Added Sideboard, or at least part of one. Any suggestions for it would be very helpful.

This deck is running SOOOOOOO smoothly - still undefeated! FNM: 4 rounds of Swiss
Round 1: Izzet Pauper - went 2-0, only took 5 minutes to finish, but, it wasn't really a fair match
Round 2: Rakdos Mid-range - went 2-0. Got hit with a Master of Cruelties in game 1 but, no burn spell followed. We had 2 Underworld Connections and a Whip of Erebos on the field and top-decked a Gray Merchant, so we recovered & proceeded to win. Game 2 was much quicker
Round 3: White Weenies - 2-0 he ran 16 1-drop spells, but only 4 were creatures...so, I had more than enough removal to survive early game, then Nightveil Specter took over the game
Round 4: BUG - Went 2-1. Game 1 was a quick sweep, Game 2 was super grindy, until Golgari Charm blew up my Whip...his Desecration Demon proceeded to destroy me. Game 3 was close, but my Nightveil Specter hit 2 of his Hero's Downfall in a row, which secured the match for me!
Sunday, Win-A-Box Tournament 4 Rounds of Swiss
Round 1: BUG 2-1 Deathrite Shaman killed me in Game 1, exiled my Gray Merchant before I could "Whip it Back". Games 2 & 3, he didn't have the necessary removal spells, and Nightveil Specter took over, with 2 Underworld Connections on the field, my devotion skyrocketed
Round 2: Budget Boros - 2-0. It was a blow-out. Nightveil hit all his lands, and Desecration Demon beat him down
Round 3: Naya Midrange - 2-0 Same thing as the Boros Deck really, except he added Elvish Mystic
Round 4: White Weenies - 2-0 Got paired down for some reason. In game one he had a 9/9 Fiend Slayer Paladin, and wouldn't swing with it? He just let my devotion pile up until Gray Merchant hit for 22. LOLZ! Game 2 was pretty much the same thing, except he got a few life linkers out early...I promptly dropped Erebos, God of the Dead followed by his whip, and a Desecration Demon and said "Come at me bro"...it ended quickly after that

Due to lack of money had to change the deck a bit. Went to FNM today. 3 rounds, went 2:0, 0:2, 0:2. 1.B/U Mill, he played 2 x Nightveil Specter, swinged few times, exiled some of my cards, but I rushed with Legion Loyalist Adding more and more soldiers with Akroan Crusader and played few other creatures. Finished Match on 12 life.
2.B/U/W Esper deck. Had some problems with lands, got destroyed by Ghost Council of Orzhova, AEtherling and Jace, Architect of Thought.
3.G/B Golgari deck, conceded the first match due to terrible draw - had only white lands and almost only red cards on hand, I mulliganed 2 times. In second game I couldn't break through and lost my creatures to Putrefy and other removal spells.
Future plans - spend a little more money on the deck, put in some removal and maybe add Cavalry Pegasus for more evasion.

Went up against Gruul Control 2-0 First Game -- I got out 2 fiendslayers + Imposing sovereign and I went too fast for his answers Second Game - Was slow at first because all I had was a Soldier of the panth and a boros elite, but then got out Heliod and swung each round and he never got answers

Realizing Skullcrack plays really well in my scheme to trump Sphinx's Revelation and increase aggro.
Really like the Legion's Initiative angle. But I also love Kragma Warcaller and want to stick with a red dominant splashed with black scheme.
Borzhakdos may be very promising in the future. I could switch to more Boros minos but by then it become a different deck.
Love all the input so far. Thank you! Please check back again as I continue to tweak the deck.
Can't wait for Mogis!

