Rhonas's Last Stand

Sorcery

Create a 5/4 green Snake creature token. Lands you control don't untap during your next untap step.

You definitely want some more 1 mana creatures -- I'd go with the playset of Dryad Militant . It's a good rate and against some decks it'll have to be killed first before they can care about your other stuff.

Scooze is grindy, so I'd go to 2 copies maindeck. It's okay as a manasink once your main aggro plan is going, but it's better in long games.

I'd honestly not bother with the Loaming Shamans, put two of the Scoozes in there and if four scoozes isn't enough grave hate, then consider adding some more.

Prowling Serpopard is okay, but I'm not sure how relevant the "can't be countered" clause is right now. We just got Counterspell though, so we'll see.

I'd definitely play four Rancor . Also, Ram Through seems pretty meh to me. I wouldn't bother with it.

Mutagenic Growth could be really powerful. At least consider it.

You need at least a copy or two of Weather the Storm in the sideboard for aggro matchups. You already have a decent matchup against things like burn or zoo, but that'll hole it all up.

If you had a LOT more 1 drops, Rhonas's Last Stand could really put in some work. I'd at least test it out after you get a few weeks of experience, maybe it'll be good.

So remember in Amonkhet that cycle of cards which all did something pretty powerful for their cost, but then had the massive downside of almost making you skip a turn:

From what I can tell they are:

In commander losing a turn is pretty bad. I have my own opinion's on each of them, but there is a clear worst in commander (spoiler it's Rhonas's Last Stand)

Anyway, I only have used Bontu's last yell in commander, and it's pretty good early game, and a last resort late game (overall as it goes a pretty good card).

Amyway my question is: Does anyone have their own experience using this cycle and what do you think of them?

Electric Fence

Artifact Creature - Wall

Defender

During your untap step, if an effect or ability would prevent you from untapping lands or artifacts you control, Electric Fence deals X damage to that effect's controller, where X is the number of permenants you control that didn't untap.

1 / 2

SUCK IT Tangle Wire and Winter Orb you can auto-lose.

Incidentally, this also hits random things like Dungeon Geists , Claustrophobia , Queen of Ice , and hurts YOU if you have exert effects or play cards like Rhonas's Last Stand ...

I remember this deck. I always thought Spark Elemental would make a good push for this deck. Rancor might be another good way to milk those dies triggers while still getting value out of it. If this deck is fast at emptying the hand you might find either Lupine Prototype or Rhonas's Last Stand helpful.

StoryArcher on Looking ahead to October (Mono-Green …

Good afternoon, everyone.

As stated in the title, I'm looking ahead to what modifications my mono-green stompy deck will have to make. Obviously there should be something good in the new set when it rotates in, but I can make room for whatever that might be when the time comes.

I was primarily considering swapping out the cards that I lose (2x Rhonas the Indomitable, 2x Heart of Kiran and 4x Rhonas's Last Stand) with 2x Wayward Swordtooth, 3x Jadelight Ranger and 3x Merfolk Branchwalker, with the reasoning that while it might not be be quite as fast out of the gate, it should help me filter my deck to make it more efficient.

I would be interested in hearing the thoughts of others on that in particular, as well as any other substitutions that I should seriously consider. Thanks in advance for responding.

Jam more Thragtusk. More Beast Within. Disruption, tokens, lifegain. Interacting with your opponent doesn't sound as good as an infinitely scaling threat, but is mostly a stronger option.

Rhonas's Last Stand is the newest interesting thing for the archetype, giving some much needed early power.

Mercy Killing doesn't sound great, but is almost playable. Wolfbriar Elemental is similar.

Then we get to the janky stuff. Call of the Herd or Mouth // Feed, perhaps, Pulse of the Tangle or Cobra Trap. Things to stop you dying to early creature drops. Giantbaiting into Second Harvest is a fun option. It of the Horrid Swarm or Miming Slime exist. Mitotic Slime is obnoxious if you can proc it. Ooze Garden can be a lot of fun. Slime Molding seems interesting alongside song/ Spore Swarm/Sprout Swarm

There are also weird rebuild options like Prototype Portal/Soul Foundry with artifact creatures and golem tokens, elf tribal, Khalni Garden/land token generation builds. Lots of cards, nothing that has shaken the world recently. Good luck with the build.

Am wondering what's the rational with Rhonas's Last Stand? Wondering if Main Deck Artifact/Enchantment hate might be better? Thrashy-B?
