Sorcery (1)

Casual deck based on food tokens, life gain. I don't want to use tutor cards or win with infinite combo because for me that takes the fun out of the game. Any suggestions welcome, I will be updating the list as new cards are revealed.

I'd say this deck is primarily a life gain deck with a token sub-theme. As a life gain deck, the plan is not only to gain life, but to weaponize that gain with synergistic cards. This isn't exactly a life gain deck because even when you reduce the cost of cracking foods to 1 mana with Sam, Loyal Attendant, you aren't going to crack a bunch of foods for cheap and gain a ton of life. Gaining 3 life for 1 mana isn't very strong and there are other commander decks that do lifegain better. You actually dont want to be cracking all of your food tokens the moment you get them, it actually goes against the synergies in your deck. So we need cards that created value when we created or cracked foods and when we gain life during the turn to complete the game.

Frodo, Adventurous Hobbit costs just 2 mana, and Sam, Loyal Attendant 3 mana. You need to start them both as early as possible to start your game plan so you need ramp and mana dork like Birds of Paradise, Delighted Halfling, Gilded Goose, Farseek, Many Partings, Arcane Signet, Mana Crypt or Sol Ring. You absolutely must attacks turn 3 or 4 with Frodo.

  • Turn One: Play a land and play a mana dork.

  • Turn Two: Play a land and play Frodo. or Play a land and play ramp spell

  • Turn Three: Play a land and play Sam, you make a food token at the start of the combat phase, use the extra mana to crack that food token and swing with Frodo, this triggers Frodo's ability. Or play Frodo you don't already have to.

-Turn Four: Play a land and play Sam, you make a food token at the start of the combat phase, use the extra mana to crack that food token and swing with Frodo, this triggers Frodo's ability.

What you absolutly want is mana and cast Frodo before Sam.

Life gain and tokens often go hand in hand. What you actually want to do is cracking one or two foods every turn to generate value.

Now it's time to end the game. You have token makers, a bunch of tokens on the battlefield, cards to gain life and generate value. You have multiple ways to win..
