SOTC on isshin samurai tribal

Hey Breastiny, good to see other people brewing with Isshin!

I'd see about maybe running Kentaro, the Smiling Cat as a cheap mana-fixer, to ensure you never have the wrong colors. Fumiko the Lowblood is an excellent card here; your opponents are forced to swing, even with creature they don't want want to attack with. They will either attack other opponents (helping you win) or attack into a pumped-up Fumiko, which will lose them their creatures. In a true Samurai tribal deck, Nagao, Bound by Honor, Takeno, Samurai General, Konda, Lord of Eiganjo and Godo, Bandit Warlord can't be omitted.

As niche picks, consider Iizuka the Ruthless and Opal-Eye, Konda's Yojimbo. The former will put your foes on the back foot, as they never know when the double strike might come through. The latter provides defensive utility, especially late-game when you have access to more mana.

On the non-Samurai end of things, some Equipment that synergizes with Isshin seems like a good call. Sword of the Animist gets even better by fetching you 2 basics instead of 1, while Sigil of Valor and Reaper's Talisman double up on your other 'attacks alone' effects. Other Equipment improved by Isshin includes Argentum Armor, Delver's Torch, Moonsilver Spear Sword of Hours and Trepanation Blade. If you find yourself in need of additional (non-Samurai) cannon fodder, Captain's Claws and Sigiled Sword of Valeron will do in a pinch.

Hope this helps! Good luck :)

PeriodicalFits on Marchesa's Samurai

Hey! I love this, I started my main commander deck as a samurai tribal with Queen Marchesa As the commander, too! As far as Creatures go, adding Masako the Humorless Or Michiko Konda, Truth Seeker can help with some defense control. If you want to keep your creatures dense with samurai, I would suggest Opal-Eye, Konda's Yojimbo. If you want a Shapeshifter, I would replace your Taurean Mauler with a Mirror Entity. For enchantments and artifacts, I would suggest Ghostly Prison for defense purposes, and Coat of Arms for tribal synergy. When playing commander, I always try to run some neat lands in order to make sure I use up my card space efficiently. I would suggest taking out some basic lands and adding Eiganjo Castle , Shinka, the Bloodsoaked Keep , And Shizo, Death's Storehouse. These lands tap for colored mana, don't come in tapped, and give you an extra little something. Those lands have helped me win a few stressful games, and are a few of my favorite cards. Feel free to check out my samurai standard deck, or my Queen Marchesa commander deck for more ideas!! Good luck!!

Caerwyn on Yojimbo and trample

Trample merely reallocates how the damage from that source may be divided; it is still the same source though. As such, if you tap Opal-Eye, Konda's Yojimbo before damage is dealt targeting the 2/2 filer with Trample (such as targeting it during the declare blockers step after blockers are declared), then the 1/1 will be fine, and Opal-Eye will take the damage.

As a note, because of the way it works, you will not have to actually block with the 1/1 to prevent you from taking damage. You can just let the 2/2 flier go unblocked, then prevent the damage with Opal-Eye--no flier of your own necessary (though there may be reasons you would want to both block and redirect damage, such as if your 1/1 flier had deathtouch).

If an opponent has a 2/2 flyer with trample and attacks, and I block with a 1/1 flyer, 1 point of damage will carry on to me. If I have a Opal-Eye, Konda's Yojimbo and tap it, will it redirect the 1 damage of trample, or will it redirect 2 points of damage to itself (and save the 1/1 flyer)?

As I mentioned before: Kor Haven and Reconnaissance come to mind first. for me 33 land is just not enough. I know sometimes you feel like you get mana flooded but thats why we want a bunch of ways to draw cards. As long as you are drawing gas you'll have something to spend the mana on. I would never run less than 35 lands in most commander decks and if my commander costs 5 or more I'm almost always at 37 + 10 ways to ramp. It may seem like a lot but id rather have too many resources than not enough.

You currently have like 14 "ramp" cards. I would add in 4 more land and lose 4 of the ramp cards my cuts would be Gilded Lotus, Charcoal Diamond, Azorius Keyrune and Orbs of Warding. Orbs isn't a ramp spell so that would leave you with 37 land and 11 ramp cards.

I know you are going for a rat sub-theme but if I'm being honest a lot of rat cards don't do much after they come into play. I think without your couple of rats matter cards a lot of your creatures will feel lack luster when you play them. I would consider losing this theme and just playing more explosive cards with odd mana costs.

Opal-Eye, Konda's Yojimbo seems out of place and easy to cut. Let me know if you had it there for a reason.

In the end overall consider that yennett is letting you play spells for free you really want to feel like you got value out of it. It will feel bad when you flip over a 1 drop 1/1 or some

Hello again! I would like to take this time to show support for Opal-Eye, Konda's Yojimbo .

Some of you may remember me from the Elsha cEDH post above. But my funsie EDH deck is in fact Opal-Eye, Konda's Yojimbo If the admins of this particular list would care to like it and potentially post it (Do mind you, this is NOT Yojimbo at its maximum potential. So there are no tutors besides Land Tax) Then I would be grateful. Also, for those interested in building him, this is a good primer for building a deck geared around him.

Yojimbo's Sanctions And thank you for your time and patronage.
