He may be the God of Deception, but Phenax loves big butts and can not lie.

Game plan

Phenax lends itself to a more combo style mill win. Incremental mill often just benefits sensible opponents who have recursion so it's best to just skip straight to empty libraries. Incremental mill also suffers from "do nothing" syndrome.

Mill is the most honorable and flavorful win condition and this deck aims to achieve it every game.

Winning

Most wins occur when your opponents die due to their draw step. However in the event of an Eldrazi titan or or kind of shuffle effect then one of many instant speed forced draw effects may become necessary: Dakra Mystic , Geier Reach Sanitarium , Jace's Archivist .

Combos:

Duskmantle Guildmage and Mindcrank . Starts up by activating the guildmage then causing either mill or life loss.

Eater of the Dead . Starts up by having the Eater for a turn or otherwise giving it haste. This is a very resilient combo because it activates for 0 so you can keep comboing on top of any non-Split Second spells or abilities. You can even eat your own graveyard to keep the milling going.

Strong Synergies

Tree of Perdition not only snipes your opponents down to a dangerous life total but also blocks anything and with an untapper can mill multiples of 40 every turn.

Things that get better with more things in the yard. Bonehoard , Consuming Aberration , Dimir Doppelganger , Eater of the Dead , Mortivore , Nighthowler , Wight of Precinct Six ,

Intruder Alarm is as broken as ever. With King Macar, the Gold-Cursed you can threaten to exile every creature that enters the battlefield.

WHEELS! Jace's Archivist , Whispering Madness keep your opponents of balance. Notion Thief makes you archenemy, and Elixir of Immortality lets you stay archenemy by refilling your library after you discard from 28 down to 7.

Budgetness:

I really really don't want to spend more than $6 per card, which was the price of Chromatic Lantern (the most expensive card in this deck) when I purchased it. PI would love to put in stuff like Glimpse the Unthinkable but it is WAY too expensive. Eater of the Dead was much cheaper when I built this deck.

Upgrades

I'm looking to add more graveyard hate that doesn't interfere with my graveyard theft. The wheels theme has had some success so I'm looking to add Windfall but probably not Dark Deal . Ideally the curve would be lowered to better make my use of wheels more efficient.
