This deck came about because I disassembled three of my other EDH decks, and realized around the same time that the copy of Alela I had left over from taking apart four of the Brother's War retro frame precon decks for their cards could make for a viable retro frame commander.

Like many of my other decks, the concept for this one is essentially the same as its new frame counterparts: cast a ton of enchantments and artifacts and generate a ton of fairy tokens. The deck can struggle with "bouncing back" from board wipes, but that may be due to my unfamiliarity with playing it relative to my other decks. This deck struggles more against new frame decks than many of my others. I'm open to any suggestions for revision.

Notes:

  • The deck is a bit low on creatures at the moment; ideally the tokens fill the void but at times this can be a problem. Protecting Alela from removal is essential, and while the deck's focus on enchantments can help with this, the deck struggles a bit against more agressive decks.
  • Artifact lands are excellent for maximizing token generation
  • Generating thopter artifact tokens also generates faeries!
  • The amount of removal and control available is great, but can be a detriment to the deck if used after Alela has been played, since casting enough cards to generate new tokens after a board wipe often proves too slow relative to the deck's opponents.
  • Creatures with flying benefit from Alela also, and thankfully many of the Brother's War precon decks are full of artifact creatures with flying.
  • As is the case with all of my retro frame decks, the dual lands are proxies IRL