dealing with Agro
gmontstudent85, 11 years ago
I played 3 matches with this deck in a tournament. Went 1-2 in the first round against mono red agro, 1-2 against red/black/white, and 2-1 against mono green. Round one against mono red: First game was a loss. I was unable to have more than 3 mana on the field which made it really hard to get creatures my opponent couldn't get rid of. Second round I won. Lotleth and Reaper of the wild made it impossible for him to hit me hard enough. Once I got the Whip out, he couldn't do anything. Third round was just not very winnable. Lost turn 4 to magious. Second game against red/black/white Round one I lost by just a hair. Damn Blood Baron is brutal. Round 2, I won. He couldn't remove my Colossus and I had my whip out. Fairly easy victory. Third round I could not draw any of my 7 removal spells to get rid of his desecration Demon. Unfortunate loss. Final game against mono green: I felt bad for the Guy I was playing. He was pretty new to the ggame.the only loss was due to being mana screwed. The 2 main things that I'm having trouble with are Blood Baron of Vizkopa and agro. Any suggestions to help would be appreciated.comment clean up

debating about mainboarding some counters in place of aetherize, to combat all the devotion decks running around. namely MBD and MRD
Gide-out
schaeff, 11 years ago
I dropped my two copies of Gideon, Champion of Justice, and I added 1 more Supreme Verdict (as was suggested below) and another Duress. Gideon wasn't really helping me stabilize so I dropped him. Taking this to a big FNM in San Diego tonight see how it goes!

Thank you so much for being my first commentator!
Yes I like Anger of the Gods in this deck to clear out AND exile my enemy's weak creatures while leaving some of my own pumped up minos intact, but also for it's potential to trigger 3 damage to my opponent with Boros Reckoner's damage kick-back. The way this deck runs, said minotaur wizard is often a 4/4 or 5/5 from Rageblood Shaman and/or Door of Destinies and will survive to boot. Mana wise, it's great bang for my buck in a dominantly red deck. I wasn't very confident about it before, but now at your suggestion I will surely add in my second copy to main board.
Madcap Skills is another card I love. You are so right about buffing that Deathbellow Raider for a turn three 5 damage swing that most likely will not be blocked. Makes a little 2/3 two-drop him a target that needs to be taken seriously and dealt with immediately, especially because of the one-black-two-colorless regeneration ability.
Portent of Betrayal, Cutthroat Maneuver, Purphoros were all experiments, so those come out with no love lost.
I definitely am going to hang on to my Slaughter Games, though i will move it to side board. Because not seeing Jace's face = priceless. Just on the chance that I can cast it successfully, it's great to get rid of my opponents best cards for a game. Also still gonna hang on to my one copy of Rakdos's Return on my sideboard. Just a great card; win condition late game.
Am I crazy for liking Wild Guess? I love the idea of drawing cards with red. Can save you from a dead hand. I still want to keep two of these handy for now. Side board.
Whip of Erebos : Perfect. Just one copy. I likey! Main board.
And I'm already there with the Magma Jets and Lightening Strikes. I concur that they are good options for increasing aggro. And two Read the Bones it is. Main board.
Thanks again!

A little removal

Removed the realmwright/Cabal Coffers as I way too often drew one without the other; added a few more of the combo pieces I was waiting to have delivered.

So added the Electricery and dropped spark jolts for more Mogris. I also added Act of Treason to my main board because of reasons like Obzedat. But this way I have more options on how to play my deck. Either keep the pressure up with lots of creatures. Or I can do the young pyromancer/ purphoros combo with lots of direct burn damage and getting my tokens and upon their entering the battle field the God does 2 damage to them. I won a game that way, had him and 4 Young Pyros out cast 3 shocks at them for 9 damage 4 tokens come into play the gods ability does another 24 damage just from the 12 tokens entering the battlefield. Good Game!

New additions to the family.

Bought a commander deck and then tore it apart for the cards to upgrade Aurelia.
Added Mirror Entity in replace of my thundermaw, no sure how it will do over the coming days but it will be a neat trick. I also replaced Boros Keyrune for Darksteel Mutation, a good trade I am thinking. I have a lot of ramp in the deck so one artifact for a potential commander nerfer is a better choice.
I also procured a Grand Abolisher. Switched out my Ash Zealot for it. It's a trade I made in trepidation because I indeed like the Zealot, but Abolisher is so much better for this deck. I have been fighting control decks now in my play group and I hate it when Aurelia gets a "nope" from my blue colleagues.
My next acquisition will be Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite to replace something. That card is so good and wrecks other decks so hard it's unfair... almost.
