new sneks in tha hood

lornlynx, 7 years ago

removed Explorer's Scope for Sword of the Animist: Tried Scope, it's shit.

removed Riptide Replicator for Honored Hydra: Expensive token creature for new cool snake in tha hood (also hooded snake).

removed Kashi-Tribe Elite for Rhonas's Last Stand: Rarely useful snake for new buff snake.

That's it guys! After a short time I edit it and now I will try it and I hope it will be working. I make it more effective, for example exchange of Naturalize for Destructive Revelry. I hope you will enjoy the change. Good luck!

Ixalan Pre-Release Playtesting

Philoctetes, 7 years ago

Whew, after a long while I've finally gotten the chance to do some real playtesting. I purchased a home recently which has made doing anything else tough, but I had a magic binge weekend with the Ixalan Pre-Release events and played some commander in between events and things.

What I noticed playing the deck was that.... It actually works really well! The storm package sets up nicely over time, and all those cantrips really keep your wheels spinning. The one thing that didn't work great were the "Lifegain Matters" effects. Specifically, Cradle of Vitality was just incredibly slow and not the type of hate we want to draw.

In terms of improvements, I aim to streamline the deck more thoroughly now. Greed has to go - I often had a choice to cantrip or draw with it, and the obvious answer was to stock my graveyard with cantrips for a future Past in Flamesfoil or Mizzix's Mastery. The 2 life also really hurts, as Licia often gets removed on sight so keeping your life total up really matters. Also, I need to streamline and make more robust the storm package as that was how I typically win. The lifegain is more a "Plan B" or bogie to distract from the long-term GY stock plan. This means I am doing everything I can to add spells as well to increase my storm count when I "Go Off". I also felt I needed some protection, so Glacial Chasm comes in as a nice tutor target for dire situations.

To that end: -Cradle of Vitality, -Ayli, Eternal Pilgrim, -Karlov of the Ghost Council, -Gonti's Machinations, -Greed, -Mountain, -Sunhome, Fortress of the Legion, -Sanguine Bond

+Tendrils of Agony, +Tormenting Voice, +Chaplain's Blessing, +Crash Through, +Recoup, +Clifftop Retreat, +Glacial Chasm, +Pyroblast

Chaplain's Blessing gets back into the deck over Gonti's Machinations as a spell version of the effect. This is key in order to have a way to reduce Licia's cost from the GY during your big turn, acting as a way to up your spell count and really combo off with a Burnt Offering. Tendrils comes in as true storm spell #2, less explosive but more reliable. Recoup goes in as a third recursion spell. Yawgmoth's Will will replace if I ever acquire my brother's copy.

Last note, Sanguine Bond draws too much hate for someone not playing the combo, and it feels a little "Win More" when its actually good. This deck is not focusing on that angle nearly as much as other Licia decks are, so I removed it to fly under the radar a bit better. Pyroblast is a card I had wanted to fit in so it gets the nod as a cheap interaction piece, which the deck lacks.

I'll be adding individual spell explanations soon to make it more "Primer-y"!

removed Throne of the God-Pharaoh for Boreal Druid: Throne is not bad, but also kinda slow, if I have the mana to cast it and creatures, I usually have already better uses for the cardslot. Boreal is lovely ramp.

removed Gilt-Leaf Archdruid for Arbor Elf: Archdruid is nice but rarely useful because he is expensive to cast. Often when I have that mana I have already other things to cast. Might readd later. Arbor is lovely ramp.

removed Carpet of Flowers for Wild Growth: Back again, Carpet might be completely useless, especially in my meta, but wild growth is never a dead card and ensured ramp.

removed Scour from Existence for Uncage the Menagerie: Scour can be of use as the only exile permanent in green, but I think some very flexible tutor is worth more, at worst I search for Reclamation Sage

removed Immaculate Magistrate for Wildest Dreams: Put counters on only creature at a time is very meh, and Magistrate is not cheap as well. Wildest Dreams instead is fantastic graveyard recursion.

