Our Chefs have failed

St4my, 11 years ago

During some playtesting, our chefs quickly realized that even though the delicacies were as amazing as always when served, that they were taking way too long.

We are also considering changing some creature slots, allowing for a stronger, more solid early game. Keeping the Jund Gourmet Club sacrifice mechanics is a must, hence these creatures will need to be the security while the food is served. Removal may also need an improvement.

There were also some complaints about how effective Blood Moon, proved to be. Surprising, I know ;D

Further improvements to speed, synergy are to be expect. A land rework might be required, maybe with some ZEN lands that weren't included at first due to this deck not using Deathrite Shaman

Finally, a new costumer is to be expected. Greater Gargadon as proved to be worthy of joining the Jund Gourmet Club, even though his bad habit of ordering food to eat from the comfort of his exile is not so classy, nobody can disagree that his exquisite taste in lands shall be a great addition.

I will post more updates revolving around the analysis of the upcoming changes and future plans.

Keep it classy

I'm going to test out adding 2x Gatecreeper Vine and 1x Diabolic Tutor while dropping 1 land, 1x AEtherize and 1x Bramblecrush. Hoping to get some good playtesting in before next FNM.

The thinking is the gatecreeper vines can help potentially end the game quicker if I can recast them late, and ramp early while getting out a land of my choice if I open with one. Putting more than that feels like it gimps my ability to fog, since it doesn't prevent much damage.

Diabolic tutor over bramblecrush seems like a solid play because rarely ever do I need a bramblecrush the turn a threat lands. I just need one eventually. In contrast, if there's a more useful card, in the interim I can tutor for it and play that card instead. Given the number of 1-of's that I have, this seems like a safer bet.

Dropping the Aetherize is more because I don't want it to be known that I have any at all. Once I cast one in either game, my opponent attacks differently than if he is unaware, making any second Aetherize almost useless. edit: I've decided to go with a Blustersquall over AEtherize because it synergizes better with the deck. If Aetherize ever gets milled, it's not useful to bring back with Treasured Find because my opponent already knows about it, and once I use it in any game, I have to board it out the next.

I also decided to drop to singles of my off-gates and go up to playsets of my main gates. Against mill, my G1 is almost certainly a loss anyway, and against any non-mill that destroys one of my gates, I can bring it back with a Treasured Find.

=====

Thanks to Geoffrey1's idea, I'm going to try boarding 2x Spellheart Chimera for game 2's as an alternate wincon. The idea is that once players board out most/all of their removal, the card becomes nearly unstoppable as an evasive trample. I'm dropping Pithing Needle and 1x Negate for this. The pithing needle is mostly worthless in this deck I've come to realize, as it's easier to just kill whatever is slowly griefing me, and so an extra removal would be superior. I'm not sure I like losing the negate, but since most of my negates are to counter mill-type spells or planeswalkers anyway, which would take a few turns to develop, it seems both would only enhance the utility of the chimera.

In a similar vein, I'm almost going to substitute back in 2x Blind Obedience for 2x Renounce the Guilds. I originally subbed this out because I felt like the tapped feature only really helped versus hasted aggro decks--this is not the case at all. vs Obzedat, Ghost Council, it can be quite nice, since most players featuring this won't have many other creatures on their board, having him enter but be unable to tap COMBINED with my ability to extort means that I can (at minimum) half his damage dealt via entering battefield, and I can get a free fog if he's the only attacker out, which he often is. Since my primary reason for RtG was dealing with Obzedat and Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver, it seems like a good idea, now that the spellheart will counteract ashiok.

STILL undefeated. We struggle against Mono-Black devotion, since Grey Merchant hits hard - we usually lose game 1, but the sideboard really helps!

revisions

ranzino, 11 years ago

After playing at a local tourney, I have decided to remove 1 legion loyalist and replaced it with a Rakdos Guildgate. I realized rather quickly that I rarely saw him in any games and can't say he did much for me besides just be an attacker that got blocked. The first strike and trample is cool but usually there isnt enough to even trample over. One thing I did notice was suffering from not having enough mana to cast multiple creatures on turn. I kept telling myself if only I had X land I would be able to cast X card. Now, I have more mana for extra reliablilty which I feel works out in the end too if i sideboard more 4 mc cards.

Newly Standard

satchattack, 11 years ago

Made some slight changes to the deck, it is still capable of making a turn 3 win, but through all my play testing and some sanctioned games it averages more turn 4 win.

To start things off I had to take out quite a few cards; -4 Alpha Authority, -4 Arbor Elf, -3 Brushstrider, -4 Forced Adaptation, -2 Phytoburst, -4 Rancor, -3 Giant Growth.

Added: +4 Gruul Charm, +3Titan's Strength, +2 Satry Rambler, +4 Elvish Mystic, +4 Slaughterhorn, +3 Ghor-Clan Rampager, +4 Rubblebelt Raiders.

Cuts

Ghost7, 11 years ago

Removed:

Damnation because I don't have one and it's expensive.

Dread Cacodemon because it's too black intensive.

Blinding Light because it's a sorcery.

I need to remove more because it has too many cards.

Ajani is Called Upon

Rocknj06, 11 years ago

While the deck runs just fine without him, I'm putting Ajani, Caller of the Pride back in the deck, swapping out the lone Soldier of the Pantheon and a Bow of Nylea.

Let's face it, the soldier is amazing. I just don't have more than one of him.

Two bow's are enough. I loved having that third in there, but Ajani will better serve the deck.

After a few playtest done by Araganor and Katarkind (Great people check out some of there decks if you haven't already.)

I decided to take Araganor's advice.

The main add here is Hammer of Purphoros because of the low cost of all of your spell you will not be using a lot of your lands by about mid game, with this on the field you can turn your lands into bodies now. The greatest thing about this is if you happen to top deck a land with this on the field it won't be as bad being able to add a 3/3 body to the field.

I also took tothemax99's advice and added Skullcrack to my sidedeck.

This is going to help a lot against a deck that might run Sphinx's Revelation, Debt to the Deathless, or Corrupt.
