Lion Sash

Artifact Creature — Equipment Cat

: Exile target card from a graveyard. If it was a permanent card, put a +1/+1 counter on this permanent.

Equipped creature gets +1/+1 for each +1/+1 counter on this.

Reconfigure (: Attach this to target creature you control; or unattach this from a creature. Reconfigure only as a sorcery. While attached, this isn't a creature.)

Have you considered more artifacts with Reconfigure? While I think all of them would work, Lion Sash and Cloudsteel Kirin should be auto includes.

Another card to consider is Paradise Mantle since its practically a mana rock.

If you find yourself with some budget space, Shadowspear is definitely worth consideration.

Also, to make it easier to activate Puresteel Paladin's Metalcraft ability(which gives your equipment creatures with reconfigure equip as well), you may want to consider artifact lands. This includes, but is not limited to, Great Furnace, Rustvale Bridge and Scene of the Crime.

This is all I have for you for now. Thank you for reading me out. I hope this helps. Happy Hunting!

  • Preordain is miles better than Serum Visions

  • yes you can trigger Lion Sash multiple times. You’d presumably always do it in the opponents end step.

  • I should reiterate as I have been this whole thread that your artifact creatures aren’t very-well suited for a control or aggro shell at-all… this is why i’d suggested a bunch of creatures that would actually help you. I know you like Ethersworn Canonist but this is a really bad home for it - trying to force it into this deck is going to make it’s performance bad, and the deck worse.

  • Haughty Djinns 3-mana cost can be a little awkward, but i’ll note Murktide Regent is two mana and survives fine. The trick is to know the matchups well enough to gauge when to ”shields down” to cast it - or wait till you have 4-5 lands so you can also Spell Pierce or Counterspell.

  • Tolarian Terror is 1 mana and wins the game on its own. You’re in no massive rush to dump it down, but tempo-control builds could often get it down by turn 3-4 no problem.

  • Touch the Spirit Realm is fine, but not great. You’re unlikely to ever channel it, but it’ll still be decent-enough.

  • Detention Sphere is decent.

  • of course opponents will be paying 2 mana to crack clues, but only if its the best thing for them to be doing fir their turn. Them gaining clues is an advantage for them.

Ahhh! Thank you so much for the recommendations!! This is what I'm talking about; getting positing feedback!

Stasis Snare is amazing! I love the art on it as well. This card is perfect!

Which one is better? Preordain or Serum Visions? I don't know in what order is better for scrying and drawing. I like the art for Preordain better.

If I'm running Ethersworn Canonist and stuff, Lion Sash would be good. I really want to play my artifact creatures, especially Ethersworn Canonist. Also, I have a newb question: would I be able to use Lion Sash's activated ability multiple times per turn?? If so, that would be sweet.

9-lives Cool, i'll keep all my card suggestions to $3-or-less per card.

Being one card-down is not worth it for only really knowing what your topdeck is. If you are using Assemble the Players you are wasting resources for almost no gain. Added to this a point which hasn't been mentioned yet - drawing a second copy of this card is absolutely disastrous, as you can't do anything useful with it.

Lawmage's Binding is worse that Oppressive Rays because 3 mana for a card that's still not removing a creature is just really bad value. Far better spells to remove the opponents creatures are Skyclave Apparition, Stasis Snare, Oblivion Ring, Fateful Absence, Declaration in Stone, Prismatic Ending, and Path to Exile

Opt, Preordain, Serum Visions, and Consider are all cheap and are overwhelmingly better than Defiant Strike.

If you're trying to be aggressive with control, your current creatures are really lacking. The current creatures you're running would fit better in a tax-like build, where the aim is to mess with your opponents tempo but ultimately just slowly chip-through damage. If you're trying to play an aggressive-control deck (like the Murktide Regent list) in , then your best bet for creatures on a budget would probably be Tolarian Terror, Delver of Secrets  Flip, Spell Queller, Haughty Djinn, and maybe Lion Sash

My vote is for Ral, Caller of Storms. Considering the choices of the first two loyalty abilities, I don't think the power level justifies a 6 mana cost. That and I honestly believe you can get more bang for your buck with Guff's second loyalty ability.

