Ok guys. I'm not sure how many of you are Bleach fans out there, but I need your help putting together the most flavorful EDH deck possible using the Bleach anime/manga series as guidance. My initial idea is to have a card for each of the original/iconic Captains of Soul Society and, if extra ambitious, a card to represent their Zanpakuto. Here is the rough draft I have so far.

Squad One

• Captain - Genryusai
• Card - Homura, Human Ascendant
• Zanpakuto - Myojin of Cleansing Fire or Jiwari, the Earth Aflame
• Reasoning - Straight forward. The art, abilities, and flavor all line up here for the most part.

Squad Two

• Captain - Yoruichi
• Card - Narset, Enlightened Master
• Zanpakuto - ????
• Reasoning - Her unmatched speed makes her untargettable and she can pull a number of techniques from her ninja-like bag of tricks. Need a zanpakuto idea here. Perhaps Neurok Stealthsuit

Squad Three

• Captain - Ichimaru Gin
• Card - Kentaro, the Smiling Cat
• Zanpakuto - Heartseeker
• Reasoning - That smile says it all. Plus the zanpakuto seems to ooze an idea of "hey, stab that guy directly in the chest".

Squad Four

• Captain - Unohana
• Card - Rune-Tail, Kitsune Ascendant
• Zanpakuto - Yomiji, Who Bars the Way
• Reasoning - While her backstory calls for someone that is a much better fighter, I feel that the protection that these two cards offer is flavorful for her "healer" side.

Squad Five

• Captain - Aizen
• Card - Sakashima the Impostor
• Zanpakuto - Perhaps Masterwork of Ingenuity or Quietus Spike
• Reasoning - This was very difficult. I feel that the copying, tricky, "use your power against you" nature of these cards fits fairly well. Not extremely happy with it though.

Squad Six

• Captain - Kuchiki Byakuya
• Card - Kumano, Master Yamabushi
• Zanpakuto - Possibly Sunforger
• Reasoning - I tried to find ideas for a more "spell-caster" type flavor. While I couldn't get a lot of speed or outright power, I feel that the ability to completely exile (read "obliterate") enemies from afar is flavorful enough.

Squad Seven

• Captain - Komamura Sajin
• Card - Geist of Saint Traft
• Zanpakuto - General's Kabuto
• Reasoning - Ok so this one was a bit weird, but I like the idea of the angel forming behind and attacking with Geist, much like Sajin's zanpakuto. The Kabuto was picked purely for the art.

Squad Eight (And Commander for the Deck)

• Captain - Kyouraku Shunsui
• Card - Shy Yun, the Silent Tempest
• Zanpakuto - ???? Perhaps Konda's Banner
• Reasoning - So I needed to fit Shu Yun somewhere to get a valid commander for the character who is acting leader of the squads. This worked nicely enough because two blades = double strike to me.

Squad Nine

• Captain - Tousen
• Card - Opal-Eye, Konda's Yojimbo
• Zanpakuto - Oathkeeper, Takeno's Daisho
• Reasoning - The right hand man and protector of Aizen who won't attack others openly unless it is necessary. A man who tries to be true to his word and oath to the end.

Squad Ten

• Captain - Hitsugaya
• Card - Ojutai, Soul of Winter
• Zanpakuto - Tatsumasa, the Dragon's Fang
• Reasoning - This guy was a little stretch, but I needed an ice theme along with some dragon spice and these two cards slotted i nicely.

Squad Eleven

• Captain - Zaraki Kenpachi
• Card - Konda, Lord of Eiganjo
• Zanpakuto - ????
• Reasoning - I just wanted someone who was very difficult to beat in single combat. This was close enough. Need a good zanpakuto though. Perhaps Blade of the Bloodchief

Squad Twelve

• Captain - Urahara Kisuke
• Card - Eight-and-a-Half-Tails
• Zanpakuto - Erayo, Soratami Ascendant
• Reasoning - I needed to capture the protection and counter magic flavor and I felt that this was ok. This is my personal favorite character and I think he may need some changes

Squad Thirteen

• Captain - Ukitake
• Card - Michiko Konda, Truth Seeker
• Zanpakuto - Livewire Lash
• Reasoning - So the gender doesn't match, but the name along with the "reflect things back" flavor is what I shot for here.

Honorable Mentions:

Mayuri

• Card - Nin, the Pain Artist
• Reasoning - A scientist/torturer who always gets his answers

Kurosaki Ichigo

• Card - Kytheon, Hero of Akros  
• Zanpakuto - Elbrus, the Binding Blade
• Reasoning - Hero that starts small, taunts everyone, and never seems to die. Along with a sword that has some of that "Hollow" evil inside. Hopefully he can Bankai.
