Zabaz, the Glimmerwasp

Zabaz, the Glimmerwasp

Legendary Artifact Creature — Insect

Modular 1 (This creature enters the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter on it. When it is put into the graveyard from the battlefield, you may put its +1/+1 counters on target artifact creature.)

If a modular triggered ability would put one or more +1/+1 counters on a creature you control, that many plus one +1/+1 counters are put on it instead.

: Destroy target artifact you control.

: This gains flying until end of turn.

The issue with that plan is that Aleaha cannot recur them - as they both have 3 power and there are much better targets. Both cards have an okay floor and are powerhouses in draft but the ceiling is very low but if that's your thing I won't knock it. I'd say the best fit for them or any sort of human strategy is Winota, Joiner of Forces

Also, oddly enough there isn't many boros commanders that care about counters but here are the few that do Zabaz, the Glimmerwasp - I guess some modular sheniaghans could be fun. Keleth, Sunmane Familiar x Any red partner or any voltron build cause you wanna donk people asap.

Even though they do make it Day when they enter, these creatures aren't actually Daybound '^^

That being said, Zabaz, the Glimmerwasp is a Boros commander that can make better use that average of the +1/+1 counter of Sunrise Cavalier, although most Modular creatures aren't really cheap enough for Gavony Dawnguard to be good enough.

This list feels close, but the lack of artifact sacrifice is a little awkward. If I'm going at a slower pace I kind of want Goblin Engineer to set up emry interactions with artifact tokens, or to try and become full blown Inkwell Leviathan/Sundering Titan reanimator.

If I were to tweak the list as little as possible, I think I'd just jam in Arcbound Ravager + Zabaz, the Glimmerwasp + Power Depot and call it a day. Lands, spent shriekhorns etc becoming counters on a creature is just too good to pass up.

I've seen a few b/r artifact lists - from Slag Fiend / Atog brews, strategies that try and cheat Sundering Titan into play, and lots of random combos. Red and black have some really cool artifact-loving creatures and spells - from Wildfire to Disciple of the Vault .

If you are trying to use Embercleave you want 1 drops and go-wide. If you want engineer you want artifacts that like dying and coming back. If you want Gaduk you want to sacrifice artifact creatures and bring them back.

For this list, which wants to go to midrange and pressure life totals hard, I'd run Lightning Bolt + Galvanic Blast + Shrapnel Blast as the spells, and play a lot of 1-of creatures that make or like artifacts if I was going more casual, or grab an established value engine for artifacts if I was trying to be competitive. Having 9 points of burn in hand is a lot easier in artifact lists with red, and black does excellently at applying the pressure to force the life total that low.

Right now, MH2 has given modular a kick, so Arcbound Worker , Myr Scrapling , Sparring Construct . Zabaz, the Glimmerwasp are all still good without dipping into white. Scrapyard Recombiner is also neat. Its not the only option - there are a lot of cards that support artifacts in dealing damage or grinding out attacks - they've been printed in almost every set and they are good. Look at competitive lists sideboards to get a stronger idea of what is out there, or nab strong artifacts that rotate out of standard.

As far as newer player decks go, this is far more together than I expected. It should be perfect for casual play. The tutor package that can look for removal or threats is a solid spine for the deck.

In terms of cards to consider that are cheap and still do well, I'd look at Ayula, Queen Among Bears as a removal etc option, which plays nice with changeling effects that can take advantage of samaruai synergies.

Mangara of Corondor is a feature of classic lists, loving blink effects and sacrifice to break the symetry of his effect.

Vivien's Arkbow never found its place in competitive lists, but still puts creatures from your deck on the battlefield, which plays really nice with the existing tutor package.

1 mana legendaries will do good even if they aren't perfectly 'on theme' - Zabaz, the Glimmerwasp , Oviya Pashiri, Sage Lifecrafter are both cheap rn.

Blackblade Reforged points to legendary land synergies, but legendaries that put lands into play have had their price pushed up by commander and Scapeshift decks. For that price reason, I will reccomend against becoming a Kamahl's Druidic Vow ramp deck.

Bushido likes being blocked by a lot of creatures, making Lure effects strong, but samarai isn't well represented as a tribe. This means that it would need to fill out ranks with your Changeling Hero type cards.

Finally, the biggest piece of advice- cards aren't expensive because they are good, they are expensive because they are in short supply, and everyone needs lands. Making your manabase good is the place to invest money - there are cool, format warping, cards at $0.20, but to play them you need good lands. Look for lands as they rotate out of standard and pick them up - they'll be cheapest as there is a spike in supply, and after a few set rotations you'll have a solid set of cards to build from.

ThisIsMyAccount gotta disagree on the “too many legendary” thing. Scales wants as many copies of The Ozolith (& Hardened Scales ) that it can run, cause we want at least one of these out turn 1 so our deck can function - running 4 copies of The Ozolith is great for us as it gives us less dead draws.

I don’t think running multiple copies of Zabaz, the Glimmerwasp hurts us either, the second one just effectively adds at minimum 2 counters to the boardstate. Also remember the deck thrives off being able to sacrifice our own stuff to Throne of Geth and Arcbound Ravager .

I don’t think the deck wants Lodestone Golem in it at all either. 4 mana is steep, and against the decks this effect would usually aim to stop (storm, burn etc), its already too late. Not to mention, Hardened Scales decks should be aiming to win by the time they have 4 mana, not playing this stuff

You've got to have Lodestone Golem at least in the sideboard. It is too good in some matchups. I am going to recommend you go up to 4 copies of Urza's Saga , too.

Also, too many copies of legendary permanents. Zabaz, the Glimmerwasp and The Ozolith really aren't cards you need more than one or two of.
