Modern Budget Casual GU (Simic) Midrange Mill

Cheap casual self-mill deck for fun that focuses on dumping creatures into your graveyard to play big stompers as early as turn 3.

I have always wanted to make a graveyard recursion deck, especially with the innistrad block cards and cool looking monsters. The usual path is to go Golgari and use dredge, but i dont feel comfortable with that strategy. So i went simic (i was lacking a simic deck) and it turned out to be a simpler and more consistent way of self milling. So this deck was born.

The millers:

Hedron Crab: Best T1 play. On turn 3, if you are lucky enough to mill all creatures (which is not that difficult), you can get a 6/6 <Boneyard Wurm, or a T3 10/10 Ghoultree.

With fetchlands, you can proc landfall twice, drastically increasing its utility.

Another non-budget option is to add 1x Oboro, Palace in the Clouds

In the late game, once you have stacked your GY, to avoid milling yourself to death or to stop dropping fatties to the GY, start milling the opponent.

Satyr Wayfinder: T2 play. Brings 4 cards to the GY and can net you a land. Use it to chump block, so it adds up to your body count.

The Beaters:

Boneyard Wurm: In this deck, it works as a Tarmogoyf most of the times. It is common to have it be a T3 4/4 that keeps growing as the game extends.

Splinterfright: T3 rockstar. A complete upgrade of the Boneyard Wurm. Has trample and a self-mill ability!

Ghoultree: With some crabs and satyrs on the board, you will usually play him T3-4 for 1 mana.

Skaab Ruinator: flying cheap fatty. Can be casted after death and even if milled. At first glance, its casting drawback might seem counterproductive, but with the huge amount of creatures and mill that this deck sports, it is barely noticeable.

The convenience of casting it depends on your hand and the state of the battlefield; if you have in play cards like Nemesis of Mortals or Ghoultree, cast it with no worries.

Splinterfright and Boneyard Wurm are more susceptible though, but the first one compensates a bit with its ability.

Finally, another strategy is to cast it early on T3 if you milled few creatures that wont give as much benefit early enough to the other creatures. Later, it will be easier to fill it.

Nemesis of Mortals usually enters the battlefield as a 5/5 for 2 green mana. Mid game is a 10/10 for 4 green mana.

Utility:

Artful Dodge to let your fatties swing freely. It can be casted from your GY even if you milled it, giving you a potencial 2 casts per card.

Mulldrifter: a Divination in the form of a creature. Provides us with some draw and ups the bodycount.

Sidisi's Faithful; To have some control. Cheap early game blocker that also gives us tempo with its abilty.

Wasteland Viper: T1 play. Use it to stall by discouraging your opponents from attacking you until you have ramped a little. You can also use its bloodrush ability to increase your GY bodycount while pumping one of your guys at the same time.

Eternal Witness: Use it to recover a fatty or a land that you unintentionally milled. When dead, it pumps your GY.

NO Vengevine. TOO EXPENSIVE.

EDIT: ADDED A COUPLE OFTracker's Instincts AND A Gnaw to the Bone. ALTHOUGH THEY ARE NONCREATURE SPELLS, THE FIRST ONE USUALLY COVERS ITS SLOT BY DUMPING MORE THAN ONE BODY. I INCLUDED IT BECAUSE SOMETIMES II WAS HAVING TROUBLE GETTING THE BEATERS TO MY HAND. NOW I HAVE MORE CONTROL OVER WHAT GOES TO THE GY.

Gnaw to the Bone as a one of is great. It usually gains me more than 20 life per cast.

HAVING BOTH FLASHBACK MEANS THAT THEY DONT GO TO WASTE WHEN MILLED.

Sideboard:

Plaxmanta: excellent against control. Cheap, gives shroud to all your creatures, and you can chose to send it directly to the graveyard to buff them.

Quickling: like Plaxmanta, except that is more oriented towards enchantments and boardwipes.

Reclamation Sage: against enchantments and artifacts.

Gnaw to the Bone against burn, aggro or long games.

Ground Seal to protect our graveyard. Without it, this deck is nothing. The inconvenient is that it renders Eternal Witness useless, so she should be swapped for this card when sideboarding.

Witchbane Orb: against mill, sacrifice , burn, and other shenannigans.

Tormod's Crypt: against graveyard strategies.

God hand:

T1: island, Hedron Crab

T2: forest, mill 3 creatures, play a Satyr Wayfinder, mill another 3-4 creatures. Chump block on the next turn to send it to the GY.

T3: play another land, mill 3. By now you should have more than 7 creatures in the GY. Play 2 Ghoultree for 2G

T4: cast Artful Dodge twice on your trees and swing for lethal.

I chose to use as few non creature cards as possible so they dont lose value when milled.

Lands like Hinterland Harbor and Breeding Pool are obvious upgrades if you have the money. Also, i think that Life from the Loam may fare well.

Hope you like it. If you do, please +1 so i can get more feedback. Thanks!
