Night of Shirei's Betrayal

This is my take on a Shirei, Shizo's Caretaker EDH deck. Shirei's ability works much like my Liliana, Heretical Healer   EDH deck where I try to race to her emblem. So this deck eliminates the discarding she would do that pissed off my friends and replaces it with a more reliable, less powerful, removable Liliana, Defiant Necromancer   emblem that comes on creature body.

With the limitation of Shirei's ability being it can only bring back 1 power creatures I had to do some brewing. You can build this deck to have all 1 power creatures but most effects aren't powerful enough compared to a Gray Merchant of Asphodel or Priest of the Blood Rite coming down on everyone's end step. So to get this to work I added plenty of cards to drain their power. These cards can also be a sacrifice outlet or even enemy creature removal, Fume Spitter is MVP here.

The win conditions of this deck is primarily trying to slap down a Gray Merchant of Asphodel or Priest of the Blood Rite on every end step. Gonti, Lord of Luxury can potentially win us the game using their cards. Otherwise the Blood Artist effects we have can pull us to victory.

Once people see what is happening our commander becomes the main threat to the board, so protecting him is key. Mana ramp to recast our commander, use card draw or an Increasing Ambition to find our protection. Our early game is slow, opening hands with 3-5 lands are almost always worth keeping especially if it comes with card draw or mana ramp.

Mid to late game is when things begin to spiral out of control for our opponents as some of our stax cards can shut down a whole strategy as well as helping us stay ahead. Grave Pact with the help of something as small as Death Cultist will often force a concede before you even scratch the surface of Shirei's shenanigans. Attacking with creatures is not something this deck does unless your Priest of the Blood Rite amasses an army of demons for you.

I've been having a lot of fun with this deck, the addition of -1/-1 capabilities feels really great when you get to remove something like a Purphoros, God of the Forge. Generally I feel like I can do something on each of my turns. This deck plays fairly different than other attrition style strategies I've tried.

Would love to hear any ideas on other cards that could be fun to try putting in this deck!! :D
