After some playtests, Fling was not used once so it came out, as did Doubling Cube since I needed 7 mana available just to gain anything.

Decided to throw in Fleshbag Marauder and Devour Flesh for early game creature control and as a way to get Grave Pact to trigger later in the game.

Added Mikaeus, the Unhallowed as a way to get creatures back a little earlier than EOT from Lifeline and added Ooze Flux as a way to remove the +1/+1 counters from undying. Comboing those with Grave Pact and Butcher of Malakir will allow me to clear my opponent's board as much as I have the mana to pay into Ooze Flux

Added Corpse Connoisseur to allow me to get Anger, Brawn and/or Filth in the graveyard easily.

I had Vexing Devil in for the way it could have played with Lifeline, but never saw the 2 at the same time. Only saw Scion of the Wild when I had less than 3 creatures out so I wasn't getting any value out of it so both came out.

I've come to realize that as much as I love Mind Funeral, it isn't fast or efficient enough to justify keeping in the deck. I'm replacing it with more effective control cards, since at the core, the deck still performs effectively

Fun to play, but hit ot miss...

This did not perform particularly well at a casual event, 1-3, lost to a maze's end deck and some other agro. But did great against a slower Simic deck. I took out some low buff enchants from control (Pacifism,Oblivion Ring) and that helped buy some time to get the big guy big enough to be swinging for large trample and enough lifelink to survive early agro attacks. Fun to race up to that point against agro decks. Oath of the Ancient Wood is a little slow, since you have to play that first to get full use out of it, but when it works, it's pretty fun. Could swap that out for some more control (Bonds of Faith).

One more iteration and I can leave this deck alone (for now). I've not yet ordered the Damnation and I'm short 3 more Archive Trap but I think I can swap in an extra Staff of the Death Magus and Staff of the Mind Magus in the interim. Any other substitution suggestions until I can get the last of my sideboard in place?

Took out 3 Whispering Madness from Sideboard and replaced them with Crypt Incursion

lord_of_the_snakes, 10 years ago

first tournament with this deck, came 7/8 with 1 win 2 losses

round one, played a B/U/W control, got milled to death in both rounds, played enough counterspells to keep me from playing my Xenograft combo

round two, play a mono-green tribal elves, milled the elves to death in 2 rounds and got hit by Worldspine Wurm with 4 Forced Adaptation in one round, actually got my infinite mill combo

round three, played against Utron, and got Mindslaver locked, twice, almost got infinite mill, twice.

Some major changes are in the works. Stay tuned!

Hihi7, 10 years ago

So I'm going to take out the Searing Spear for Incinerate, definitely. But who to take out for Goblin Guide? I'm leaning towards Guttersnipe but I'm still undecided.

Also, Goblin Bushwhacker is a maybe, but I already have Goblin Chieftain. Kind of a negative synergy.

Match 2 update

DeckBuilder345, 10 years ago

lost 1-2. Game one i swept him he had mana issues. Game 2 he pulled out his bomb mythic and i couldn't do anything about it. Game 3 i was winning, and should have won but mtgo cheated me and didn't let me bring back my 5/4 trampler and game me a land instead. I screwed up a click on my removal spell that i boarded in and clicked a 4/6 instead of his 2/2. Plus he had an epic top deck to shut us down... epic i tell you epic only card in his deck that could have saved him and he drew it.. plus he gained 14 life that game i think All those mistakes plus probably end up costing us the game. Was pretty angry about it at the time. Sorry guys.

Match 2: 2-1 vs Deckbuilder345

Deco_y, 10 years ago

Game 1: We got mana screwed hard. We had all of our black cards in our hand and drew no black. Nothing we could do. He had some creatures and fatal fumes and we didn't see much.

Game 2: We had some balanced threats. He used 2(TWO!) Putrefies on Armored Wolf-Rider and Teysa. We ended up putting Unflinching Courage on a saruli gatekeeper and that gave us enough life until we droped Maze Glider and got through flying damage for win.

Game 3: The top deck. Oh my lord. Deckbuilder dropped a Blood Baron of Vizkopa and it ws kicking our ASS. We were 1 turn away from death until we top decked Krasis Incubation and dropped it on his Baron. We followed by clogging the field with multiple bounced sunspire gatekeepers and we managed to drop Teysa and the Maze Glider again to push through just enough damage. What. A. Game.

Kalonian Hydra takes over Krosan Wayfarer. Savage Summoning takes the place of Far Wanderings. Strionic Resonator will replace Deadeye Navigator or Peregrine Drake because I don't want this deck to become one of "those infinite combo" decks.

I'm thinking about Vastwood Hydra at the moment. Too many changes pending and still haven't tested.

First Update!

jpeloquin, 10 years ago

Played in a second modern tournament today. Did well against almost everyone other than a dredge deck. I was just mana screwed in both matches. Drew almost only land in the first, drew no land in the second. It was awful.

Decided to take Searing Blaze out. I was almost always sideboarding it out, since it requires my opponent have a creature and I have landfall to be effective. Replaced with some draw power: 2x Browbeat and 1x Reforge the Soul. Browbeat is an awesome addition. If they don't choose to take the damage, draw some damage. I love it.

Also swapped Grafdigger's Cage with Relic of Progenitus and added Flames of the Blood Hand to the sideboard to round it out. Life gain and recursion are my enemies that I must root out at all costs.

multiplayer mashup

Since I recently swapped out Precinct Captain for Silverblade Paladin My deck has been doing amazing. I played a 4 player game against Knight tribal, demon ramp/control, and an artifact deck, and cleaned up.

This was an extremely fun game to play.

turn 1: played a Temple Garden.

turn 2: played a Plains, and Mikaeus, the Lunarch for a 1/1 counter.

turn 3: played a Sunpetal Grove and Champion of Lambholt - tapped Mikaeus, the Lunarch for a 1/1 counter.

turn 4: played Crusader of Odric, and a Plains - removed a 1/1 counter from Mikaeus, the Lunarch and put one on each creature i control.

turn 5: played a Forest, and Increasing Devotion. - Champion of Lambholt is now an 8/8.

turn 6: played Silverblade Paladin soulbond with Champion of Lambholt, and played Rancor on Champion of Lambholt and attacked knight tribal for 11/9 doublestrike that he was not able to block for 22 damage. knight tribal is out of the game.

turn 7: i swing at demon ramp/control for 11/9 doublestrike removing him from the game.

  • artifact deck realizes he has to do something and attacks with everything - i block with my tokens and take a pile of damage.

turn 8 i play another Champion of Lambholt and attack artifacts with a 12/10 double strike and win. was pretty awesome
