The meta I built this deck for starts with 4 lands in play tapped (ergo the somewhat high average CMC) and has a penchant for sweepers, so each creature has to have a big impact. Riku's generally the general, but Animar and Maelstrom Wanderer allow for more strategic options depending on who shows up each time we play.
