This is my casual Wort, the Raidmother deck.

This was my first commander deck, which actually started out as a Rosheen Meanderer x-cost tribal deck. It's been through many iterations, but is now an incremental burn deck. This list doesn't include any infinite combos any mana doubling effects, haste enablers, or mana rituals (unless you coun't Xenagos, the Reveler or Manamorphose). I've found that these restrictions help forecast the deck's strengths, improve consistency, and encourage interactive games. Like most Wort, the Raidmother decks, this list is kind of goofy (and still explosive) and a lot of fun to play.

I frequently bring this deck out if I want to help the playgroup relax and be bit sillier. Cards like Fiery Gambit, The Great Aurora, Wild Swing, Charmbreaker Devils add a random element to the game that can be exciting and fun while also being entirely functional. Additionally, people can find it amusing when any spell is copied many times - using Howl of the Horde makes anything a little bit silly.

This description is going to explain the thinking behind each of the custom categories that I've sorted the list into, I hope you enjoy reading about the list as much as I enjoy playing it!

Noteworthy Rules Show

(1) If Wort, the Raidmother resolves during your turn you have priority and your opponents can only remove her in response to her ETB (summon the goblins), and after that they have to wait until you pass priority. This is super important - you don't have to pass priority until you've cast a spell and the conspire trigger has been put on the stack. Unless your opponents can remove enough creatures such that you don't have two to tap for conspire, you will be able to copy the spell of your choice.

(2) Spells that say "target" in them require that they have legal targets to be cast - you cannot cast Decimate unless there is an artifact, enchantment, creature, and land that are all legal targets. However, you can target the same permanents multiple times with copies of a spell - if there is only one artifact but many enchantments, creatures, and lands that you want to remove you can cast and copy Decimate as many times as you want and have all copies targeting the same artifact. None of the spells will fizzle.

(3) Because Conspire is a trigger and cost associated with the spell being cast, creatures with summoning sickness can tap in order to conspire spells. Summoning sickness prevents that creature from attacking and tapping as a cost of its own activated abilities, but not from being tapped as a cost associated with the ability of a different permanent or spell.

The Draw: Show

I've built this draw package so that Wort, the Raidmother and other fork effects are central. Cards like Cathartic Reunion, Magmatic Insight, and Nostalgic Dreams all cost very little mana because they don't technically generate card advantage on their own. Because copying these spells does not involve paying their costs again they become incredibly efficient - a conspired Magmatic Insight essentially reads: "Discard a land card, then draw four cards". I've included these cards because it's important to have a play on the same turn as Wort, the Raidmother - she draws a lot of removal so it's smarter to play her with two mana leftover to cast Explore or Manamorphose and generate card advantage than to pray that she survives an entire turn cycle. Benefactor's Draught falls into the category of cheap cantrips as well, but doubles as a way to refresh our creatures to tap for conspire.

The other main attempt to generate card advantage is to use spells that put lands straight into our hand and then wheel them. Seek the Horizon, Sprouting Vines, Yavimaya Elder, and Lay of the Land help to both smooth out land-drops and power up wheel effects like Incendiary Command or Collective Defiance. The wheel effects are also fantastic for hand disruption - tutors and combos are common in EDH and a well timed wheel effect can ruin an opponent's plans.

Shamanic Revelation, Harmonize, and Wildest Dreams are much simpler attempts to draw cards.

The Creatures: Show

Creatures are both secondary and central to this deck's purpose - conspire cares about valuable sorceries and instants to copy, but requires that you control creatures in order to copy them. Dragonlair Spider, One Dozen Eyes, and Goblin Offensive all generate large numbers of tokens that can be used to copy spells, tap down for Burn at the Stake, or produce mana with Xenagos, the Reveler. Crush of Wurms provides 6/6 tokens that both draw cards and gain life with Shamanic Revelation. Release the Gremlins doubles as efficient artifact removal and a token generator. Revel of the Fallen God is one of the deck's stronger finishers - the tokens have haste so they can swing right away. Satyrs are also fantastic because they can tap to conspire either red or green spells. Charmbreaker Devils is quite strong because it can deal large amounts of damage to anyone without blockers, but perhaps more importantly draws extra cards by recurring instants and sorceries from the graveyard.

The Removal: Show

This deck uses a combination of sweepers and efficient targeted removal. Blasphemous Act, Incendiary Command, Starstorm, and Mizzium Mortars are all strong ways to clear the field of creatures. It's frequently a good idea to wait for other players to flood the field with creatures and cast a board wipe before playing Wort, the Raidmother because while it provides no protection from spot removal, it makes it less likely that Wort will be caught in a Wrath of God that another player cast with your opponent's creatures in mind.

The Great Aurora is included here because it can remove indestructible permanents like the Theros gods. The Great Aurora can also be used to great effect when copied - as each copy of the spell resolves you put however many lands in play and then tap them for mana (and play instants if applicable) before moving on to the next copy of The Great Aurora. This allows you to have extra mana for rebuilding on the now empty board. The token generation effects and card draw also make it likely that The Great Aurora will draw us more cards than our opponents and put us ahead on the new board.

