Boromir, Warden of the Tower
Legendary Creature — Human Soldier
Vigilance
Whenever an opponent casts a spell, if no mana was spent to cast it, counter that spell.
Sacrifice Boromir, Warden of the Tower: Creatures you control gain indestructible until end of turn. The Ring tempts you. (Damage and effects that say "destroy" don't destroy it.)

Specific changes. All of these changes optimize card draw, tutoring, protection to board state, create synergies and infinite combos, and optimization to allow instant speed responses.
OUT: Ardenn, Intrepid Archaeologist (thought this would be awesome, disappointed in performance) Assemble the Players (sub-optimal card draw) Aurelia's Fury Bitterthorn, Nissa's Animus (land drops have not been a problem and by the time I draw it, I needed something else) Brimaz, King of Oreskos (love this guy, but had to cut) Chained to the Rocks Elbrus, the Binding Blade Flip (obtained better equipment) Fellwar Stone Hixus, Prison Warden (never happy when I had this in hand because you need to let the damage land, plus you fail to build board state when waiting to draw a punch) Illusionist's Bracers (I realized there was little in this deck that this could help) Kemba, Kha Enduring (I want the option of where the equipment goes) Kjeldoran Outpost (did help create a chump blocker and spend unused mana, but I didn't like losing the land) Lapse of Certainty (replaced with better options, but I love this card) Lightning Helix Path of Mettle Flip (never had good results) Prophetic Flamespeaker (under-performed) Puresteel Paladin (tough cut) Purphoros, God of the Forge (under-performed) Rogue's Passage Sea Gate Wreckage Silverblade Paladin (love this guy, tough cut) Sram, Senior Edificer (very tough and recent cut for Leonin Shikari and Merry, who are just better but I may put back in) Sword of the Animist (land drops have not been a problem and by the time I draw it, I needed something else) Wingmate Roc (love it but under-performed)
In: Esper Sentinel (card draw) Leonin Shikari (instant speed equiping is amazing) Merry, Esquire of Rohan (card draw) Enlightened Tutor (great for combos/synergies) Sigarda's Aid (so great) Pyrohemia (this card is a beast with Iroas! Even without Iroas must people don't have easy ways to deal with enchantments and this is a wraith on a stick. I've added it to all of my red decks and it's cousin (Pestilence) to my black decks in a slot I would normally hold for a wraith) Teferi's Protection (protect the board state) Excalibur, Sword of Eden Fighter Class (tutor!) Angelic Skirmisher (lifelink to stretch game and facilitates infinite combos) Splendor Mare (put it on Reckoner or Spitemare, give them indestructable, and gain infinite life, or move it to pyrohemia with nesting grounds to get massive amounts of life as you flamethrower the whole table!!) Mask of Avacyn (better option then shroud from boots, you need to be able to dynamically react/voltron) Mob Rule (this just finishes games) Smothering Tithe (ramp) Sunforger (some say you must build around this, I say you use this as a key tutor for when you need an instant) Nesting Grounds Spitemare The One Ring (card draw, duh) Minas Tirith (card draw) Sunhome, Fortress of the Legion (value engine, mana dump) Phyrexian Vindicator (beefy flier, helps get Iroas online, and difficult to remove) War of the Last Alliance (tutor) Hall of Heliod's Generosity (bring back pyrohemia and flamethrower the world all over again!!) Mask of Memory (card draw) Boromir, Warden of the Tower (protect board state)

@capwner I 100% agree with the Cavern of Souls pick. I didn't realize while I was going through my revisions that I still had a lot of humans in the deck. Will make that switch right away!
I should probably start a Maybeboard with cards including Boromir, Warden of the Tower as he was originally part of the list while I was cutting cards, and he was one of the few I was struggling to keep or not in the 99.
I'm a dirty blue player at heart so finding a balance between having enough stax pieces while also having some form of interaction/recursion was a fun challenge for me with this deck. I will definitely be checking out your list when I have time later today! Always love seeing other people's ideas when approaching a similar theme/playstyle

Heliod, Stax-Crowned

I almost just built this same deck lol. I wanted to build mono W wrath prison with Myojin of Cleansing Fire and Heliod as a wincon, and then I remembered that card is stone garbage as a commander. So I thought about building Heliod just for the ease of comboing off, but I ultimately decided to build Boromir, Warden of the Tower because he also has 2-piece combos/locks that I thought better fit the 'prison' style I was going for. It's interesting to see a fully fleshed Heliod list right after building my white list... Your list seems a bit light on stax pieces actually, with a lot more instant speed interaction to protect the combo win. Seems pretty good! Boromir might actually be good in here as a decent stax piece himself and also being able to protect your team, since you are almost entirely on hatebears. Also Cavern of Souls is a must IMO because of all your humans, and your win combo is also creature based. Just some thoughts, if you wanted to check out an alternate take on mono W stax/prison, check out my deck it should be near the top of my profiles! +1 for that mono white steez

Hackbrett I am SO sorry that it took me this long to respond! Thank you so much for your kind words words, and I am very happy to learn that someone else built the deck and is seeing success with it.
I am definitely noticing that multiple people are seeing success with Boromir, Warden of the Tower. I think I need to playtest this card more to see if the effect comes into play enough to offset the higher mana cost compared to Selfless Spirit.
Thousand Moons Smithy Flip is a card that got my attention a while back, although my initial impression was that it felt a bit too "win-more"-ish. Regardless, I am in the process of playtesting it, along with Delney, Streetwise Lookout, Wylie Duke, Atiin Hero and a couple of other cards. I think that Delney, Streetwise Lookout will almost certainly make the list because it is both a tapping outlet AND a token doubler for this deck (although it is a shame that it cannot double Welcoming Vampire and similar cards). However, I still don't know what it will replace. One thing I will say is that long-time "staples" of the deck, such as Paradise Mantle and Springleaf Drum have started to feel less and less essential now that we have so many toys to play with.
I will keep everyone updated in the coming months. Hopefully MH3 gives us some more goodies!

How about:
-
Phyrexian Vindicator, solves flying and deters combat.
-
Since you have Brave the Sands, you can use Defensive Formation to assign blocked damage how you choose.
-
Some runner ups Boromir, Warden of the Tower, Aven Mindcensor, Ghostly Prison, Maze of Ith.

Some small terminology errors, but you understand how it plays out and are correct about the major points.
Terminology pedantry if you care about being exactly correct as well:
Boromir, Warden of the Tower's bottom ability is activated, not triggered. When Boromir is activated Ratadrabik triggers as the cost is paid and will go on the stack above the Boromir ability. After that you are spot on, except that you left out that his creatures are made indestructible as part of the same ability that makes a Ring-bearer. (you fixed the last point as I was typing)
