper, Blood Liturgist gives you repeatable reanimation when combined with insects from Izoni. Eternal Witness and Golgari Findbroker interact well with Whisper, the Find half of Find / Finality , and also with The Eldest Reborn for repeatable edicts and discard over very long games. Molderhulk is a 2 mana 6/6 most of the time and it can recycle Memorial to Folly to run people out of removal. I wouldn't say any of these things are plan A, but it's always good to be able to grind. EDH games can run pretty long sometimes.

C&C very much welcomed.

This all started with a Golgari guild kit and $50 worth of cards from my collection. If you wanna know more about this budget adventure of sorts, check out my intro and first tournament report on Reddit here.

After an unexpected absence, I made it down to my LGS to jam some more games and wrote up another report. Changes are slight for now, just swapping the underwhelming Korozda Guildmage for more redundancy in the form of Poison-Tip Archer. We received $2 for our results this week, adding up to $2.44. Subtracting the $0.39 for our Archer leaves us with $2.05 to save for later. C&C still appreciated.

EDIT(5/2): Adding Kessig Cagebreakers over Regal Force. With our limited budget, World Shaper is just barely out of range, but should be able to add that after the next commander night. $1.65 in the bank after spending $0.40 on the Cagebreakers.