removed Wellwisher for Soul of the Harvest: Wellwisher was for the rare case of having to end a game with Squall Line, which never happens. Soul is really good carddraw that should help me into the midgame.

removed Masked Admirers for Nissa, Genesis Mage: Rarely am I able to use the Admirers, and they are expensive as hell. I want to try out Nissa, while expensive she should be easy to cast with my ramp and her +2 is just supergood in for what I try to achieve.

removed Jagged-Scar Archers for Cloudstone Curio: I have enough anti-flier stuff now I think, instead Cloudstone gives an additional combopiece.

removed Sea Gate Wreckage for Desert of the Indomitable: Rarely do I really have zero cards in hand. Instead moar cycliiing.

I want to add Hostage Taker .. sweet and flexible effetc, can act as remove/take creature from opponent or false blink for some etb effect we have like Noxious Gearhulk or some tutors Treasure Mage. According gatherer, the exiled card is a new object then Heartless act reducing their cost.

Want to test some Chart a Course too. Seens so sweet, we can discard some HS on late, its a good advantage card

moar stuff and some testing

removed an Island for Breeding Pool: upgrade.

removed Den Protector for Eternal Witness: I think the small upside of Den Protector as an attacker is nothing to the cheap ETB effect of the witness.

removed Myriad Landscape for Endless Sands: trying out removing the tapland for more utility, check description for explanation.

removed Curse of the Swine for Ezuri's Predation: I would like to test out how Predation works as it might be pretty ridiculous when I have a token doubler on board.

removed Beastmaster Ascension for Herald of Secret Streams: why using some pump when you can just give everyone unbblockable

Also, I am testing out how the deck feels with more ramp pieces, these changes are not listed in the main decklist:

removed Gilder Bairn for Elvish Mystic: conditional usefulness for ramp.

removed Hooded Hydra for Wood Elves:conditional exp creator for ramp.

removed Thelonite Hermit for Priest of Titania: worst token producer for elf mana producer.

testing Nissa, Steward of the Elements, for which I removed a Triskelion

Rounded Deck

I find this is the best configuration I have for the deck. Having 2 Dismembers main and Hive Mind on Sideboard is a Legit way to increase the chance of winning in sideboarded games. Regards

IV - Adding more insanity

Ziembski, 7 years ago

I fell in love with this deck and theme. Splashing black opened few interesting things:

TheBatchCode, 7 years ago

Replaced some sideboards for Unsummons, may even find a place for them in the mainboard, good time to unsummon before discard, late game its basically a kill spell if the opponent isn't running godly card advantage. Also considering Consign/Oblivion, seems like a very good combination of things I want to do. Late game if I want to save my hand, I can just dig Oblivion up and make sure they have nothing to do

(0.1.0) Less boardwipes, Changes to sideboard

ClockGear, 7 years ago

-2 Bontu's Last Reckoning

+2 Inspiring Statuary

Sideboard:

-1 Lost Legacy

-1 Authority of the Consuls

-2 Sorcerous Spyglass

+2 Duress

+2 Dispossess

I removed 2 Bontu's Last Reckoning since i reckon that 6 boardwipes will be enough and I replaced it with 2 Inspiring Statuary to make our 5 and 6 cost spells easier to cast and make us able to do multiple things in one turn. In the sideboard I replaced Sorcerous Spyglass with Dispossess since I believe that Dispossess could be very strong against cards like Torrential Gearhulk and God-Pharaoh's Gift and I wasn't sure what to use the spyglass for anyway. Also I removed 1 Lost Legacy and 1 Authority of the Consuls in favor of 2x Duress to fight against combo and control.

