Deco_y Illusion Lord

Brought to you by my parents!

My name is Ian, I'm 29 and I live in British Columbia. I'm a primarily Black player who once made an incredibly popular Blue deck you may have heard of before. I've dabbled in all colors though, so I don't necessarily only play those two. However, Red and Green are my least favorite colors.

I don't really track the meta or look up top deck lists. My realm is purely being a Johnny player who likes creating decks that have some synergy and that are fun to play.

I still kinda write articles for Tappedout, and if you have an idea for an article or have any questions about what I think you should do with a deck, don't be afraid to comment on my wall!

Hey, look at Sword-n-Shield Dinos. I edited it, let me know what you think and help me out with a sideboard will ya? Cheers

I finished building my Green-White Dino. Look at it and tell me what you think.

Heyo, left you a message on my wall. Is there a way I can DM on in tappedout?

Yeah. Feel free to gloss over my decks as I add them...if you think of anything that may be a good addition, shoot them my way.

My playgroups play a wide variety of styles so I don't have to be geared against 1 specific thing, so I try to keep them focused on what they do best, rather than what someone else is doing.
Versatility versus consistency.

Playing in a Seattle Grand Prix event in September??

Hey dude. Yeah, really have not been on tapped out much at all for....a long time.

Still play a lot, but pretty much just EDH now. My playgroup in Seattle switched to that format ages ago to allow everyone to keep using cards they owned rather than try to stick to standard and modern just seemed too pricey and similar to standard in feel.

I moved over by Idaho as well, so I only get to play EDH with my playgroup via google hangouts now with HD webcams. It's not the same as in-person but in a pinch I will take what I can get.

I popped on tapped out today because I have 16 EDH decks and I wanted to make some small tweaks here and there but I thought I should upload them first and take a look at their color base, and mana curves first before I break shit down.

Said on Sticky for M19?...

For the love of everything I have wanted to make a Heartless Summoning Modern Deck Work. Bah God Goreclaw May let me finally be able to do it.

Friendly reminder that any cards posted in text or pictures should only be for cards spoiled through official channels. It’ll save you grief in the future trust me haha.

Said on rogues...

Grafted Wargear is great to attach to those cheap unblockable dudes. It’s drawback basically doesn’t matter.

Also in this iteration, Tetsuko is borderline irrelevant. All your stuff is already either unblockable or hard to block. Triton Tactics is a great combat trick I have found and has saved me more times than I can count. Morsel Theft is great at getting that final damage in unexpectedly(and replaces itself). I have a rogue deck of my own and it’s incredibly fun, I’m glad to see more people playing it.

Said on Tempo Illusions...

As someone who has played illusions for a long time, I find that tempo illusions doesn’t work super well. Lord of the Unreal is always the first thing to go to removal and any good deck will have a way to deal with the targeting, such as a creature ability.

I will always say, to death, that Illusions are amazing as a secondary win-con for a deck with a powerful primary win-con, such as using Grand Architect with artifacts such as Wurmcoil Engine or Myr Superion. Those bigger threats tend to get the attention while your illusions get huge and then swing for a bunch of damage. Or if they target your illusions, you have a great backup plan that is separate, yet still synergizes. I personally feel this is the best way to play Illusions, but you should play how you like and build the deck to your liking.

Wow after playing this a few times it flows very well considering how unorthodox your mana curve is.

I don't believe that Detention Sphere and Tamiyo, Field Researcher are enough for a blue splash. For your purposes, you can easily replace Detention Sphere with Fiend Hunter for further Human synergy or a different exile card such as Oblivion Ring.

As for Tamiyo, Field Researcher, you could try Karn, Scion of Urza if you want a more immediate card draw 'Walker, or Huatli, Radiant Champion if you want to get really out of control with card draw.

Those two suggestions above wouldn't alter the deck beyond it's intention and remove any of my doubts about the mana base.

I would also remove Mikaeus, the Lunarch for another Sigil Captain. And of course, Doubling Season I believe should be at 2 copies to add another copy of Gather the Townsfolk.

Snivy sadly that doesn’t work :’(

I have tried so so so many different versions of Infect ever since scars came out. The best way I see it being made is U/G.

As others have said, the key to infect is speed. If your cards are not adding poison counters to your opponent, they shouldn’t really be in the deck IMO.

Just my two cents.

Hmm yeah i’ll change the deck around a bit to include Sower of Temptation. I completely forgot and capturing two creatures is amazing.

How's it coming along?

June 8, 2018 11:37 p.m.

seshiro_of_the_orochi Thanks for the heads up. Fixed.

June 6, 2018 12:30 p.m.

Weird I found the quote from multiple sites saying Buckminster. I’ll fix that when I get home and/or confirm it.

It took me quite some time to figure out deckbuilding. Very few people jump into it and find success immediately.

As you play more and more you’ll come to understand how different type of decks flow. I tend to make decks that aren’t super powerful but fun to play. I also tend to experiment like making an all Planeswalker deck or trying to make an artifact based infect deck.

Just find an idea you like, make a deck of 60, then hit ‘playtest’ and draw some hands and see how your draws turn out and go from there :)

FoofyDaWerewolf Take a look.

I specifically made it budget as to not be super expensive. It doesn't flow as well as I thought it would but I'll keep tinkering with it. But this is the kind of deck I'd be playing in standard if I picked Dinos.

June 5, 2018 2:18 a.m.

Haha it usually takes me 4-6 hours on gatherer before I'm ready to try playtesting a deck. Hopefully my decklist gives you an idea or two. Ultimately it's up to you to know what and how you want to play.

June 5, 2018 1:22 a.m.

To be fair, I haven't played Standard in what feels like forever.

Your mana curve, ideally, should look like a Flight of stairs going down. That's how it is for Modern anyways, and how it used to be back when I played Standard. It helps ensure that you hit your land drops and being able to play out your hand with more frequency.

June 5, 2018 1:04 a.m.

I'll do my version of the G/W Dinos and then invite you to it so you can see what a deck that I would make would look like as an example.

June 5, 2018 12:53 a.m.

True that. For the best decks, you gotta pony up. Oh, the eternal struggle of a magic player.

I took a look at all the Green/White creatures in Standard atm, and this is the list of creatures I would consider for a Dinosaur deck in these colors:

Imperial Lancer
Kinjalli's Caller
Priest of the Wakening Sun
Cherished Hatchling
Drover of the Mighty
Raptor Companion
Atzocan Seer
Deathgorge Scavenger
Kinjalli's Sunwing
Orazca Frillback
Ranging Raptors
Ravenous Daggertooth
Renegade Rallier
Rhonas the Indomitable
Territorial Hammerskull
Thrashing Brontodon
Knight of the Stampede
Ripjaw Raptor
Territorial Allosaurus
Crested Herdcaller
Snapping Sailback
Temple Altisaur
Trapjaw Tyrant
Carnage Tyrant
Goring Ceratops
Wakening Sun's Avatar
Zetalpa, Primal Dawn
Ghalta, Primal Hunger

I would consider maybe focusing on the lower CMC Dinos to populate the majority of the deck and have Wakening Sun's Avatar as a finisher. Your curve is a little wonky, and you'll want to smooth it out a tad.
