Slobad, Goblin Tinkerer: Artifact Tokens B100 EDH

Commander / EDH Mono-Red

Slobad, Goblin Tinkerer

B100 EDH RULES:

Here follows the three comprehensive rules that define the format:

  • $100 Budget: The complete cost of the deck must be below $100 for the TCG Player Avg price. This is where the B100 comes from for those that are curious. This value is calculated on the left side of this page. The correct value is the lesser of the 2 values, as this is the price using the cheapest versions available. The cost of the general is included and basic lands do not add to the total cost.
  • Commander Cost Limit: The cost of the commander cannot exceed $10 utilizing the TCG Player Avg price. This is to avoid decks that abuse overly powerful commanders.
  • Additional Banlist: This is an optional list of cards that outclass other cards by such a large margin and generally don't add anything to the game in terms of interesting gameplay.

GENERAL STRATEGY:

Utilize cheap costed artifacts that replace themselves with a card along with efficient artifact token producers to create a massive board presence while controlling your opponents. The general provides protection for the majority of the cards in the deck and usually only loses half of your artifacts from board wipes such as Vandalblast, Akroma's Vengeance, etc. His 0 mana sacrifice ability also allows you to avoid having your artifacts exiled from the game to be possibly recovered later from the graveyard.

FEATURED CARD:

Chaos Moon is a card that doesn't fit into many deck builds because of the steep downsides of the card. However, since Slobad, Goblin Tinkerer is your general, you are able to sacrifice artifacts for free at will, mitigating the negative effects of the card. For the majority of time, you will have the ability to control whether or not the total number of permanents on the board is even or odd. Therefore, in response to the trigger at the beginning of each upkeep, you can sacrifice an artifact if needed to have the desired effect. Here are some things you can do with this card.

  • (ODD) produce 2x the amount of with your mountains; cards such as Caged Sun are quite expensive and take up a large portion of a deck's budget, so this is a strong alternative
  • (ODD) can give my red creatures +1/+1 allowing for a little more beef
  • (EVEN) cause opponents' basic or non-basic mountains to produce instead of
  • (EVEN) kill off an opposing forces 1/1 Goblin tokens or any other red creatures with 1 toughness

Powerful card that I have not personally seen on many Slobad, Goblin Tinkerer lists. I highly recommend using if on a budget. Lastly, use 2 d10's to keep track of the number of permanents to avoid having to do a recount every turn and it won't be too annoying for your opponents.

Ever think about adding Hangarback Walker? Or maybe Plague Myr and Myr Retriever?

I still haven't finished posting in the description what I have tried out before and what is being tested at the moment. As for the Myr Retriever, I am currently testing out Scrap Trawler in it's place. I think I might actually prefer the Retriever over the Trawler because of the lower mana cost and the fact that I can get high casting cost artifacts back easier, but haven't had a chance to test it out yet. I prefer Iron Myr over Plague Myr because of the it gives in case someone wipes the lands on the board, I still have some red mana access. The -1/-1 counters from infect are quite nice though, but still rather slow. I might have to check it out. As for the Hangarback Walker, I didn't even know this card existed and I am very interested in trying this out. I took out Myr Propagator to try out Golem Foundry because it seemed to cost a lot of mana and my deck actually has a decent amount of card draw. The Hangarback definitely seems like it deserves a run in the spot. Only bad thing is I don't have any add +1/+1 counter effects that I would use on artifact creatures and no proliferate. Still though, by itself...

You could also try Titan Forge? Was and old dumb card i use to play in standard same with Conversion Chamber and Surge Node not sure if you would be interested? Also yeah sorry did not notice/understand what 2DH meant or read the description lol. But for the Plague Myr I always find 2 mana ramp in a colour that has a tough time ramping is always a welcome inclusion, but thats just my thoughts. Maybe even add Fellwar Stone, Fire Diamond, Shrine of Burning Rage (trust me its a threat) and Treasonous Ogre if you wanna try different ramp. BTW that Chaos Moon is a sick card ive never even heard of!