Comet Storm can remove exactly the most problematic creatures or burn our opponents. Hull Breach and Decimate can hit problematic enchantments and artifacts. Incendiary Command or Aftershock can remove specific creatures or lands that are causing problems (such as Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth or Glacial Chasm).

Wild Swing can be played on turn four if we really need to kill "anything please just let me eliminate something at all" or can be copied targeting the same permanents multiple times in order to ensure their removal (as each copy resolves you randomly select from whatever targets still remain). Pyroblast is a silver bullet that can protect our most important spells from counter-magic or get forked and simultaneously remove a Consecrated Sphinx and Rhystic Study to deny our opponents cards.

The Burn: Show

For what is ultimately a Burn deck, this section is small. This is possible largely because of the recursion package we use, but also because the burn spells included are already incredibly efficient and become even more efficient when we copy them. Incendiary Command and Collective Defiance include burn options but double as removal and draw. Price of Progress can deal incredible amounts of damage for a two mana instant (due the amount of ramp and nonbasic lands that people play), which makes it easy to copy with effects like Reverberate or Dualcaster Mage.

Mages' Contest is included in the burn section because I rarely expect to "win" the auction - people are usually willing to pay as much as 1/4 - 1/3 of their life total before giving up on a valuable spell. I've never forked this spell, but am not sure how attempting to play out those multiple bids would go.

Banefire, Burn at the Stake, and Clan Defiance are big finishers. The deck packs a lot of ramp which eventually makes it possible to cast the X spells for ~X>20 and a lot of token generation which makes it possible to tap >10 creatures for Burn at the Stake. When combined with incremental burn and damage from earlier in the game and fork effects to target multiple players they can end games.

Fiery Gambit is one of my pet cards, and is really fantastic. Whenever I play this card, it's because I'm going for all three flips. Unfortunately, this means that I usually lose and get nothing. Sometimes I'll try to copy the card a few times (we're supposed to win at least once if we can copy it ~7 times), but other times I go for three flips on turn three because it can generate a ridiculous lead (I dream about drawing nine cards and untapping into Summer Bloom and three lands).

The Ramp: Show

Most of the ramp package in this deck is fairly standard. Explosive Vegetation, Cultivate, and Kodama's Reach are strong value-based ramp cards. Nature's Lore, Elvish Mystic, and Sol Ring are fast. Boundless Realms provides a massive amount of mana if it resolves.

Harvest Season is somewhat uniquely strong with Wort, the Raidmother because Wort provides a way to tap creatures with summoning sickness.

Summer Bloom is also entirely viable in this deck. At first I was concerned that I would rarely have enough lands to use it, but the amount of land-to-hand spells makes this card ridiculous ramp.

The Forks: Show

I've settled on using relatively few cards that actually function as fork effects on their own. Dualcaster Mage provides Reverberate as well as a red body to tap for conspire spells. A lot of the ramp is around three mana which makes Goblin Dark-Dwellers strong - casting Kodama's Reach a second time on turn five along with a 4/4 with menace is a good deal.

Howl of the Horde might be the most powerful card in the deck. Casting almost any spell two extra times for an additional three mana is very strong - even Manamorphose or Explore works well, and those are the lowest possible value targets. Wort, the Raidmother provides an extra goblin dummy to swing in for the Raid effect and can conspire Howl of the Horde to cast the next spell a total of five times. The strongest targets in these situations are Revel of the Fallen God, Burn at the Stake, Comet Storm etc. Mirari and Pyromancer's Goggles make this situation even more ridiculous.

Mizzix's Mastery also deserves a mention - obviously this card is wild, but it does work particularly well with Wort, the Raidmother in that because the copies are cast, you can conspire them. It is worth noting that you probably shouldn't conspire or otherwise fork Mizzix's Mastery, as the later copies will exile the remaining 0 cards in your graveyard and accomplish nothing.

The basic idea though is that most any spell in the deck is stronger when copied, and using a copy effect also gives another opportunity to conspire the spell (by conspiring the copying effect).

The Rest: Show

Lands: I run almost entirely basic lands because I can avoid non-basic land hate, keep the deck budget, and can go a little bit further with late-game ramp that can only find basic lands. I run Cinder Glade because it makes Nature's Lore stronger.

Other: Vedalken Orrery, Flash is really strong in this deck because so many of the cards are flexible and modal - it can be useful to hold onto a spell like Aftershock to choose between the Thespian's Stage that's been around for a turn cycle or the Sire Of Insanity that just dropped. Additionally, playing Wort, the Raidmother immediately before your turn makes it more likely that you'll untap with her in play.

Maybeboard: Despite this deck not having any haste enablers, I do occasionally untap with a large field of creatures and I think Haze of Rage would be a fun way to abuse this. Mana Echoes is wild with Wort, the Raidmother as it makes her generate 9 colorless mana when she enters the battlefield. The only reason that I don't have a copy is because it's ~$10 (edit: it spiked to $20 with the HOU spoilers...) and I'm not positive it would work (and don't have anywhere else to put it if it doesn't work). I'm actually quite excited to acquire and test a copy of Ignorant Bliss, which I believe would function well as a silver-bullet against discard effects, fall into the category of cheap cantrips, give me an out when I want to wheel an opponent but not myself with Incendiary Command, or power up a Magus of the Wheel.