Other cards that occurred to me and may want to consider adding are Reliquary Tower, Rowan, Scholar of Sparks  Flip and Teyo, the Shieldmage. I'm not entirely sure what you can remove to make room for these, but don't forget you have a commander who can get mana dorks on the battlefield for you and can draw you cards so don't be afaid to lean into that a bit.

While I was taking a another look at your deck, I noticed you have Blind Obedience. Even though the rules changed several years ago to allow it, the cost in the extort ability may be seen by some players as a violation of the color identity rule. I had a mono-black commander deck with a few extort cards and an opponent got really salty about it before another told him of the rule change. So I took them out to avoid future conflict.

If you choose to do the same, I'd recommend Lion Sash. Not only it will give you much needed graveyard hate without affecting your graveyard, but you'll be able to attach it to Gideon of the Trials while he's a creature and it can be tutored by Tezzeret the Seeker. Yes, I know its a creature, but Calamity's Wake and Rest in Peace will devastate your graveyard as well.

I hope this helps. Thank you for reading me out. Happy Hunting!

MrHawtStuff,

You have lots of cat lords, Feline Sovereign, Kaheera, the Orphanguard, King of the Pride, etc. as well it works with self-modifiers like Loam Lion and Qasali Pridemage the new cat Sovereign Okinec Ahau can permanently +1/+1 counter your cats. Notably missing (in your maybeboard) Regal Caracal would give everyone lifelink too.

Glittering Lynx seems off, the isn't that disruptive for an opponent if it matters. I think you're trying to maximize your MV 1-drop cats, but Arcbound Mouser would give you a second Trained Caracal with upside instead. Lion Sash is also nice, but it is MV 2-drop.

The other new cat would be good: Kutzil, Malamet Exemplar, he could replace something like a vanilla Leonin Skyhunter or a mana sync like Bronzehide Lion or a really high cmc creature with low value like Jareth, Leonine Titan who probably is a win-more at MV6 that won't turn a loss into a win, really he MV7 to activate. Card in that MV slot has to be extremely impactful. Cats like Scrounging Bandar also work well with this new cat. Limiting interaction on your turn especially flashing in +3 spells (Indomitable Might) is really nice.

Leonin Relic-Warder is nice for controlling artifacts/enchantments and providing another MV2 cat.

Everybody Lives! gives another Heroic Intervention type effect.

Farseek is MV2 but I'm betting Harvest Season probably does more work at MV3. 35 lands seems like a lot for a low curve, maybe some low MV ramp like Talisman of Unity. Boseiju, Who Endures is a good forest but it's stupid expensive.

Rancor is a really nice trample/evasion enabler. Or like a Shadowspear or something which also helps out with Indestructibles blocking your cats. Pridemalkin is on a cat body, but don't like the MV3.

Mirri's Guile is okay, but a bit of a trap, way more value at MV2 with Sylvan Library

Song of the Dryads I get for locking out a commander but some instant interaction like Stroke of Midnight are usually more utility in more situations, might be a meta card though.

Eladamri's Call will bring up consistency to draw the finisher cats.

Cheers

Which matchups do you have difficulty closing out? Is your Emrakul getting Solituded away? Something like this? I'd recommend two sideboard beaters for Karn to grab. Wurmcoil seems fine. To backup your backup, I'd recommend giving Lion Sash a try. TBH, it's my second-most-grabbed-with-Karn sideboard piece, following Liquimetal. Great beater, plus exile whatever artifacts your want back from your yard for Karn to grab again.

I also used to run a one-of Kroxa; great recursive threat that bounces back after Damn/Wrath. Strong closer, but I've been wanting higher-cmc stuff to use as Palantir-bombs. Still, never a bummer seeing Kroxa get milled.

I see you're on the Leyline of Sanctity x4 sideboard plan... I did this too for a while, when Rakdos Scam seemed like it was everywhere. It only ever felt helpful v. Scam & Burn thouogh. I'm guessing you're seeing a lot of Scam in your meta?

Sweet brew!
Only concern I have is without Doran a few if the cards literally are dead draws. Oddly enough I'd suggest something like Lion Sash or Grist, the Hunger Tide janky and expensive but also Cloudsteel Kirin as ways to make the harbinger or grazer work better without doran
