Commander / EDH Control Mono-Blue Turns

“Control, control …. You must learn control!”

The first Commander deck I ever built and how it’s changed over the years!

This originally started out as sea creatures deck. Quest for Ula's Temple is a personal favourite of mine but sadly is no more. The deck has moved completely away from that theme although a few pieces do remain. Stormtide Leviathan has kept its place and can be a great finisher, especially when copied with Rite of Replication and protected by counter magic.

Whelming Wave keeps a spot and can be used if you’re being overwhelmed early or to leave the board with only your Hullbreaker Horror left after it resolves. I would have liked to have kept Inkwell Leviathan in the deck but c’est la vie.

The idea is to get to the late game by countering/stealing/copying key pieces on the field and then taking extra turns until you find the sweet glory of victory.

The standard package is included here; Time Warp, Temporal Manipulation and Time Stretch all do what you need and can be recurred with Archaeomancer and Mnemonic Wall.

Expropriate is of course an absolute beast and Blatant Thievery can be back-breaking for your opponents.

If you wish to manipulate the continuum further then cards like Time Stop and Discontinuity are your best friend.

In terms of raw control the deck runs some powerful interaction. Cryptic Command is versatile, as is Mystic Confluence. Desertion may seem expensive but in the right situation can be a complete blow out for your enemy. Rewind combined with a Tamiyo, the Moon Sage ultimate is gg.

Force of Will and Pact of Negation can protect you in your darkest hour or force through your diabolical plans. Mana Drain is pure power no matter the circumstance and Tale's End is extremely useful considering the cost.

Disallow is a personal favourite of mine for the flavour text alone and Summary Dismissal can take care of almost anything the game can throw at you.

A few honourable mentions include Shark Typhoon which can not only be a wincon but does not affect your attacks if you’ve got Stormtide Leviathan out.

Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir makes sure your machinations go through and Thryx, the Sudden Storm helps to take those extra turns earlier whilst not having to worrying about other blue players at the table.
