tweaking

pkbrainfreeze, 11 years ago

This deck is coming along and I feel like the consistency of the mana base has improved dramatically. I still don't know how I feel about Bident of Thassa. The UU is kinda hard to get out considering I have so few blue spells, but it is really handy when it starts working. Not sure whether I should try to make it a 2-of or replace it with something.

Any suggestions are very appreciated.

Two-Headed Giant

matt4mat, 11 years ago

Played this paired with a mono-black deck in a Two-Headed Giant local. Had lots of fun, especially when my partner put Eldrazi Conscription on Tajic, Blade of the Legion. Might have to look into getting that.....

FNM/Playtesting

sirkeifer, 11 years ago

Extremely consistent deck, that most decks can't stand up to. Has been played as shown during 5 FNM's. 2nd place, 4th place, 2nd place, 3rd place, and this last week 1st place. Always run's well, and any extra suggestions are welcome! Thanks for looking!

Land?

koiraeve, 11 years ago

This deck hardly requires it. I've kept no land hands and still won.

Tested at a Tuesday Standard Tourney, went 2-2. Definitely adding 2 more Kalonian Hydra, possibly 3. Savageborn Hydra was surprisingly effective, swinging lethal for both wins. The Boon Satyr/Ghor-Clan Rampager work well with it. Had 7 mana, Boon-Satyred end of their turn, then again on mine with Ghor-Clan, swung for 36.

Ogre Battledriver will need to come out, they don't help, just act as a filler/defender. Might pull them for Kalonian Tusker for now.

Considering Garruk, Caller of Beasts in place of where the Xenagos would have gone. Never used him, but watching similar decks on Tuesday convinced me.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

A cheap deck to build, and a fun one to play. Start off early with Dissolves and Lightning Strikes, then end it with Young Pyromancer and Spellheart Chimera. I recommend playing it casually though, because It has a hard time with $10 Removal Spells. -May the Force be with you!

Played some proxies of remaining cards I need and got in 2 games, and my mana base, well was crap. ) I will side board it though.

After seeing Nekusar, the Mindrazer, I decided to add red to give me more ways to affect my opponents' card drawing ability. Still have work to do though.

Thassa, God of the Sea

I moved the Elixir of Immortality to the sideboard in exchange for Thassa, God of the Sea to see how it test plays

Board Wipe

yad, 11 years ago

So what should have been obvious to me right from the start took a couple of games to sink in. This deck is really bad off when hit with a board wipe (Wrath of God; Supreme Verdict; etc). The Mana Leak is simply not reliable enough to prevent that. I was thinking of putting in a few Rootborn Defenses or something similar.

3RD Place

kaptainanderson, 11 years ago

I went third at the local FNM in maitland, FL Only lost one game to the person who was 5-0 with mono black devotion. Devour Flesh my cards early before i could beef them up. Also Desecration Demon is a pest so now I'm running 2 Plummet side just for him along with the charms.

Update

pwn_alex, 11 years ago

Took out black devotion, after adding in needed mana ramp the amount of black devotion I have is significantly lower, so abhorrent overlord/gray merchant are now gone. Trying to add in some one/two drops to fill space between turns 4-6.

Orthineous, 11 years ago

Took out a Doom Blade to add a Breaking to support the mill strategy and took out an opportunity from the sideboard and added a ratchet bomb to help deal with aggro decks.

Use for Deadeye Navigator

Samuel_The_Seer, 11 years ago

Though some places have banned Deadeye Navigator because they fear his awesome power, I've included him because of the many ETB Effects I can abuse in these colors.

Sun Titan = Recursion

Frost Titan = Detaining

Council of the Absolute = Naming a card that could cause me a problem, like if my opponent tutors and has to reveal the card.

Lavinia of the Tenth = Permanent Detain anyone?

Update for more threat

-3x Master Biomancer +3x Reverent Hunter

I tested this a little last night and really liked it. I felt like the Biomancer was slowing me down. By the time I could get him out, I could also get polukranos or Kalonian Hydra. No brainer there, so he became kinda useless.

See my description above for the hunter. Having a 40+ deathtouch/trample just makes me chuckle. Also a good early target for those removal spells.