Another slight change

ohioman, 7 years ago

2 Mana Leak out for 1+ Demonlord of Ashmouth and 1+ Eater of Days Sideboard to be determined soon

Slight main board changes

ohioman, 7 years ago

Took out 2 Negate for 2 Mana Leak (Negate will probably be on sideboard) Switched out 2 Dismember for 2 Demonlord of Ashmouth for a higher chance of creature draw (Dismember will definitely be on the sideboard)

Rotation!

xcn, 7 years ago

Taking out the Arlinns for the two Rhonas the Indomitable I've picked up, and going down to 3 LtL to fit both in the main board. Other than that, I need to start picking up more Rootbound Crag and maybe another Sheltered Thicket, possibly removing one desert to make the Crags work better. Time will tell with that one.

Planning to remove the Magma Sprays now that Zombies aren't a concern, and maybe look into grabbing more Glorybringers and slipping some more Abrades.

2 Wastelands, Sb Goyf

ThoughtCaesar, 7 years ago

I decided I could try a second Wasteland. My first go at it was disappointing, but we'll see how I feel this time. I also wanted a card in my board that was good against decks with huge amounts of inevitability-like Burn, Post, Eldrazi, Lands, or even silly stompy decks and the best thing there is a clock. At first, I thought about True-Name but he's only very strong against Lands and Eldrazi and I thought about Gurmag Angler, but it's rare that I want a second of those against random control and midrange decks playing Push anyways so I opted for a better beater in the match-ups where I wanted another-match-ups where my opponent does not likely play Push or Decay

Week 2 Changelog

CGA, 7 years ago

Aight, initial notes might be a little short. I had this all written up and changes made and tappedout decided to sign me out and forgot everything instead of saving. Anyway... Things coming in! Tragic Arrogance - $0.28 Strionic Resonator - $4.72 Planar Outburst - $0.13 Crux of Fate - $0.41 Charmbreaker Devils - $0.20 Spiteful Visions - $0.36 Kambal, Consul of Allocation - $0.27 Psychosis Crawler - $0.33 Luminate Primordial - $0.17 Avarice Amulet - $0.13 Wayfarer's Bauble - $0.08 Mind Stone - $0.59 Fellwar Stone - $0.29 Talisman of Indulgence - $0.28 Commander's Sphere - $0.45 Hedron Archive - $0.46 Slayers' Stronghold - $0.42 Rogue's Passage - $0.14 10x basic land combo - $0.25 (2x Swamp, 4x Mountain, 4x Plains) ________________________ Total for week 2: $9.96 Carryover: $0.04 So that's 18 cards. Let's hope I don't need to change anything last minute! On to things coming out! Skeletal Vampire - I don't like it and it's bad. Bloodhusk Ritualist - Seems ok, things I'd much rather run though. Heirloom Blade - I'm going to be cutting a lot of the tribal aspects out of the deck. Well of Lost Dreams - is ok, cutting for space. Kindred Charge - More Tribal support. This is a cool effect that I'm just not pumped to play. Curse of Disturbance - Underwhelming and I need space Blood Tribute - Big effect but I need to lower the curve and I'm adding in a lot at 5 and 6 cost. Outpost Siege - I really need the draw but I'm wary of losing cards and need a lot of space. Damnable Pact - Didn't play this one and really want to like it but there's just a lot more I'd rather play. Tithe Drinker - Too small, I love extort but no, bye. Pawn of Ulamog - Might be coming back. Love the effect and might push for massive mana effects later on. Malakir Bloodwitch - Seems amazing under Edgar Markov, seems too costly for what I want. Blood Baron of Vizkopa - Want you to be good and if you had flying you'd stay. Curse of Vitality - Need ramp a lot more than this. Skeletal Scrying - I just hate this card. Too many costs and it's real dead early game when you don't have a graveyard. Kheru Mind Eater - Between this and Licia I feel like I need a larger beater. She's probably cut next week. Door of Destinies - Also might go back in but for now I'm cutting it for space. Kabira Crossroads - The art looks great but I'd rather an untapped plains than a tapped one. Urborg Volcano - Now a Rogue's Passage! Boros Guildgate - Now a Slayers' Stronghold! Orzhov Guildgate - This out for basics, early start to a better lands package. Heirloom Blade also became a basic, the card it was supposed to become got cut for budget and I'd already settled on pulling it.
