Commander / EDH* Artifact Mono-White Multiplayer Voltron

Have you ever thought about how it would be like to win the game with a super armored and indestructible cat? if you find the idea funny, I suggest you take a look at Balan, Wandering Knight ! this magnificent cat was my attempt to approach the competitive world of commander in magic, however, keeping prices relatively low. how to make it more interesting? I set myself the goal of not playing the swords ( Sword of War and Peace , Sword of Fire and Ice and the other swords ) who make everything really too simple and expensive, but with the aim of making the deck strong and versatile also without them (you are however free to play them in this list, if you prefer). the result is one of the funniest decks I've ever played! Are you interested on how this deck works? below you can find a little primer on how play Balan, the purring swordmaster.

When I think at Commander, I think about a brave general, a fierce legendary dragon or an unmentionable demon that overwhelms his opponents with the brutal power of a legend. I think a voltron deck is great in reflecting this vision, focusing our deck's strategy primarily on our commander, to make it a real war machine. You might like play this deck if:
  • you prefer to overwhelm your opponents with the brute force of your commander effectively, taking advantage of our deck to make our commander really tough to eliminate
  • You are not comfortable with decks with too many colors
  • there is not complex stragety, really, perfect for new players too!
You may not like playing this deck if:
  • You like to play fast and aggro decks
  • You like the versatility to have more colors
  • You like play combo-centric decks
  • you don't like cats
Because she is simply fantastic as a commander of a voltron deck (and because she is a cat). Jokes aside, Balan, Wandering Knight has a relatively low mana cost, and offers us a 3/3 first strike, that already in itself is not bad at all. Not to mention that, in my opinion, white must be present in every deck that is based on equipmenst: perhaps this color will be a little lacking in draw cards, but it offers us several ways to look in our deck for what we need, when we need it, and a lot of removals and protections for our commander, essential in a voltron, if we don't want our expensive commander to be killed the next turn by an annoying spell. However, white offers many good commanders for a voltron deck, so why Balan? let's take a look to the potential choices:
  • Kemba, Kha Regent is a really nice card, that each of our turns generates a not inconsiderable number of tokens, I do not doubt that she is a fun commander, but there are higher power level cards.
  • Nazahn, Revered Bladesmith gives us the green, great to speed up the game, and he is a living equip tutor. No doubt he would be a great commander, but I prefer more aggressive creatures.
  • Nahiri, the Lithomancer a real rough diamond, before Balan came out, she was the commander of this deck. This planeswalker can provide us with free tokens, free equipments and, with its ultimate ability not too difficult to realize, a legendary equipment of all respect, however I found Balan faster and more deadly, so I decided to keep her inside the deck but with Balan as our commander.
So, what makes Balan so lethal? his ability: by paying a simple cost of 2 mana, Balan can equip all our weaponry on the battlefield at any time!her ability: by paying a simple cost of 2 mana, Balan can equip all our equipments on the battlefield on her at any time! this means that we can use powerful artifacts without having to worry about the high cost of equipment (really, spending 10 mana to equip our commander and then seeing her destroyed the next turn is terribly frustrating). This effect will greatly facilitate our lives, allowing our commander to attack our opponents as soon as possible with equipment that would otherwise have required at least one extra turn to be used. Cards like Puresteel Paladin already allowed us to equip our weapons for free, but having no tutors available, we could not risk relying solely on a couple of creatures in a deck of 100 cards.
coming soon.
