Zombies in Prom Dresses

Commander / EDH

Gathering4Magic

(FYI: The deck is named "Zombies in Prom Dresses" because my physical copy of this deck is sleeved in Pink Dragon Shield sleeves.)

The concept is simple: I built a Zombie Tribal deck with the Lichwalker (an undead planeswalker I created) in mind. I am currently crafting the backstory for the character, how he came to control Grimgrin, and what he is up to in the Multiverse (link will be posted as soon as it is done).

This deck is my absolute favorite EDH deck, and one I play far more than any of the other 5 I own. It is flavorful, powerful, yet not unbeatable. It is a simple concept deck (zombie tribal), yet I have so much fun playing it. Every card was included for a reason, though some are much more obvious than others.

From the Lichwalker himself:As a connoisseur of corpses, I have traveled the multiverse for millenia, collecting every variation of undead I can acquire. Of all my corpse collection, Grimgrin is my most cherished specimen. I was in such awe at such a ingenious and brilliantly crafted creation that I had to have him for myself. Sadly Geralf couldn't stand to separated from his favorite son, so I separated his head from his body and left him to rot in that ridiculous "laboratory" he called home. Now that I've adopted Grimgrin as my own, I have come to love him so much that I gave him the honorary title of "commander" of my undead legion, though really he is just a figurehead that inspires fear in the hearts of my enemies, and serves as a most useful weapon. Luckily for me, he is easily manipulated into doing what I want, and I don't have to force his hand often. Unfortunately, he has become especially cranky and lazy ever since being separated from his father. He doesn't like to do much of anything if I don't let him play with his "toys." The problem is, he tends to break everything he plays with, so I've acquired a number of special toys for him to play with, like Gravecrawler, Risen Executioner, and Reassembling Skeleton that are easily fixed. We also tend to visit both Unholy Grotto & Volrath's Stronghold a lot, as they have the best "toy"-repair shops in the multiverse! Fortunately, I can always call on my dear old friend Lord of the Undead, who has traveled with me for many centuries now, as he is especially versed in "toy-repair," and getting Grimgrin up and active when he is having a hard time on the killing floor. when all else fails, I can always bring in Ghoulcaller Gisa, or "Aunt GG" as Grimgrin likes to call her, who is especially versed in cheering her nephew up. She was so awed by my power when I slew her sibling that she decided to tag along. Not a sentimental one, but her skills at necromancy are quite potent, and, unlike her pathetic brother (whose only real accomplishment was the stitching of Grimgrin), can work on the fly and doesn't need a laboratory in which to work. She and I have had so much fun together that I think I may just let her keep her humanity for the time being. She seems to thrive best when working spontaneously, and I don't want to kill her creativity.
